Flat Tow Setup For 2025 Ram 1500 Being Towed by Tiffin Motorhome With Air Brakes

Updated 05/28/2025 | Published 10/30/2024

Question:

I’m looking for a reliable flat tow setup. I have a 2015 Tiffin Phaeton 40ah with air brakes. Dinghy is a 2025 ram 1500. 4x4 I’m only seeing that the demco baseplate is showing compatibility with 2025 ram. Please advise. Looking for baseplate and tow bars, braking system, lighting connections.

Hey Cody,

We can get your 2025 Ram 1500 set up with a complete flat tow setup, and there are options for you regarding the baseplate, from both Demco and Blue Ox. Keep in mind this depends on the model of your '25 Ram 1500:

- Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519341 (Does not fit Rebel or TRX models)

- Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BLU49HR (Does not fit RHO models)

Both are high-quality and will serve your Ram well, with the difference being the Blue Ox has a straight bar while the Demco is two different pieces. That makes the install of the Demco a bit easier, so you may want to consider that if you're doing the install yourself. The nice thing is, both are compatible with a Blue Ox tow bar so you won't have to get any type of adapters or anything no matter which baseplate you go with. I'll go ahead and list out the rest of the parts needed for you:

- Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar # BX7420

- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

- Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes # SM99243

The Avail tow bar is great because it has a robust 10,000 lb capacity for strength, is easy to use with quick-disconnect levers, and has a long 52" reach which is going to allow your Ram to track behind your Tiffin motorhome better than other tow bars. As for the diode wiring kit, it will prevent any type of electrical feedback to keep your truck's electrical system safe.

The Air Force One braking system is easily the best because it gives your Ram brakes which are proportional to that of your Tiffin. So when you hit the brakes on your motorhome, your truck is going to get the same amount of braking power, resulting in much smoother braking than other systems.

Can you tell me a little more about why you would pick the blue ox avail over other options like the roadmaster nighthawk. What one would be most reliable. Also, do i need any type of kit to keep my ram battery charged or will the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 do that .

@CodyA The Nighthawk is great, but isn't compatible unless you have adapters, which is why I didn't mention it. But you can certainly use it if you like, you'd just need the Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # RM-677. Either of those would be great, and as for the battery charge, the wiring kit won't do that but if you want to keep it charged use the Towed Vehicle Battery Charge Line Kit for Demco Air Force One and Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking Systems # DM66VR.

@Kyle,justN Sure thing! Here are the parts I recommend for flat towing your 2025 Ram 1500 4x4 limited: - Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # DM9519341 - etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 10,500 lbs # e94ZR - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267 - Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251 - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 That will cover all the main components. You need to keep the tow bar level so a drop hitch like part # BLU28XR may be needed if the base plate arms are more than 3" off from the hitch on your RV. I also suggest getting a cover # e76FV and lock # e98881 for your tow bar. Take a look at the videos I linked for you below. I am happy to answer any other questions you may have in regards to flat towing. I understand the first time can be a bit overwhelming. I am here for you.
