Easiest to Use Flat Tow Setup for 2024 Chevy Trax

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 06/26/2025

Question:

I am trying to figure out what all I will need to flat tow my 2024 Chevrolet Trax RS behind my Tiffin Allegro 36LA motorhome. I need to find the easiest way to hook up and tow this car in case my wife needs to do this in an emergency. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Hey Michael, I think the Blue Ox tow bar/base plate kits are the easiest to use so for your 2024 Chevy Trax I would go with the part # BLU24UR and the tow bar part # BX7420.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

Then for braking the easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Hey Michael, did you have a chance to set up the Blue Ox Patriot braking system for your Chevy Trax? I'm curious to know how it worked for you, as it could really help others looking for a similar solution.

@JamesonC I have just gotten the the unit all set up and have not had a chance to hook it up to the motorhome and try it yet. My son in law installed the baseplate, battery disconnect, and the braking system on our 2024 Trax. His comments were about the detailed video and instructions. Your thoughts on the parts to buy were all great except for the diodekit for the lights. The Trax has a different power supply and requires a smart diode, which he got from e-trailer. Will let you know how everything works in a month if not sooner.

@MichaelB My apologies! I should have recommended the part # RM26FR instead.
