Features to know about

Climbing Steep or Icy Roads with Confidence: Diamond Pattern Delivers Steady Grip

When you’re facing slick hills or icy driveways, these Konig tire chains keep your tires digging in. The diamond pattern keeps constant contact with the road so you don’t lose traction between links. Each square link bites into snow and light ice, while the traction plates help break through buildup for a confident climb and controlled descent even on the worst winter mornings.

Get Back on the Road Fast: Self-Tensioning System Tightens as You Drive

Nobody wants to fight with chains in freezing weather. These chains automatically tighten and center themselves as the wheels turn, so you only have to install them once and you’re ready to roll. There’s no need to stop and retighten after a few miles. Plastic-coated hooks keep your hands from freezing during setup and you’ll be back inside the warm cab in minutes.

Step one of installing Konig tire chains showing chains laid flat on the ground to remove tangles.

Step two of installing Konig tire chains showing connection of blue cable ends behind the tire.

Step three of installing Konig tire chains showing connection of red hook to matching red link at front of tire.

Step four of installing Konig tire chains showing tensioning chain fed through clip and secured to red hook.

Final installation step of Konig tire chains showing hook stretched across tire before self-tensioning.

Smooth, Reliable Ride in Winter Conditions: Square Links and Lightweight Build

Traditional chains can make a rough ride, but these square links balance grip and comfort. The smaller link size means less vibration and a smoother drive while still giving firm traction on hard-packed snow. Their lightweight design also reduces strain on the tires and suspension, making them ideal for everyday winter travel.

Built to Last Through Harsh Winters: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Construction

These chains are made from high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel that resists corrosion and wear. The hard outer surface stands up to snow, salt, and grit, while nylon bumpers and a powder-coated side chain protect your rims from scratches. With a 5-year warranty and a durable nylon storage bag, they’re ready for many seasons of mountain or highway use.

Made for Tight Clearances: SAE Class S Compatible Design

If your vehicle has limited wheel-well space, these chains meet SAE Class S standards. They only need 1/2" of internal clearance, so you get solid winter traction without risking damage to nearby components. It’s the right mix of low-profile fit, proven grip, and everyday dependability.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Easy to install. Great email support from etrailer giving updates on status.

by:

Had these chains for my last vehicle but when I purchased a new car needed to get a larger size chain. Easy to put on and take off. Practiced a few times before I ventured out and felt confident this 66 y.o. Grandma could handle them myself.

by:

I got these for my 2016 Highlander for travel around Portland in the winter. Last winter wasn't very icy, so I only needed them twice. They were surprisingly difficult to get on... it's almost like they're a tiny bit too small. On the plus side, I don't think that any of them broke. I have a smaller pair of these for my Leaf and they fit great, so I think that it's specific to this model.

by:

Great , easy to navigate website. As well, follow up emails re: order and delivery were helpful and expedient and package delivered on time as promised. Cannot review the product - hoping I don't actually need to use the snow chains on my trip out west.

by:

Great product. Konig tire chains fit great. Easy install.Just what I needed.

by:

Haven't had to put these chains on in the snow yet....but I put them on in the garage today just to test out how easy they are to install. Less than 2 minutes to put one on a tire. Looking forward to trying them on the way up to the mountain now.

by:

Konig/Thule tire chains are the best - easy on/easy off and great traction for our 2015 Lexus RX350. Much better than cables.

by:

i bought these chains because I have used them before on my previous car, and they work extremely well on hilly, snowy, and icy roads. They are also very fast and easy to install and remove, although it’s a good idea to fit them before you need them, and note if the adjustment links must be used on your tires. They fit perfectly on mine first try. The self-tensioning feature has also been improved since I bought my last set.

by:

Hi, My recent purchase of Konig XG 12 Pro snow chains is for a my new VW Atlas I bought in March. I have purchased from etrailer several times in the past and have always had excellent results. I also much appreciate the go to video reviews and tutorials. In this instance they helped with my decision greatly. Customer service has always been top notch! I am looking forward to trying out my new chains.

by:

My driveway is insane to get up in the winter and I have to use chains for it.
I have used a lot of chains and these are the most convenient that I have found to put on and take off with the exception of ones that drape over and have the little cable under tension that gets pulled under. Those are easier but they are far less durable and have more potential points of failure in my estimation. These are the chains I would recommend for both traction and ease of use.

by:

Excellent product and easy to use. Put these on my 2018 Honda Odyssey and fit perfectly. Drove through the snowy mountain roads for a trip to Big Bear Feb 2019 with no problems. Felt like excellent traction. I would recommend practicing putting them on at home in dry conditions so it is easier and faster when you have to put them on during cold snowy conditions.

by:

I purchase the chains for when I go to Colorado. Driving thru Wyoming they required chains when going over some of the mountains passes. I like the how easy they are to put on and take off.

Worked pretty good. Easy on and off. No other issues.

I can only write about the ordering/delivery since the product (Thule snow tire chains) are a Christmas gift and the package won't be opened until then.

So far I am very favorably impressed with your website and the telephone service. Also, the "no shipping cost" deal. Thanks

by:

Tried putting this on the MDX and it’s very easy to install. Happy with the purchase.

by:

I bought these chains after a recent trip to the mountains and a bad experience with tire cables. Unlike the cables, these chains fit the tires on my 2018 VW Atlas (245/60R18) perfectly, without interference with the front strut. I've only dry mounted these, and tested them very briefly on dry roads, but if they continue to perform as I expect they will, they will be well worth the slight premium over the previous cables I had been carrying -- better fit, much better traction, and quieter to run. BTW, Mariah at etrailer was exceptional to work with when I called explaining what I was looking for -- highly recommend.

by:

I've used this brand of tire chains for several years. They are the best ever!

We didnt have enough snow to need them this year but in previous years, they have been the easiest install Ive ever encountered. I put them on, drove one mile to a clear main road - took them off, drove to town, returned to my turn-off and re-installed them for the mile drive back to my house. I would NEVER do that with any other chains!

by:

This is the second pair of these Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains that I have purchased. Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains are simply the easiest chains I have ever put on. Growing up in the 60's, where every winter chains where needed, it was doable but nothing like the ease in which Konig chains are installed. Tx

by:

I had previously purchased chains from another company. They said they were “easy on and easy off”. I spent a couple of weeks trying to get them on, and had a couple of strong men try to help me without success, before I returned them. I was skeptical when I ordered these, but THE KONIG CHAINS ARE GREAT!! It took me less than 10 minutes to put on each chain - and I’m a 68 year old grandmother. The videos showing how to put them on were wonderful. I didn’t have to read the instructions. The chains fit perfectly. I have a half mile gravel driveway that has become very icy the last couple of winters. Even 4WD vehicles with studded tires have trouble climbing it. With these chains on, my old 4WD Toyota Tundra made it with ease - and the ice is thick. I am very pleased. I plan to order more for my other two vehicles.

by:

Product is quality made with good instructions and nice and right sized rigid storage case. Suggest one “dry run install” in garage or driveway a couple of times so the first time your putting them on IS NOT on the side of the road in a snow storm. Overall pleased with the Snow Tire Chains and delighted, as usual, with etrailer’s Customer Service. I would buy these Tire Chains again.

by:

The chains fit perfectly and an easy install. Have not used them as of yet as the snowfall had ceased before we left on our trip.

by:

Easy to install with sturdy parts. Glad I spent just a little more for the quality.

by:

I live in Southern California so the need for chains is only when we want to go into the mountains. I have over the last 20+ years owned 3 different sets of chains. I decided to splurge on buying these because they looked so easy to install. I only practiced putting them on one time before heading into the mountains with my family. Chains were required and in less than ideal conditions (wind blowing, wet snow and temperature around freezing and being on the side of the road, it took me about 5 minutes per tire to install them. If I practiced putting them on three or four times, I am confident I could cut this time down in half. I know these are expensive compared to other manufacturer's products, but am I happy I bought these chains. They are super easy to install and uninstall. I used to dread having to put on chains, now it is no big deal and I will not hesitate to do it again. My vehicle is a 2018 Toyota Highlander.

by:

Looks like a good fit for my BMW X3 xDrive 2019 245/50/19 run flat tires. Just put one of them on the wheel to make sure no surprise when I really need to use them. I can’t provide a snow drive feedback as of now

by:

Previously my only experience with chains was using cable chains on front wheel drive cars, where turning the wheels was necessary to ensure they had a good fit.

I bought these chains for my 2023 Kia EV6 with stock 235/55/19 tires. The instruction manual for the car says to put chains on the rear wheels and I was worried that getting chains on the rear wheels would be difficult. Despite never having used this style of chains before I was easily able to test-fit both chains with 15 minutes, and the chains fit very snuggly and didn't move when I move the car a cars length. Getting the inner loop positioned right is something that took a couple tries to get right, and I'm sure there might be a bit more room for improvement :)

I was slightly concerned about the chains damaging the rims or other parts of the car, but with the included spacers (not applied in the picture) I think this won't be a problem.

I'm taking the car up to the snow this weekend and if I use the chains I'll provide an update.

etrailer did a great job clearly communicating to me when my chains would arrive with no fuss.

by:

I love these chains, and etrailer is the best! As a 69 yr old retired grandma, I work part-time at a ski resort. A few weeks ago, we were expecting 8-10 inches of snow/ice and I was scheduled to work. So, I put these idiot-proof, color-coded, self-adjusting chains on my Highlander front low profile tires and waited for weather. See photo. I worked my full shift, came out to ice/snow in dark, and drove safely home. Oh, and the carrying case comes with a folded plastic sheet, but with my old knees I added a foam pad!

  • Can Non Class-S Snow Tire Chains Be Used on a 2018 BMW X3
I do have an option for you but I can't recommend using non-class s snow tire chains on a 2018 BMW X3 as the manual specifies that only fine link chains can be used. • Can Tire Chains be Used with a 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime With 235/55/R19 Tires
Hey Youngwoo, I checked the owner's manual and it looks like the 235 55 R19 tires your 2024 Toyota Rav4 Prime has is not meant to be used with tire chains.
