Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panel. You will have to remove the floor covering, rear cargo area cover, and scuff panel to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.
Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Another awesome purchase, very easy to setup I was surprised. When I read I had to run a wire from the battery I almost stopped but the video online showed how easy it was and I'm glad I did it. Such a clean install, no tape, no wires hanging out, hides in the spare tire well when not using, perfect!
Hitch and wiring kit were perfect. The box they were shipped in was terrible. The hitch had busted throuhh the cardboard and there were several places where paint was knocked off. I'd suggest shipping these hitches in sturdier packaging.
While this is relatively complicated to install, the challenge was more due to Toyota. I installed wiring for a 2016 Subaru Forester 2 years ago that was relatively simple, one plug provided and in place by Subaru, a ground and mount the little black box all on just one side. With Toyota, you need to unplug and replug each side (4 connections instead of one, and 4 unconnects) versus a single plug in. You need to remove both side panels and the rear threshold. All that said, the instructional video from etrailer made it a lot easier. I guess it wasn’t as difficult as much as it was tedious with a lot of steps. For five stars they may have considered the cap connectors, which to me are much easier to use for a DIYer. The butt connectors didn’t work for me.

Thanks for sharing your install experience with us, Tom. I can completely understand not enjoying the install process on your 2024 RAV4 when the last time you installed a harness it was one and done. However, now that it's installed, what are you planning on towing?
This was a perfect fit for my 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE with Premium package that has the kick open hatch. You will have to take the exhaust pipes and muffler off the three rubber hangers. Don't forget to support the muffler so it doesn't hang to low and break something. The bolt on the rear passenger side is a bear. Have someone there to wiggle the hitch around or lining the bolt up to the hole is murder. I would use one of the bolts you removed from the tie down bracket for this hole because those bolts are shorter. That one bolt took 30 minutes to start threading.
The kick plate still works after installation...big plus!

Still great! I use the hitch several times a week and its still going strong!
The trailer connector works great. No issues with installation or usage. Highly recommend this product to others.

The trailer connector setup is still working as it should. No issues to-date.
Works great, did a 2000 mile road trip this summer and no issues with trailer lights. It took a little bit of time to run the wires for the install but it has worked flawlessly since installed. Only recommendation I’d make is it would be awesome if it’s possible to make the harness plug and play for the RAV4 but that may be impossible with the available rav4 factory wiring?

Hi Joseph, this is considered a plug and play. Some vehicles can't handle the additional amperage draw of trailer lights, so the wiring harness requires a power wire to the battery. The black wire with the converter is required in order to protect your vehicle wiring. But that sound like quite the road trip! What was your favorite part?
I highly recommend doing business with eTrailer. Great products and wonderful service. They also share how-to videos which made the installation very easy.

The product is excellent. Works perfectly and fits just like factory. I recommend it completely.
The installation was a bit more involved than the eTrailer video suggests - on the 2024 RAV4 Prime, you have to remove the plastic molding that holds the jack tools and the jack in order to bend the side molding far enough away from the vehicle so that you gain enough room to install the wiring. But the harness itself is quite elegant, so kudos on this piece!
No completely in yet. Both sides are plugged in and ground and power with fuse are in. Everything is straight forward and the pictures assist with this installation.

It is still on the vehicle and is working as advertised
I took the back inside of the Rav4 loose and followed the good directions. The battery on the Prime and Hybrid is on the left back of the vehicle and that makes it easy to connect power.

Wonderful
There was an issue with the fitting of my trailer hitch. I was able to return the hitch and wiring harness without any issues.
Thanks
Customer service at Etrailer is the best customer service i have ever had with any company. The tutorial videos for the harness installation is invaluable.

Thanks so much John! I'm so glad our install videos are so valuable to you! Whenever you're ready for your next project, keep us in mind :)
I really love this wiring harness; it provides peace of mind during installation. The step-by-step instructions are clear and detailed.
Installation of trailer hitch was easy with two persons and fitment was precise. Wiring of T-connector was simple plug-in and done.
The installation was not simple but the directions were excellent. Harness works flawlessly with our camper trailer

Way to get the job done Dan! Any upcoming adventures planned?
Wiring harness arrived safely. Will have it professionally installed along with the OEM fog lights I bought elsewhere.
The hitch itself is great, no issues. etrailer is well aware how they ship the hitches is a problem, little to no padding around the corners. EVERY single one is damaged upon delivery, mine included. This is the reason for the 4 stars.
It's a nice product and not too difficult to install. It was a bit heavy being solo, but I could get it installed. The instructions left off a tow hook that needed to come off. I found this out after getting it partially installed.
The wiring harness required a little more of the interior trim to come out and removing the spare tire... no big deal.
The hitch does sit close to the body modeling. I want to see if there is any interference with the trailer hook-up. I am unsure how far out the trailer hitch will stick out. Just eyeing it, it seems too close to the car body... we will see.
Works good. Install was easy except for having to run a wire up front to battery. (Would have been much easier with hybrid). Used a friend's vehicle lift helped.

Sounds like install went pretty smooth for you Ron. It's always nice to have a lift available and a buddy to help! Towing anything fun?
Super easy to install with great instructions!
Even easier cuz I have a hybrid
Easy installation, just like the e-trailers video.
Super easy install and the video helped a lot. Broke a few tabs but they cost a few cents so it’s not a big deal.
Easy installation and functions as adve rtised.
Installing the hitch took longer than expected and I had to remove the towing hook from the car to fit the hitch. All and all, I had a positive experience.

Love it, well in fact I never have to think about it but I use it every week to take the trailer to the dump for grass clippings. The wiring kit has never had an issue, all lights work, still just as happy!
