Difference Between Curt and etrailer Hitch For 2020 Toyota RAV4

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13416 and the etrailer hitch receiver part # e23ZR for the 2020 Toyota RAV4 are both concealed cross tube hitches so the only portion of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver tube. Both hitches have the same design but the etrailer offers about 75 lbs more towing capacity.

However, both hitches exceed the towing capacity weight rating of the RAV4 so both are a great option. I personally recommend the Curt hitch part # C13416 because it is made in the USA. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

If you need trailer wiring, I recommend Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56434. The Curt brand wiring has been known to last a bit longer compared to the other brands especially the converter boxes. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

If you plan on doing some towing you may consider the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If you are not sure how much rise/drop you may need in a ball mount to tow your trailer level, I recommend to take a look at the helpful article I have attached about how to figure the amount of rise or drop you may need.

2024 Rav 4 when installing a curt c- 13416 trailer hitch do you have to trim any plastic off the bottom on bumper. Some of the other models require trimming the bottom of bumper

@GaryW Hi Gary, great question, this comes up a lot with the RAV4s since some hitch options do require trimming. For the Curt # C13416 on a 2024 RAV4, you will not need to trim or cut the rear bumper fascia. It’s designed to bolt up without any modification to the visible plastic on the bumper, which is nice if you’re trying to keep everything looking factory clean. That said, even though that Curt model didn’t require trimming, it’s no longer one we carry. If you end up looking at other hitch options, just keep in mind that some brands especially ones that sit a bit more hidden may require a small fascia trim underneath. It really just depends on the design and how tight they tuck up under the bumper. If you want, I can point you to a current hitch option for your 2024 RAV4 that also avoids trimming
