Best Hitch for Not Blocking the Kick Sensor on a 2024 Toyota RAV4

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 11/27/2024

Question:

I want a behind the bumper 2” hitch and wiring for my 2024 RAV4 hybrid limited. I have a kick switch on the tail gate. What do you recommend and can I keep the kick switch without complications?

Hey Len! There's only one hitch available for your 2024 Toyota RAV4 hybrid limited that won't interfere with the kick sensor and it is the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite item # DT97YR. Unlike the other options this hitch installs behind your bumper so it doesn't block the sensor. The receiver being removable is also a nice perk because your RAV4 can have an OEM look when you're not towing a trailer or hauling an accessory.

For a wiring harness, I recommend the Curt T-Connector item # C56434. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Toyota's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side rear access panels. This will provide you with a 4-way connector to control your trailer or accessories lighting functions.

To round out your towing setup, I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.

Hey Len, how did the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite work out with the kick sensor on your RAV4 hybrid? Did the sensor still function smoothly after the hitch was in place? Your update could make it easier for others with the same setup.

Kick sensor worked but finding the sweet spot was tricky. I didn’t like it Santos I turned it off

@Len Good to know. Did you have any issues without the receiver attached on the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite item # DT97YR? Or was it just with the receiver on?

@JerredHHave had issues with sensors on Ford Escape and Toyota. They are unreliable and annoying. The fob is way more practical some owners move the sensor location but it’s not worth the effort to me
