Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Curt replacement safety cable. This is going to replace the safety cable that came with your Curt base plate kit. It will attach your base plate to your vehicle's frame for added security. Now keep in mind, this is not the same thing as a safety chain, which connects between your towed vehicle and your RV.
That's a different component. This is to wrap around your base plate and connect it to the frame of your vehicle. So if you have a Curt base plate and it originally came with a safety cable like this, and it's become damaged or lost or something along those lines, this is going to be the replacement for you. This does have a maximum brake force of 3,500 pounds. It is a nice steel cable with a vinyl coating to help protect the cable from rust and to make it easier to hold onto.
You don't have to worry about getting metal splinters in your hands or anything like that.This is right about 36 inches long when I measured it out. Going from end to end, it was actually a little bit longer than that. I measured it out at about 37 1/4 from the end of one end to the end of the other. But when you're actually mounting it in place, it'll probably be about 36 between your two connections there. It is right at about 1/4 of an inch in diameter.
You are just going to get the one cable with this kit, so it's just going to replace one of your safety cables. If you need multiple, you can just purchase multiple quantities or we do have other options available as well.This does come with a limited lifetime warranty, so you can trust it's going to hold up well, meet your needs.
