Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the 14 inch by 5 1/2 inch Trinity Series black machined aluminum trailer wheel. Now, this is an aluminum wheel. It's very durable, lightweight, and rustproof. We mentioned it is the Trinity Series, which is a five-fork design in the black color, has the machined silver accents right here on the edge of the spokes and even on the outer lip to provide a nice, bold, sleek look.
The glossy black enamel coating resists corrosion. If you notice, it does come with the center cap. And what's nice with this center cap, if you look close, you'll see it has the outer or the plug here in the middle, and what that does is that'll pop off. And what that allows is when this is installed, if you happen to have E-Z Lube axles on your trailer, which are the ones that have these grease zerk fitting on the spindle that allows you to grease the bearings without having to take off the wheels and tires to access it, all you have to do is pop off that center cap or that center lug, center plug here, and that'll get you gain access to grease the zerk fittings without having to take off your whole wheels and tires. Also, if you notice right down here, the valve stem is included, it's pre-installed into the wheel.
Now, this wheel does meet the SAE J1204 standards. A few measurements on this, it's 14 inch diameter, and that's always measured inside to inside. So just to show you, if we take our tape measure, and if we go straight across, there's your 14 inch diameter. The width, same way, will be measured inside to inside, so bead seat to bead seat, 5 1/2 inches. Now, the bolt pattern on this wheel is a five on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.
And if you want to measure the bolt pattern on a wheel like this, that's an odd number of lugs, five, what you'll do is just pick any hole, let's say this one, and then you'll measure across to either this hole or this hole. But when you measure, it's from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you measure to. So on this one, if we measure it to be 4 1/2 inches, the wheel lug size it uses is a 1/2 inch by 20, pilot hole diameter, which is the large hole here that your center cap goes through, the diameter on this pilot hole is 3.19 inches, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 2,200 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Taskmaster 14 inch by 5 1/2 inch Trinity Series black machined aluminum trailer wheel.
