Video Transcript for Review of the Firestone Fuse Circuit Tap Kit

Today we're going to take a look at the Firestone Fuse Circuit Tap Kit, part number is F2526. Our fuse circuit tap kit allows us to use an existing fuse in our fuse panel to draw power off of for additional accessories. This is going to save us the hassle of splicing into our factory wiring harnesses. Essentially what it's going to allow us to do, choose the fuse we're going to use, this is our tail light circuit fuse, I'm going to pull that out, it's going to go in the bottom slot. You can see I've already installed our other 10 amp fuse on the top, that's going to create a fuse for this wire. We've got our normal fuse circuit here, and an additional fuse circuit here where we will be able to get our power. This circuit tap comes with several sizes, you've got a 10, a 20, and a 30 amp fuse that you can pick from.

You want to get that slid down in and then it's just a matter of connecting our 12 volt wire right there. Then all we'll have to do is crimp it down. Now with our fuse circuit tap kit installed you'll see we've got full power to our accessory, allowing it to illuminate any time we turn on our running lights. That will complete today's installation of the Firestone Fuse Circuit Tap Kit, part number F2526.

After watching etrailer's video, I purchased this item with the ETBC7 kit. Worked as it should. I routed the wiring a little different so I didn't have to cut the fuse case cover. The price is more than others but I didn't care. Their video alone was worth paying the difference in price.

by:

I have bought many trailers and wiring kits from E-trailer over the years. Their videos make it so easy to do it yourself.
Thanks again.

This fuse tap made getting power from a switched power source relatively easy. I used it to provide power from a fuse that was hot with the ignition switch in the accessory or run position so that the solenoid for my trailer wiring and trailer brake controller would be hot whenever the switch was in either of those two positions. I picked a fuse for an item that wouldn't normally have a high demand current so that adding the solenoid wouldn't overload the fuse or the circuit. The final installation of the fuse tap was made in the engine compartment fuse box of my 2001 Toyota Tundra. The wire coming off the fuse tap was just barely long enough for my installation but worked out fine once I moved the solenoid closer. The whole setup has been working without any issues for a year now even though I only occasionally tow the trailer. The solenoid is powered every time I drive the truck and I've had no blown fuses!

The customer service at etrailer is awesome. When I discovered that I had ordered the wrong fuse circuit I sent a note via their website asking for help. They got back to me right away and helped me find the correct part. They also sent me clear instructions on how to return the original part. I'll be ordering from etrailer again and again I'm sure.

by:

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would have to give etrailer customer service an 11+. This item was out of stock when the order was placed. I received several emails as to the progress of my order. They even offered the option of canceling my order. The product was as advertised when it arrived. I have used etrailer before and plan to use it again in the future.

All is great. The level of service at etrailer takes me back to the sixties. I ordered the wrong ball for the draw bar I selected. Someone called from etrailer almost immediately and straightened everything out. Even with my mess up I got the order in two shipping days! Great company, great service, great prices, and unbelievable array of products...not even mentioning the incredible help and information available on line. I wish we could clone these guys.

  • Can You Get Third Brake Light and 12 Volt Power For Camper Shell From 7-Way Trailer Connector
On a 7-Way trailer connector, the brake lights and turn signals are combined on the same circuit so you cannot tap into the wiring there for a third brake light. If you did, the third brake light would blink with the turn signal. Normally if you follow the wiring harness back (towards the front of the vehicle) you may find additional wires that you can test with a circuit tester like # PTW2979 if needed to see if there is a third brake light wire there. You can also use the stop light...

  • Running Lights Relay On 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 For Trailer
The fuse box location and the actual spot in the fuse box where the running light fuse is located will depend on the year, make and model of your vehicle. Assuming that you have a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500, I pulled up a copy of your owners manual online and it looks like The Power Distribution Center is located in the engine compartment near the battery. This center contains cartridge fuses, micro fuses, relays, and circuit breakers. A description of each fuse and component may be stamped on...

  • Circuit Suggestion for Tapping Fuse for Install of Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System
I can only recommend you go with the same amperage rating as what is called for in the install instructions of the Air Lift WirelessONE Compressor System for Air Helper Springs # AL25980 that you are installing. Since you want to use a circuit that only sees voltage when the key is on the radio fuse is a common one that is used. You have to go with the same voltage though as too high may cause damage to the compressor and too low would cause the fuse to blow all the time. I attached an...

  • Wiring For 3rd Brake Light On Camper Shell On 2016 Ford F-150
To wire in a truck camper shell's third brake light to your 2016 Ford F-150 you can access that brake light signal either by splicing into the truck's own 3rd brake light wiring or install a fuse tap # F2526 into the fuse position for the brake light circuit and access the signal that way. The dash fuse box, called the BCM or body control module is located under the passenger side of the dash behind the kick panel below the glove box. The brake light (CHMSL) wire you need is located in...

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2012 Chevy Suburban
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that your 2012 model Chevy Suburban 1500 uses 1/2 inch transmission lines so the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler # D13960 won't be the best option. For your Suburban you will instead want the Derale Hyper-Cool # D15960 which is essentially the same cooler with fan but designed to work with the 1/2 inch lines. An adapter isn't needed as the compression fitting that comes included with this cooler should work perfectly. A transmission...

Yes. There is no reason that you can't just use the upfitter switch in your Ford F-250 to connect the power of the Custom 3rd Brake Light Camera # 3460006 instead of installing a new switch. I've linked an installation video we did that you can use as a reference, as well.

The brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to set up and operate. You will need to find the wiring under the dash of your Safari and hardwire the brake controller. I have attached a helpful article that explains how this is done. I do recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 when working with the wiring to make sure you know the function of each wire. To install the P2 you will need to locate...

  • Right Turn Signal Not Working on Trailer Towed by 2014 Ram 1500
The first thing I'd recommend you do is to check the trailer connector on the truck using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. The blade in the 3:00 position should show power when the right turn signal is activated and brake pedal. If you do get a signal on this pin, the problem is in the trailer wiring. The right turn circuit on a trailer is usually a green wire that you can trace from the trailer connector on back, looking for pinched wires or loose connections. You'll also want to check...

Normally what you would do is remove the tail light assembly that contains the reverse lights and test the wires for the reverse light circuit and tap in there. I have also heard that the reverse light circuit can be tapped into at the fuse panel inside the vehicle, under the hood, or in a wiring harness behind the driver side front kick panel. Otherwise your trailer battery could drain the battery in the tow vehicle. It's impossible for your trailer-mounted auxiliary battery to be overcharged by the vehicle battery via the 12 volt feed on the 7-way since it only passes through a low current trickle-type charge. In fact, this is only enough for a maintenance charge - if your trailer battery is completely depleted, this method of battery charging will not provide a full re-charge.
