Hey everyone, it's Colin here at E-Trailer, and today we have a 2018 Ford Edge. We're going to test fit the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system. This is a roof rack system that's been designed to mount to the flush side rails of your Ford Edge. It's going to give you a really nice rack to be able to get your favorite rooftop accessories loaded on top of your Edge, rather than taking up space on the inside of your vehicle. You're going really conserve on that elbow and leg room. You're going to be able to get anything from a bike rack to a kayak carrier, maybe even a cargo box on top.
Now up top, we're going to have our 49 inches long Vortex Aero crossbars. They do have a nice elliptical shape to them, it's going to help cut down on wind noise and drag, especially when you're traveling at high speeds. And when you compare to the standard square or round bar roof rack system, this one's going to be a little bit quieter. These are in black right now, but they're also available in silver on our website. So if you think that your Edge will look better with silver arrow bars, then just check out our website. We do have a rubber strip up top, that's going to help cut down on that windows and drag with the elliptical shape.
And it's also going to be able to utilize T-slot accessories. What we'll do is come unlock our end cap with the little key right here. It is just a plastic lock. You can replace it with the Rhino-Rack lock core system to even match the locks on our legs. What we'll do is pull the rubber strip out, cut it to length for whatever accessory we're going to use, re-insert it, tighten it down, and then put our end cap back on.Now right here, we have our SRB legs for the Vortex Aero crossbars.
This is what's connecting our crossbars to our flush-mounted side rails. What's nice is that this is a tool-free install. The tool is actually included on the leg and we do have a lock on it, so right now we can not access it. Just go ahead and unlock it from there. We can lift up the tool.
There is a lot of tension on it right now, but that's just because it's fully tightened down. From here we can tighten or loosen up our legs to get that proper fit. When we're all done, we just put it down for storage, lock it back up. Now on the inside, we do have nice rubber coating everywhere, including a rubber-coated hook. That's latching under the lip right here, inaudible 00:02:16 that rubber coating is going to help make sure it doesn't harm or scratch the finish of your raised side rails. Now I want to go over a few measurements for you guys. First from the top of our roof to the bottom of our Vortex bar it's going to be three inches. Should be more than enough space to get your clamp-on accessories underneath your crossbars without damaging the top of your roof. We'll go from the top of our roof to the top of our bar, that's going to be four and a half inches. You want to keep that in mind for low-clearance situations that you have that height added to your roof. We're going to have a weight capacity of 165 pounds for this Vortex Aero roof rack system, but always double check with your Edge's owner's manual. Make sure your roof can handle that weight. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's show you guys how to get this installed. Now it's very easy to assemble and install, it's going to be the same process for the front bar and the back bar. What we'll do is get our SX leg into the track right here. We're just going to take it and we're going to push it in and then up at the same time. Push it in towards itself and then up, it's going to unlock the tab that's on the inside of the track, and then we'll just take it and feed it into the track right here. Now from here we can just take our end cap, put it on, take our little plastic key, lock that up. Now we can get it on our roof. Now we're just going to raise it over taught, get it onto our flush side rails. Now we're just going to measure our crossbar spread. What we'll do is measure from the center on center on both sides. Haven't got our front bar in place so I just measured from the front edge of our flush-mounted side rail and went up to the edge of my leg. So just going to go to the other side, make sure I get the same measurement. What we'll do is just pull up on our little tightening tab right there and just be tightening down both sides or any of the other sides, fully tightened down. There's no need to over-tighten this roof rack system. It's getting pretty snug go a couple more rotations, and then we'll push it back down into its storage position. Gotta make sure you get it exactly right. Just like that. Now what we're going to do is grab our key and lock it up so that no one can access that tool. Now, when you get everything tightened down, it's always going to need to grab a hold of your roof rack, give it a good shake. Just make sure everything is secure. You can see the entire vehicle is moving. Now we're going to be ready to load up our favorite rooftop accessories, and then hit the road.Well, thank you all for watching. That'll do it for our test fit of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero roof rack system on our 2018 Ford Edge.
