Hey, trying to find a roof rack for my 2012 Honda CRV EX-L. There is a LOT of info on the web, but still not sure what I would be missing if I went with a non top-of-the-line brand/model. Right now, I am planning on using it for a cargo box. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

You are correct that there is a break-point in roof rack quality. A middle-of-the-road option that I recommend using for your 2012 Honda CR-V EX-L is the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar system which includes the following for your flush mount rails:

The biggest differences between the Rhino-Rack setup vs a Thule setup for example is that the Thule pieces tend to fit together a little easier and the Thule WingBar Evo crossbars use a newly designed rubber strip which eliminates the need to cut it when mounting T-Slot accessories. Since you plan on using the roof rack for a cargo box this doesn't really apply to you and I believe you will be happy with the Rhino-Rack kit.

If you don't already have a cargo box then I recommend going with the Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y07192 which gives you 14 cu ft of storage space and a box that can be accessed from either side of the vehicle. I have attached a review video you can check out for more.
