Question:
Hello, I have a 2014 Honda CR-V that does not have a raised side rail on the roof. It does have strip of channel steel under a removable rubber strip down each side of the roof. I would like to find a rack system that would mount directly to the channel steel. I imagine I would need to cut the rubber strip around the feet when I put it back in. I dont want to purchase OEM siderails if I can avoid it. Can you please show me some options? Thanks.

We do have roof racks for your 2014 Honda CR-V that has flush (not raised) side rails on its roof. Some of these racks, like the Rhino-Rack Vortex do install using the vehicle's fixed mounting points, while others from SeaSucker like their Monkey Bar system # 298-SX6000B use their specialized vacuum cups to make their racks easily removable in only seconds if that is a feature you prefer.
For a quiet aero-style rack that does not cost a fortune I recommend the Rhino Vortex system made of parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRCL4 and # RRRCP33-BK. This rack will use your factory fixed mounting points for installation and it will give you a 165-lb maximum weight capacity for cargo items. This rack uses black crossbars which many consider to look more like a factory rack.
Like your CR-V's roof rails the elliptical Vortex bars have rubber strips in their top channels which allow use of both regular rack-mount accessories that clamps on, like kayak carrier # E98878, as well as T-slot type carriers.
