Distance Between Legs/Crossbars for 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL Roof Racks

Updated 01/10/2026 | Published 01/08/2026

Question:

Good morning. I have a question about the dimensions between towers of two products for my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL. I have a wide ski rack with wrap-around clamps so I’m looking to maximize my width between towers. Is it possible to provide the useable distance between the inside edge of the towers for the following two options? 1 Yakima SkyLine Towers with JetStream bars, and 2 Rhino Rack Sportz RX300L. I hope this question makes sense and thank you very much!

Hi Jeff; that makes sense but the only way to get that information will be for you to measure. When you have a clamp on rack the distances will be listed in instructions or a guide. Racks like the Yakima SkyLine Roof Rack # Y77TB fit on the fixed mounting points on your flush rails. You can measure from the inside to inside on those mounting points and it will give you a good idea where they will sit. One way or another you're pretty much stuck with that crossbar spread.

The JetStream bars that come with the # Y77TB are probably the quietest if you plan on leaving the roof rack on all the time. If you want to go with the Sportz Aero bars you will need the crossbars # RR28AG, legs # RR39YE, and the fit kit # RRRCP64-BK. I plan to install the Sportz on my Jeep in the near future but haven't had a chance to yet so I can't say for sure how quiet they are. I do like the design though, looks good on a Jeep.

Any big ski trips coming up?

Hi Robin. Thanks for the quick reply. I think my question wasn’t clear. I was looking for the distance side to side (not front to back). For example one of your videos for the Skyline FX says it’s about 33” useable space across the vehicle. I was wondering if using the bars and Skyline towers would add any width? (Again, same question for the Rhino Rack). Thanks!

@JeffR you said width, I read it wrong and went somewhere else with it that's my fault. It is going to be approximately 32" of usable space before you get to the tower on the Yakima. I don't have that information for the Sportz bars since we haven't installed them yet. I can try reaching out to Rhino-Rack and see if they know but lately they take about a month to respond. Looking at the legs it will be roughly the same width as the Yakima.

@RobinH, thanks. I’ll probably go with Rhino-Rack. Looks a bit lower profile. Also looks like they upgraded the system to the Sportz bars for my Jeep: * RCP Base Kit (x4), RCP64-BK * RX300 Low leg (4PCS), RX300L-4 * Sportz Bar (Black 50") (x2), SZ126B-U

@JeffR I agree, which is why that is what I'm putting on my Grand Cherokee L. Those are the same parts I linked, just our part numbers instead of the Rhino-Rack part numbers. Although the fit kit # RRRCP64-BK is almost the same. The # RR39YE is the RX300L-4 and the # RR28AG is the single 50" Sportz bar SZ126B-U so you will need two.
