I am having an issue fitting the adapter bar on the kids bike. Is there another way I should have it?

On your 2016 Volvo XC90 if you have a roof rack you can use the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top Trunk Bike Rack # HRF2 or # HRF2-3. I confirmed this with the manufacturer. We don't list the fit in our guide because it requires the rails for a fit. If you don't have a roof side rails then you will need to add a roof rack to your flush mounted rails to use that rack. The # RRVA126B-2 and # RRSX040 are my recommendation. If you have the raised factory side rails then you don't need to add crossbars.

If that isn't a great option for you then I recommend instead getting a hitch. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13233 along with a rack like # S63380.

For the step-thru frame women's bike and the kids bike, I recommend using the bike adapter bar # 64005 that will create a top frame rail between the seat post and handlebars. This gives you level transport and ground clearance.

It seems this bike rack is not fitting my vehicle. It is pressing up against my windshield wiper.

Thanks for the photo as a follow up. You absolutely shouldn't have the rack resting on the windshield wiper. Hollywood racks lists the fit for your vehicle on their website, so they have tested the fit and determined that it will work as designed. You will want to adjust the pivot positioning so the portion currently resting on the wiper is away from the vehicle. I've attached another photo for you from the installation instructions to show you how the rack should fit on your vehicle.

Thanks for the photo again. The Swagman # 64005 adapter bar can be used on an angle from that seat post to the handlebars so you can either adjust the seat post higher or attach to the top bar of the handlebar (which may require removing the foam and cover). It will allow for fit on the rack this way. If you prefer a shorter adapter for more level transport then the Yakima Tube Top adapter bar # Y02531 is the best route. It adjusts from 14-1/2 inches to better fit smaller kids bikes.
