Features to Know About
Flat Hooks for Flatbeds
Designed for stake pockets and trailer edges. No hunting for small anchor points, and the wide hook face helps spread the load at the rail.
Safe Load Use
The working load limit is what counts, not the break strength. Each strap's rated for 3,333 lbs, so a set of four safely secures up to 13,332 lbs. If your cargo's heavier, use more straps and tighten them down. Better to be safe than chasing your load down the road.

See what our Experts say about this etrailer Ratchet Straps
Rob, for a zero-turn that size, either style will work, so it really comes down to your anchor points. Do you know what style your trailer has?
If your 5x10 has stake pockets or a solid top rail, the flat-hook kit # e72SV is the cleanest connection and gives you the extra strength margin with its 3,333-lb working load limit per strap. If your trailer mainly has D-rings or welded loops, the double-J kit # e42SV seats better and won’t twist the webbing.
The mower itself is well within... view full answer...
Good morning, Mason. With a trailer that has both stake pockets and D-rings, you’re actually going to fine with either option. The flat-hook kit # e72SV works best in the stake pockets or over the rail because the hook lies flat and loads evenly, while the double-J kit # e42SV seats nicely into welded D-rings and it doesn't matter as much if the strap gets pulled a different direction since the hook isn't flat.
Both kits use 2" wide straps and come with the water-resistant bags, so the... view full answer...
Colin, the flat hooks on the # e72SV ratchet straps are steel, so any metal-on-metal contact can mark the paint over time, especially if the strap angle pulls downward across the rail. You could always just slip a small piece of rubber or an edge protector under the hook if you want to keep the rail pristine.
If you’d rather avoid rail contact altogether, the double-J kit # e42SV or the S-hook kit # e92NR will attach directly to D-rings or smaller anchors without touching the side rail... view full answer...
Hey Denise, the S-hook Ratchet Strap Kit # e92NR is actually a great fit for dirt bikes - each strap has a 700-lb working load limit, so a set of four gives you plenty of capacity for two bikes as long as you use proper tie-down points. The nice part is the S-hooks have keepers on them, so they don’t hop out of bed anchors the way open hooks sometimes can.
If you were hauling something heavier like a side-by-side, I’d nudge you toward the double-J kit # e42SV or even the flat-hook #... view full answer...
Henry, you’re good to go with the flat-hook straps # e72SV - each strap is rated for a 3,333-lb working load limit, so when you tie the tractor down at four corners you get over 13,000 lbs of combined safe capacity. That’s exactly why this style is often used on equipment trailers with stake pockets. Just be sure your anchor points are solid and the hooks fully seat in the pockets or rail.
Do you normally secure the tractor by the frame or by the axles, Henry? I've seen it done a few... view full answer...
Landon, flat hooks like the ones on the # e72SV straps really need a flat or square trailer rail (or standard rectangular stake pocket) to sit properly. They won’t get a solid bite on a pipe-style round rail, because the hook can’t fully seat against a curved surface. If your trailer has open stake pockets with a flat surface inside them, you can still use the flat hooks there - just not on the round top rail itself.
If your main tie-down points are that pipe rail, you’ll want the double-J... view full answer...
Shane, the big advantage of the flat-hook on this ratchet strap kit # e72SV is how it loads against a flat surface - like a stake pocket or trailer flat rail - instead of pulling on a d-ring etc. That spreads the force better and gives you a more stable tie-down on equipment trailers. If your trailer has a good rail system, flat hooks feel rock solid.
The double-J kit # e42SV still works great, especially with D-rings or smaller welded anchors, but the hooks don’t sit flat against a rail... view full answer...
Steven, mixing is totally fine and sometimes ideal, but it really just comes down to what attachment points or tie-downs you have on the trailer deck. The flat-hook ratchet strap kit # e72SV gives you maximum strength and work perfectly in the stake pockets or hooked to the flat trailer rail, while the S-hook ratchet strap kit # e92NR latches easily onto smaller D-rings or welded loops on the deck.
There's no harm is mixing and matching if that's what you want to do. Just make sure your... view full answer...
Trevor, all three of these etrailer kits use the same large, easy-to-grip ratchet handle, so the release action is consistent across the flat-hook # e72SV, double-J # e42SV, and S-hook # e92NR ratchet strap sets. They all use the same updated design, which still needs a little finesse now and then - that’s just the nature of ratchets - but they release much smoother than older, tighter mechanisms, even after you’ve really cranked them down.
If your current straps gum up when they get... view full answer...
Mara, both the flat-hook ratchet strap kit # e72SV and the double-J ratchet strap kit # e42SV come with the larger 15-liter water-resistant bags, and they easily have room for the four straps plus gloves, soft loops, and a few small accessories. We do have some Soft Loops that double as motorcycle tie-down straps here: # e74BR. Its rated for 1,500lbs WWL. You can also grab some work gloves # PT48FR.
The S-hook kit # e92NR includes its own accessory bag too, just sized a little smaller... view full answer...
