Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?

Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

SolidStep Door Flanges

The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.

SolidStep Door Flanges

Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 25" wide to 28-7/8" wide for these steps to work.

If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.

The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

SolidStep Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.

Once you know your doorway width and entry heigh measurements, the chart below will tell you which part number you need. This page's step assembly is in bold text.

Doorway WidthEntry Heightetrailer Part Number
24"22" - 28" LC713662
25" - 28.9"22" - 28"LC733931
27" - 36"LC791572
35" - 44"LC791574
29" - 36"22" - 28"LC733932
27" - 36"LC791573
35" - 44"LC791575

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Place the mounting bracket into the camper doorway
  3. Extend until feet touch the ground
  4. Center the steps in the doorframe
  5. Slide assembly forward until firmly placed against outside threshold
  6. Install fasteners through the mounting holes into the camper floor

-Secure the hardware (not included) but dont tighten

  7. Lift the step assembly into the doorway and make sure the latching arm engages

-If necessary, loosen the bolts on the latching arm to adjust

  8. Tighten the latching arm bolts and the floor fasteners

The steps are great! I rated as a 2 star because they were received with damage. I do not believe this is an eTrailer issue as the packaging from Lippert was to blame.

by:

Just what we needed.not hard to install.like the adjustable feet to keep step level on uneven camp sites. Thanks .

by:

Great product and easy to install thanks to the etrailer installation videos. Once again etrailer delivered! They are all awesome!!!!

by:

Product arrived earlier than expected and was in perfect condition with all parts included. It was very easy to install myself thanks to the video from etrailer! I am very happy with my purchase!

by:

This is fantastic. Fast shipping easy to install. Makes it so much easier to carry in those weekend groceries. My husband also has hip issues and he loves this. No more worrying about making those huge steps down anymore. Thank you!

by:

We have ordered several times from etrailer.com and have never had a problem. And, we love the steps!

by:

Received these last week it took me about an hour to install the unit it is solid to walk on , my wife and mother in law love them. Would recommend this to any one who has an older rv needing solid steps to go up and down.

by:

My package arrived intact. No holes which I was surprised after reading other reviews. My installation took about 30 minutes. Pretty straightforward. After fine tuning the legs, everything was very sturdy. So far, very happy I went with this unit

by:

The solid step is a great upgrade for our 2018 hybrid shamrock 233s. It eliminated the side roll when kids jump on the factory underside mounted steps. I would highly recommend adding this to your camper.

by:

Impressed!!!
I was ready for this to
be a problem installation but I took my time to watch the video and it went very well. Less than an hour and it works great. Thanks!

Still works very well. I like that it has adjustible legs for differant surfaces were parked on.

by:

Sturdy. Easy to install and use. Would have given 5 stars except one of the door frame storage brackets needed a fair amount of bending to make it the correct 90 deg.

by:

Unfortunately, the steps arrived the sameday my camper went to the shop for repairs. so I will not be installing these until we get the camper back. i normally give etrailer 5 stars but as the pictures show this box arrived with packing tape on the sides of the box , on the corners and accross the top where the box was damaged. I open the box to inspect and not sure what was included. With the stairs was a bag of screws. no instructions. I would suggest that the packaging needs to be improved. I hope once i start the install that the step are in working condition.

by:

These steps were amazing. But we sold the camper the people paid extra so they could keep them.

by:

Stairs were installed in a 2018 Forest River Work & Play. The original 2-step stairs caused issues with my knees due to the excessive riser height. The new stairs riser height is 8 inches. Installation of the stairs itself was quick and easy with my wife assisting while I drilled the mounting holes in the floor. Installation took less than 30 minutes.

One issue that I encountered was that the screen door was scraping along the sheetmetal threshold of the SolidStep, preventing the RV door from closing while the steps were in the down position. The fix was that I cut approx 1/4 inch of the vertical rails of the screen door and re-assembled the screen door. Door closes without binding now.

by:

After realizing my steps were broken,I had to decide whether to fix them or go a different route. I saw these on another guys camper, since they were also not his original steps,I checked them out and decided to give them a try. The install was easy and they are very sturdy. After removing the seal plate I put down some RV roof sealing tape and plan on caulking the corners later. I also decided to buy longer screws since the ones it came with didn't seem to really grab anything. Didn't really want to deal with the bolts but if I have any problems could always go back with them. Overall a simple install and much improvement over the old steps. If I could change one thing it would be the pin to adjust the legs at the bottom to a push in pin like on pop up tent legs.

by:

Package was a little beat up but the stairs were in great shape thankfully. I look forward to getting them installed. I am replacing an old original set of fold out stairs from under the door. I think these will be a major upgrade.

by:

If you want a 'solid step', this is a solid buy. 10/10 for sure!

I installed these in my '22 Winnebago 2225RL. The step and installation are super simple. Including taking out my old steps, it took me 30-40 minutes total including adjusting the locking mechanism.

The installation instructions are really easy to follow. I didn't have to remove my old threshold, but that is not true for everyone. So check this first before you go drilling into anything. I attached some pictures to give a before and after view.

The installation went like this for me...Make sure you're rig is level. Make sure the hinge is folded closed before starting. Lay your steps out, center it in the door, and adjust the feet accordingly. Test your door! Test it several times to make sure nothing is going to bind and that you have clearance in all the right places.

You'll see one hole on either side of the Solid Step black threshold that allows you to drill and screw in your first two connections. Once those are complete, fold up your steps and adjust your locking mechanism so that it closes and latches correctly. After you've got everything working the way you want, install the remaining screws or bolts (based on your type of floor) and secure it all down. Enjoy your new steps!

by:

We had to replace our steps from our 2021 new Bullet because somebody ran over it while we were in a parking stop. This was the exact same steps and we just had to screw them with the same metal screw without screwing under the floor. Ten minutes and it was done.

After a year its still working out and give us perfect satisfaction. Thank you.

by:

Received steps and noticed they were racked to one side. Had to repair that after I mounted them. The adjustable leg pins are not user friendly. I replaced the pins with something that was easier to adjust with. Other than that they were super easy to install and seem very durable.

I love the solid step. Easy installation. We have a 2013 25BHS Jayflight and the step blends in beautifully. More secure than the original step. Great investment for our trailer.

The steps look great on your Jayflight, David! It's amazing how something as simple as upgrading your steps can make a world of difference! Have you been out camping with them yet?

by:

Hi all,
It’s been a year since we purchased
our steps. I had slid down our old steps on a rainy morning so I came home and immediately ordered from etrailer (our go to source). I wanted a wide first landing step and this is perfect . It is adjustable to our various ground levels so that is a plus. . This is a very stable step. I would recommend it!

Excellent product replacing original steps on 2013 Forest River Surveyor. Only fitment issue per Lippert instructions placed hinge plate too high and door would not close. Easy fix, cut threshold section out to allow hinge plate sit flush on floor. Fits great, looks great, high quality product.

The Lippert steps have worked out great... I Like em and my wife steps much easier and safer

by:

Definitely worth the money, Easy instal lation.

by:

Positives: This was a simple installation. The hardest part was removing the old steps-took 2 of us (and a few grunts!). I filed off the inner lip on the threshold and removed the transition strip to make things as level as possible prior to installation. It took about 3/4 hour to finish install after that. Great product, (first in-field use will be Thursday 10/8/20).
Negatives: The shipping carton was trashed and loose parts were strewn throughout. I didn't receive the 4" #10 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts, so I used the wood screws but I'm pretty sure I'll need to through bolt the assembly to the trailer in the future. LCI - replacements please? Also, ordered clevis pins with bimini rings for easier support strut length adjustment.
Overall: Very Positive Upgrade-Easy & Useful. I would recommend to anyone who wants a better steps than the OEM.

One year later and we’re very pleased with our purchase. Absolutely no problems and they provide a sturdier platform to get into our trailer. No complaints. We would purchase again.

by:

The steps were fairly easy to install. Videos were a big help. The unit is well constructed and completely assembled, requiring only installation. All the provided hardware is quality stuff. It took awhile to get over my fear of doing irreparable harm to my RV with a drill driver. Double check your measurements and listen to your wife when you're about to do something stupid.

  • Is there an Easier Way to Use the Pin on the Lippert Solid Steps or Should I Switch to MorRyde?
Hello Nancy, I’m sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with the pin system. Unfortunately, you're not alone as I have heard similar complaints from others as well. Sadly, I haven’t found a good way to make the current setup easier to use. I’d recommend switching to the MORryde StepAbove RV Steps for 23-3/4" to 26-1/4" wide doorways – 3 Steps, part # MR98RR. Hey James, thanks for reaching out. You’re right on the measurements, and the Lippert # LC432678 is going to be the closest match in that single-step pull-out style. With your mounting space at 26-1/8" and the step bracket at 25-3/4", you’ve only got about 3/8" total gap to deal with, so it’s actually a pretty minor difference. It can be a bit tricky to fold down with limited space, but if you have about 44" or 45" or more to work with it could be done.
