Screen Door Will Not Close After Installing Lippert SolidStep - Is There A Solution?

Updated 07/07/2024 | Published 06/23/2024

Question:

I just installed the 3 step Step system onto my RV. The issue I have is the screen door does not close. Is there something I did wrong or do you have a solution? Thank you

Hello Rodney, thanks for reaching out. You did not necessarily do anything wrong when installing your step. It is not entirely uncommon for the Lippert SolidStep RV Steps like part # LC791572 to cause interference with the screen door.

The recommended solution for this is to trim the bottom of the screen door frame. To do this, with the steps down, take a piece of tape and place one on each side, down on the threshold at the edge of the step bracket. From here you'll need to raise the steps up inside the door frame, separate the screen door from the outer door, close your screen door, and mark the bottom edge of the screen door frame at the edge of the tape. This'll be the width you need to cut. Doing this will allow the screen door to close, the entry door may still be tight, but it will be close.

Hello Jesse M, Upon calling Lippert, I found out that the under the scree door sealer was to small (less than a quarter inch). My camper is older, thus the step would not work. The Lippert representative that I spoke to said that under no circumstance should I trim off the bottom of the screen door. Newer campers have around a 3/4" seal under the screen door and these steps are made for them. Thought your team should know this. Thank you,
