Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Yakima Replacement Lid Support. This is going to replace the lid support for your Yakima cargo box. This is gonna be a direct replacement from Yakima for the models that you see on the screen there. So it will work to replace one lid support, either the front or rear, for your RocketBox, ProRack, SkyBox and Showcase models that you see on the screen. It will also work to replace the front lid support for your RocketBox model on the screen and the rear lift support for the SkyBox models that you see on the screen.
And because this is a direct replacement from Yakima you can trust it is going to work if you have any of those models cargo box, this is gonna be exactly what you need. No worries about fit issues or compatibility problems or anything like that. It is gonna be the direct replacement from Yakima for you. They do also include instructions with some diagrams on how to remove that original and then to install this one here. So everything that you're gonna need to get that original lid support arm replaced so that you can have a functioning cargo box again.

Replaces the lid support for your Yakima cargo box.
I purchased a set of these to try and resolve. The issues I had with my Yakima skybox lid opening along the front edge at highway speeds. Unable to obtain the original hardware from Yakima. I purchased these replacement parts in hopes that it would solve the problem. Due to supply chain issues it took nearly a year and a half or more to receive them and in the end they made no bit of difference on the plus side the folks at etrailer did communicate with me frequently throughout the long delay and overall I’m satisfied with their customer service. These particular parts, however, are unlikely to solve any problems unless you’re. Yakima box lid supports are completely broken.
The lid supports to hold up the lid on my cargo box needed to be replaced. The sales rep was very helpful in identifying the items I needed that would fit my Yakima cargo box. They were shipped in a timely manner, easy to install, and work perfectly.
What can I say, etrailer always has the best advice, they never let you down and they only sell you what you really need. I’ve found their customer service better than any other company..ANY other company! The cargo support was exactly what I needed and it works better than the original design.

This replaced the original front support in my Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite, which had deformed due to summer heat. Installation difficulty was perhaps a 2 out of 10; the old support came out with the removal of 2 screws, and I used the same screws to install this replacement. The only difficulty was working while my head, arms and shoulders were inside the open Skybox.

The replacement support continues to do its job without calling attention to itself. So glad I the part is made available to easily and economically maintain the SkyBox.
All parts matched with my older Yakima Skybox 16! I will be able to get many more happy years of use out of this box now.
Perfect fit.
Perfect replacement for the original supports. Only complaints are 1) for the front support, it’s a pain to get to the bottom screw. But it’s like 1 minute of pain. And 2) it takes forever to get these because EVERYONE who owns a Yakima box with the old supports needs these. Come on Yakima, make them a warranty recall!
That said, these are perfect replacements. The wait time is due to production, not etrailer. Customer support at etrailer was amazing. Thanks guys!

Amazingly! Replacing the sks for my Yakima box has been a game changer for my outdoor recreation all year long. Was so easy to replace the key sets I couldn’t believe it. Wouldn’t have gone any other way about it one year later.
Much more solid than the original supports I had. Difficult to install using the mallet method, since the cargo box absorbs most of the energy of the mallet hit. I suggest you use a 3/8 drill bit to manually scrape off a bit of plastic from the holes if you have any trouble installing these.
This replacement lid support for my Yakima Skybox works great! Much better than the original "accordian" style support, in fact. It was pretty easy to remove the old, busted supports and install these new ones. Now the box pops right open, from either side, and stays wide open. Easy fix that has given my Skybox new life!
Very simple to replace and works well when installed. Only drawback was that they took nearly a year to come in because of supply chain issues. Kudos to etrailer for keeping me apprised of the order status over the course of the almost year I had to wait for them.

Exactly what I needed for my early model SkyBox 21. OEM part. Delivered quickly.
I did receive my order recently, however it took many many months " supply chain issues"you know.
etrailer did keep me informed and promptly answered all my inquiries.
I do realize that these things are out of their control ,they did their best under unusual circumstances.
I also enjoy teasing them when the said it would be sent in October, I replied which year?

They upgraded my shipping at no cost so I got the parts quicker ( lid supports for Yakima skybox 16 ). Parts came with everything I needed including instructions, installed easily and work great.

After a year the new lid supporthinges are working out just fine. The box gets used a lot and there are no issues opening or closing.

I hate to hear that this lid support did not work out. I sm curious as to why Yakima did not have it for you. Was it a supply issue or an obsolete issue? Do you happen to know which model Skybox you have?
