Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Yakima Replacement Lid Support. This is going to replace the lid support for your Yakima cargo box. This is gonna be a direct replacement from Yakima for the models that you see on the screen there. So it will work to replace one lid support, either the front or rear, for your RocketBox, ProRack, SkyBox and Showcase models that you see on the screen. It will also work to replace the front lid support for your RocketBox model on the screen and the rear lift support for the SkyBox models that you see on the screen.
And because this is a direct replacement from Yakima you can trust it is going to work if you have any of those models cargo box, this is gonna be exactly what you need. No worries about fit issues or compatibility problems or anything like that. It is gonna be the direct replacement from Yakima for you. They do also include instructions with some diagrams on how to remove that original and then to install this one here. So everything that you're gonna need to get that original lid support arm replaced so that you can have a functioning cargo box again.

I found the part numbers for replacement/upgraded Yakima hinges from an etrailer employee on a chat forum. His numbers were correct and they fit and work perfectly. Cost was decent, shipping was quick, and most importantly, they were the correct part #’s and work perfect to repair my Yakima roof box.
Arrived quickly, fits, works. One tip: mine mount via a push fit (no screw). Instructions say to use a mallet, but the fit was just too tight - could not get it to connect. I wound up using a round file to ever so slightly widen the openings on the support. That worked well.
This lid support was a perfect fit for an older Yakima Rocketbox. Sturdier than the factory support. Great product!
Great fix to a saggy lid! I was a bit confused that the front and rear hinge were identical even though when I ordered the hinges the part number for the front and rear hinges were different. The bags that the hinges came in were marked with the 2 different part numbers but the actual hinges are identical and have identical part numbers stamped on them. This caused confusion. I expected the hinges to be different as the original scissor hinges being replaced are slightly different in size. Anyway…I installed the identical hinges on the front and rear of the Skybox18 and they appear to work fine.
Great replacement and easy fix. The packaging does not say which one is front or rear, so you will have to research on your own.
It's truly the only reason I kept the skybox. The old hinge was terrible. These new ones I purchased from you guys are 100 times better and a breeze to install.! Thanks again!!!

These were the perfect replacements for my old, but new to me, Yakima Space Booster 11. The springs had ejected out of the original designed lifters and they look a little different (see picture). Without a visible part number or serial number to cross-reference I had to take a chance that these would work, and they did. Although the mallet method in the instructions worked for removing the old ones I couldn't get it to work for putting them back on. I ended up using ratcheting clamps to compress them over the ball joint posts instead which worked much better. It is a tight fit and these won't be coming off the posts on their own.
The service, delivery time, and updates from etrailer are as great as I expected them to be.

The lid support hinges work great and were very simple to install. Have used the car top carrier for several vacations now and they perform as they should. As far as I can remember they arrived quickly and I have not had anything but positive experiences with etrailer.
I purchased this and the other replacement lid part (8880684) for my very old Rocketbox which had the 'scissor' style support. They went in easily, and I can now trust my lid to stay open, and not have the warped scisors getting stuck on things I am carrying. One thing I noticed, is that the stamped numbers on the plastic parts of this and the 8880684 part are identical, so it is probable that they are the same item with two SKUs
Parts worked as advertised. Easy to install and good directions to follow. Seems like a better design than the original design. Lid still opens from either side of the vehicle.

Sweet! That's always a plus :) what do you use your cargo box to carry the most?
The product ended up being correct per the part number, but the instructions were very vague especially for it being a replacement for a Yakima Exo Gearlocker. When I first tried to put them on I dind't think it was going to fit. Additionally, I added a washer to stabilize the smaller side of the hinge. Otherwise, now that it is on, I am very happy to have lid supports again and will see how they hold up. Thank you for supplying this part.

The lid supports to hold up the lid on my cargo box needed to be replaced. The sales rep was very helpful in identifying the items I needed that would fit my Yakima cargo box. They were shipped in a timely manner, easy to install, and work perfectly.

The replacement hinge I ordered has been great. It’s sturdy. I can easily load and unload my car to carrier.

This replaced the original front support in my Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite, which had deformed due to summer heat. Installation difficulty was perhaps a 2 out of 10; the old support came out with the removal of 2 screws, and I used the same screws to install this replacement. The only difficulty was working while my head, arms and shoulders were inside the open Skybox.

The replacement support continues to do its job without calling attention to itself. So glad I the part is made available to easily and economically maintain the SkyBox.

Absolutely love the replacement parts for my yakima. If this part wasnt available I would have bought a different storage unit.
