I may have a solution for you, but the Replacement Lid Support for Yakima Cargo Boxes # 8880683 will not work to replace the gas strut on your old Yakima Rocketbox. However, even though they don't carry them as a replacement part any longer, my contact at Yakima was able to tell me that it's just a standard gas strut like you'd find on a truck cab topper window and came with a 35-lb force rating similar to the Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches - 10 mm Socket - 30 lb Force - 7-1/2" - Steel # 3691863-30.

If you can tell me the compressed length of your strut I can help you locate a replacement if it's longer than 7-1/2".
