Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Thule replacement U-bolt. This is going to replace the U-bolt for your Thule sidekick rooftop cargo carrier. This will also work as a replacement for the Thule Arrow XL cargo box and the Karrite Voyager cargo box. So if you are needing to replace a U-bolt for any of those, this is going to do a great job for you. It is a six millimeter or six M bolt here.
Just to give you a few measurements, you can see it is right about four and a quarter of an inch, in our width. In our height, we're looking at approximately two and a quarter of an inch. Because this is a direct replacement from Thule, you can trust it is going to work for your sidekick cargo carrier. You're not gonna have to worry about fit issues or compatibility problems, will fit right in place of the original and it is also gonna work for the Arrow and Voyager cargo boxes as well. That completes our look for today.

I bought this along with "Replacement 3-Wing, Low M6 Hand Knob for Thule Roof Mounted Kayak Carriers - 753-0783" for my Mondial Car-Go 320. I simply had to drill new holes at 4" apart and now I will be able to install and remove the carrier with much more ease than the nuts and bolts I had to use before. Just had to do a little research on the sizing to make sure I go the correct parts. This should work great!

Lori - It went great. They are so much easier to use than the brackets we previously had. Makes putting the carrier on and take it off much easier and takes half the time.
This is the replacement part for the SportRack Vista XL. Works in place of the sportrack part #1500056955
We ordered M6 hex nuts on amazon and made bracket plates from aluminum flat bar stock.

Saved he day! Perfect fit on our Sears car top carrier.
Didn’t work. I knew it was 50/50 but these are an M6 and the Thule brackets I have need an M7 thread size. Otherwise good product, arrived in good condition and would have been fine if they fit. I was trying to use them with a Thule Evolution roof box. Wasted $30 something bucks. Etrailer shipping was fast and good tracking provided.

These U-bolts are replacing the obnoxious mounting system that was provided with a model year 2015, X-Cargo Extreme, rooftop carrier.
I was slightly concerned with the inside stud spacing of this item, however it worked perfect. The hole spacing on the plastic carrier, exterior bottom support steel plate, and interior steel hold-down plate, are all of a slightly larger diameter, allowing this item to slide in. The minimal resistance provided by the bolt rubbing the insides of the hardware, is just enough to keep the u-bolt in place while you tighten down the spinners inside the carrier.
These bolts are being used on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, fitted with Mopar's factory style, airplane wing shaped, cross bars. ( They're relatively thin, as a thicker dimension bar might run out of stud length on the U-bolt uprights. )
etrailer should be commended for providing their customers a cost effective route, for simplified mounting.

An update on the etrailer u-bolts, for my x-cargo Thule style rooftop carrier. I have now used these replacement u-bolts multiple times, covering many thousands of miles. Theyre still working great! There are no issues with wear to the carrier or the Mopar aluminum cross bars, nor issues from rust or corrosion. They have been used on the beach in the ocean air, to the freezing North-East salt sprayed winter roads. Note: I did rub candle wax on the threaded studs to avoid freezing, in the cold My garage door height will not accommodate my vehicle with the rooftop mounted carrier, resulting in the carrier being taken on and off, quite a bit. That being noted, the threads on the u-bolt studs have held up well, with no cross threading or stripped areas. I would not hesitate to recommend this part to replace X-cargos terribly designed stock mounting system or another wide u-bolt design that has become damaged. Super cost effective alternative to other mounting systems!
I misplaced a specialized u-bolt for my Thule cargo box. After finding that I needed to purchase the entire hardware "kit" from Thule for $50 in order to get a $2 replacement piece of hardware, I instead contacted etrailer.com and got the u-bolt I needed in a timely manner for a couple of dollars. Customer service and follow-up for a simple piece of hardware was exceptional. Good people to do business with.

The cargo carrier with the replacement U-bolt have logged about 5000 miles with no issues.
Exact replacement for the mounting bracket I needed for my Sears XL Cargo rooftop carrier. The measurements provided on the Q&A section about the bracket were exactly correct and dispelled any concerns I had.

Yes. I’ve used it numerous times since buying the bracket and it has performed great.
Somehow, one of the Ubolts for my cartop carrier had went missing when we were to install it on my Sons Minivan for his vacation. I ordered hoping it would 1) arrive in time and 2) fit my cartop. It arrived in a few days and was identical to the missing Ubolt. Thanks Etrailer!

I received a damaged envelope type package that only had three of the U bolts, the fourth must have slipped out somewhere on the way. I emailed etrailer on a Sunday and received a same day promise to ship out the missing U bolt. It arrived in a box instead of an envelope like the first shipment. It was stuffed with packaging and the box was taped up very well. They obviously wanted to make sure the bolt wasn’t lost in the mail again and I appreciate it. I’m very happy with the customer service and will order from them again.

I got an email from etrailer asking for a followup on the last day of a trip from Houston to New York and back and the U-bolts held up perfectly. I didn’t have to tighten or adjust them at all for the entire trip and I never took the cargo shell off the roof for my 2 week stay so there was a mix of highway and in-town driving. These are great parts and etrailer has always had excellent customer service in my experience.
Perfect! Just what I needed!
I bought these to replace the ones on my old Thule sidekick. After leaving the original ones inside the carrier in storage they became so rusted I could no longer thread the wingnuts on. Fortunately Thule still makes these replacement parts and etrailer not only carries them, but shipped them the same day. I had the replacement parts with plenty of time to spare before my trip. I now store the hardware in my basement instead of the shed and they show no signs of rusting anytime soon a year later.
We lost one of these on an older model of SportRack clamshell carrier. So happy this is the exact piece we needed. Fast response and shipping. Glad to find this site.
