Video Transcript for Review of the Replacement Stay-Put Cradle for Thule Parkway and Roadway Bike Carriers

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the replacement Stay Put Cradle for Thule Bike Racks. This unit is designed to replace one Stay Put Cradle for your Thule Roadway, Parkway, Hitching Post Pro and Passage Bike Racks. It's made from a very durable plastic construction of black and color. The tube right here has a diameter of 1". It is designed to work with the optional Anti-Sway Cage that would keep bikes from moving front to back during transport. It's a really nice design.

The optional Anti-Sway Cage, if you don't have one, it is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. I also want to point out that the unit has these deep channel guides. These are going to guide the cables that run underneath the top tube frame of your bike. And so these cable guides provide an area for the cables to rest that keeps your bike cables safe and secure and keeps them from rubbing the frame of the bike during transport. The strap that goes over the bike frame is not included.

And installation is pretty easy. You simply need to remove the old cradle from the arm and slide the new one into place. That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement Stay Put Cradle for Thule Bike Racks.

WOW!! Super fast delivery-- thanks for the upgrade.

by:

Good product, fast shipping and fair price.

by:

Fits perfectly on my old Parkway rack as a replacement cradle.

by:

everything is perfect now i don't have to buy a new bike rack for my car

by:

These are some really good cradles! And, they fit my Bell bike rack that I got from WalMart a few years back!

by:

Very pleased. They firmly slide on the one inch bike tubing and being tapered they stay put while traveling. Great price. Better than buying a new bike rack.

by:

Before ordering, I called etrailer to make sure of the diameter (1") of the hole to match my rack. the info was correct and the shipment arrived promptly as ordered. I like the follow up survey.

by:

Here are the pictures....

What a great improvement on an already good design. With the addition of the ability of adding the Anti-Sway Cage and the change from the square holes to the round holes of the holding strap, my feeling of security has increased 110%!! Keep handling this company's products! Also, I like your response to customer's availability of parts previously not in your inventory and your shipping as soon as possible!! Keep up the good work!!

by:

I have an old Thule bike rack, the only problem was the straps and cradles were breaking. A comparable new 4-bike rack would cost around $200. This was a much cheaper option, and the turnaround time on my order was really fast. thanks again.

by:

No more watching my rear view mirror while driving.
With my straps and cradle I now feel safe knowing that bike is secure.

by:

Just what was needed to repair my very old Thule bike carrier. Delivery was very prompt and product worked very well.

Thanks, Bob

I purchased these bike rack saddles for an older Bell rack. The original saddles had rotted. They fit the 1" rail fine with a little lube. The i=only issue I had, which is not an issue with the product, is that the flanges are fairly rigid and I needed to rest one on the upper rear fork behind the seat post, which is too wide. My solution was to rotate that saddle to fit the seat post and let the fork ride on the side of the saddle. By running the strap over the fork, the bike remains solidly connected.

Still working great.

by:

The cradles are perfect but getting them on was the hardest thing! Tried water and it helped only barely. I didn’t want to use silicone spray or WD-40 because I thought it would may them slide around. They almost seemed like the diameter of the opening was too small by a couple of millimeters. But now that they are on they are fine.

by:

Fit perfect on very old tule bike rack.

by:

Seems to be same quality as original part. Packaged well. Picture shows old parts, new parts, and installed. Look forward to trying this weekend!

by:

Great product. Arrived quickly. Amy was very helpful with choosing the right part and number. Would use etrailer again if in need of anything they sell

I have a 15+ year old Thule hitching post bike rack with 1" tubing. One of the cradle straps broke and I've been looking for a replacement. REI couldn't help me. I looked on Amazon but found what I wanted on etrailer.com for under $10. The old cradle had an integrated strap (bad design). I bought the 853-7887 cradle and a separate strap (852-3006-001). Worked great. It took a bit of elbow grease and wd-40 to wiggle it into the tubing. But it'll work just fine.

by:

I needed replacement parts for my Thule Apex 9027 (my best friends dog went to town on all the non-metal parts of my bike rack). Thule told me they do not make replacement cradles for this rack - it would have been a waste to have to buy a new rack. So I tried etrailer. I initially ordered the wrong size cradle (ordered for a 1 inch tube, needed for a 1 1/4 inch tube). Matt at etrailer was more then helpful. He helped search for the right cradle, pulled it from stock and called me back to make sure it sounded like the right fit!!
Who does that anymore??? EXCELLENT customer service!!!
This part worked perfectly! No need to spend $100's of extra dollars on a new rack.

by:

I received the replacement Thule bike rack parts and they fit perfectly. The delivery was quick and items were as described, direct replacement, easy to install and very good price. Attached is picture of the replacement cradles and straps on the Thule Parkway carrier.

Thanks again, will definitely buy from etrailer.com again.

by:

Old Thule rack was getting kinda ratty looking, particularly the original rubber cradle/straps. These replacements are going to extend the life of my rack for years to come. As many people say they are hard to get on(deadblow followed by a touch of lubricant), but once in position they definitely look like they're there to stay. I've already ordered four more and a full complement of antisway cradles + straps to finish out my 4 bike rack. Etrailer shipping was quick and their customer service is solid.

by:

I do love these cradles and they worked fine for me AFTER a bit of alterations. So the 4 I ordered and received 9/15/17 DID NOT fit on the 1" pipe that my bike rack has equipped. Granted my rack isn't a Thule, these cradles are designed and claim to accommodate 1" diameter pipes all the same. So if you zoom in on the product pic on this website you can see the hole dimension shows 1" in diameter and SMOOTH. What you DON'T see are the ridges that are inside the hole of the cradles that I received, making that 1" diameter SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. Small enough to NEVER fit on a 1" tube. How do I know? Because I had to grind them off considerably for the cradles to even start go slide on. I did leave about 1/3 of each of the grooves on so the fit was tight enough to not slide around. So be warned, you may have to modify if you do receive these with the ridges inside. I used an oscillating spindle sander with 7/8" bit and I targeted each ridge individually as opposed to a 1" bit that would probably take too much off. Here's a pic. Unfortunately, I didn't think to take pics of the ridges prior to sander them off.

by:

I used these to retrofit an old Thule Metro trunk rack that just had plain arms without cradles. It took some serious twisting and wrenching to get the cradles past the bend in the arms, but it can be done. These cradles plus the Anti-Sway Cage (853-7758) are a great upgrade. They keep the bike well away from the car and seem very secure.

by:

Easy to remove, I would recommend spraying the shaft with soapy water to install the new one

by:

These cradles fit so tight it takes 20 minutes to change one !!! Maybe that's why they call them no slip hahaha. They're not going anywhere lol. Perfect for the older bike racks

  • Wider And Flatter Replacement Cradle Option For A Thule Roadway 4-Bike Carrier
For your Thule Roadway 4 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches TH914XT, which is no longer available, I recommend replacing your current Stay-Put Cradles # 853-7887 with the: -Replacement T2 Cradle Body for Thule Bike Carriers # 853-5829. You are also going to need different straps # 753-3535 for the new cradle as the old ones aren't compatible. This cradle is wider and flatter and should be a great fit your Trek Domaine.

  • Replacement Hitch Bolt for a Thule 515 0109 4-Bike Rack
I spoke to my contact at Thule and she informed that the number you listed isn't a part number, but that based on that she could tell about how old your rack is and what would be the correct part you are looking for. The replacement bolt you need to secure the bike rack to your hitch is the part # 908-1240-54.

  • Frame Cradle and Anti-Sway Cradle Recommendation for Allen Bike Rack with 1 inch Arm
The # 853-7887 is designed to fit a 1 inch diameter tube. Since the arms of your rack are 1 inch in diameter this cradle would work, and then for a strap you could get the part # 852-3006-001. For a anti-sway cradle you would want the part # 853-7758.

Good news! I can help you revive your Thule Bike Rack. It looks like you have a Thule Parkway. The replacement original cradles for this rack look quite a bit different than the ones in your image, so they must have been replaced previously, with something other than the Thule cradle. The replacement cradle for the Parkway is the # 853-7887 and the rubber strap for that cradle is the # 852-3006-001. If you wanted to you could upgrade these Thule cradles with an anti-sway cradle # 853-7758,...

However, I can definitely say that you do have a Thule rack due to the design and cradles you have on the arms.
