Thule Apex XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

Note: The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the face of the hitch must be 1-1/2" or greater to use this rack.

Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorhomes - not approved for fifth wheels or towable campers

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack

The Apex Swing XT is the same premium hitch-mounted rack as the standard Apex XT, but with a huge upgrade. You can swing the Apex Swing XT away from your vehicle - with bikes loaded - for easy access to your rear cargo area. It has fold-up anti-sway cradles and ratcheting straps that make it easy to load and unload your bikes. The cradles are set 7" apart, so there's enough space between your bikes to prevent them from becoming tangled on the rack. It also has a hand knob and integrated cable with keyed-alike locks that secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Swing-Away Design

Thule Apex Swing XT 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Swing Away Design

The Apex Swing XT has a hinged arm at the base that lets you completely swing the rack away from the rear of your vehicle with your bikes still loaded. This eliminates the need to unload the bikes or remove the rack to get to your stowed cargo. To open the hinged arm, simply pull up on the spring-loaded pin, loosen the hand knob and swing it away from your vehicle.

Folding Dual Arms with HitchSwitch Lever

Thule Apex Swing XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Dual Arms with HitchSwitch Lever

The Apex Swing XT has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support and ground clearance during transport.

Thule Apex Swing XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Switch Lever

The HitchSwitch lever lets you fold the arms down when not in use.

HideAway Anti-Sway Cradles

Thule Apex Swing XT 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

The Apex Swing XT has HideAway anti-sway cradles that secure each bike twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This reduces rocking to help eliminate bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact. The soft rubber cradles rotate around the arms to accommodate your bikes' frames. Each cradle is set 7" apart on the arms, so there is more space between your bikes when compared with many other hanging-style racks. The added space helps prevent your bikes from becoming tangled on the rack.

Thule Apex Swing XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Grooves

The cradles have grooves on the surface that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Thule Apex Swing XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Cradles

Durable, dual-molded ratchet straps hold your bikes firmly in place on the cradles. You can remove the lower straps and fold the cradles up against the arms to make it easier to slide your bikes onto the rack.

Tool-Free Installation

Thule EasyFold XT

The knob at the front of the shank lets you quickly and easily install the rack. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. The knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. It also sets the integrated SnugTite hitch pin into place, securing the rack to your receiver.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Thule Apex Swing XT 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

The Apex Swing XT includes One-Key System locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The integrated cable lock threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock at the end of the left arm. The cable stores inside the mast when not in use.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

The lock on the hand knob secures the rack to your vehicle. The hand knob will spin freely when locked so a would-be thief can't operate it to remove the rack from your hitch. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for both locks. Additional One-Key System locks (sold separately) let you make all of your Thule products keyed alike.

Video Transcript for Thule Apex Swing XT 4 Bike Rack Review

Jake: Jake here with etrailer. Today, we're going to take a look at and I'm going to show you some of the cool features on the Thule Apex Swing XT 4 Bike Rack. This is going to be a hanging-style bike rack that's going to get your four bikes safely to and from the trails. Now, my favorite part about this bike rack is that I'm not going to lose any functions of my vehicle that I might use frequently when out on the trails. You can swing it open and use your car as you will. The main thing that's going to set this bike rack apart from others is that it's going to swing away from your vehicle rather than tilting away. A lot of bike racks that tilt away you can't tilt them away with your bikes loaded.

Thule designed this bike rack so that you can keep your four bikes loaded. You won't have to unload them to gain rear hatch access. So even when a bike rack does tilt away from your vehicle, you're going to have the bike rack still directly behind the vehicle. So you can show that it can fully open, and there's nothing in the way here to impede us from using our vehicle like we would without a bike rack. If you need to sit down on the rear of your vehicle to put your biking shoes on and gear up for your ride, you can still do that. You're not sacrificing anything by having your bike rack on your vehicle. So what's really cool about when it opens up all the way, you're not going to have to worry about it swinging back if you're on a slight incline because it has a locking pivot point.

So when you open it all the way, you're not going to be able to pull the bike rack back into the closed position. If you're on that slight incline where your vehicle's facing up, it's going to lock your bikes on the right corner of your vehicle. It'll lock here and here at the front pivot point.Another nice thing about this bike rack is that when tilting a bike rack away from your vehicle, you're going to have to lift the four bikes back up to lock it into place, which can be a lot of weight. For example, this bike rack can hold about 37 pounds per bike, which is close to 147 pounds. That's a lot of weight to exert yourself to lift up to snap it back into place, whereas on this bike rack you can see that it's virtually effortless to swing it back into place. Now, when it comes to safety while on your trip, you want to make sure your bikes are safe when you're not attending them.

If you have to run into a store or something to get some groceries for your crew, you want to make sure your bikes are going to be safe in the parking lot while you're not there. On this bike rack, you're going to have two different points of security. A cable lock you'll see here that locks up at the end. To secure all of your bikes, it'll stretch out of this center post over all your bikes' top tubes and into the end of the two support posts. That'll lock your bikes to the bike rack. Here's how you lock your bike rack to your vehicle.

You lock this knob up and the knob will freely spin, so that nobody can loosen your bike rack from your vehicle and take the whole thing. So with your bike rack you're going to get two keys; that way you can keep one in each vehicle or you can have multiple people have them. You're going to have them keyed alike to both the cable lock and the hitch lock. So with the combination of the cable lock and the hitch lock, you know that your bikes are going to be locked to your rack and that your rack is going to be locked to your vehicle. With any hanging-style rack, you may have a little bit of bike-to-bike contact depending on what style bikes you have. You can see we have four completely different style bikes on our rack just to show the variation of bikes that you can carry with this. The cradles are 7" apart from each other center on center, so that is quite a bit more than other carriers are going to have. If you have four of the same style bikes, such as four road bikes, they many fit a little better. With a hanging-style rack, you may need to pick up a bike adapter for any bikes, like our kids bike here, with an irregular frame. It's not quite large enough to carry our bike inside this gap, so we had to use a bike adapter bar. We do have plenty of those here at etrailer. Now with some of our bikes removed, you can take a better look at what our straps and our cradles look like. On the inside of our straps, you're going to have these rubber strips that are going to not only grip your bike so that your bike doesn't move around too much, but it's going to make sure the top of your top tube is not damaged by the strap. On our cradle, you're going to have these integrated grooves, there'll be three of them, to help to preserve and not damage your brake cables. So your brake cable will sit down in that groove and be okay. Now, for each bike you're going to have an anti-sway cradle. This is going to keep your bikes from making too much contact with each other when driving down the road. Now, one thing I like that Thule did is you can pull these straps out of the anti-sway cradle, if you're not using them, and fold them up and clip them into place, and then they're out of your way. For safely securing your bike, you're going to have two straps that cinch down on your top tube to keep it locked into the cradles, and then one on your down tube. This is going to be our anti-sway to keep that bike from shaking too much.We can go ahead and unload our bike to take a closer look at some more features. Now, one tip I would give you guys is that it's a lot easier to get the bike off if your straps are not up like this. So you just want to cinch them down to get then out of the way, so that you can slide your bike off. We'll go ahead and remove our bike. And you could set your bike to the side.So anytime using a hitch-mounted accessory, you are going to have added length to your vehicle. From the center of our hitch pin to the outermost point of our bike rack is going to be about 40", so that's quite a bit of space you've added to the back of your vehicle. Now, we can conserve on some of that space by tilting this down to our vehicle by pulling up on this lever up on the top and that's going to cut it down to 15". So that's going to be very, very important for when parking in a parking garage or in your personal garage at home. Our closest point is going to be our tightening knob. That's going to be about 7" from the center of the hitch pin hole. When placing this in your vehicle, it's going to be very, very simple. You're not going to have to have any tools to install it, unlike all those anti-rattle bolts that you're going to have to tighten down to take away the shake and play. Our bike rack does come in at about 42 pounds, so it's not too heavy to get into place. You want to slide it into place with this automatic pin open, pop that pin down into place, and then slide it in and lock that pin in. I always like to pull out a little bit till that pin touches the further part of the hitch pinhole. Then when tightening it down, simply turn the knob and you'll feel it slowly getting tighter and tighter. What you'll need to do to get all that play out, you want to shake the bike rack back and forth just so you can get all of the play out. There you go.Our shank is going to be a 2" x 2" shank, so it's only going to work for your 2" x 2" hitch receivers. One thing I really like that Thule did is they went the extra mile and they put this lip on the back to deflect anything you may bottom out on from hitting your knob.I will like to point out with any vehicle that has a rear-mounted spare tire, you may have some issues with clearing the top of our first pivot point. So you can see we have an extended hitch on our Jeep Wrangler; that's helping us get our rack out past our spare tire. So even though we can fit the rack, we still can't operate it because when we open up the rear door, it hits that knob. So if you really like the Apex Swing, you may have to remove your spare tire in order to use it.We'll go ahead and show you how it performs on our test course. First up is going to be our solid speed bumps. This is going to represent going in and out of your driveway or going over a speed bump in a parking lot. Next is going to be our alternating speed bumps. This is going to represent going through a pothole or a bump in the road. Now, next onto our slalom, this is going to represent driving down a winding back road or making evasive turning. Well, guys, with all that being said, that's going to do it for our look at the Thule Apex Swing XT Bike Rack.

Assembled the rack today. I haven't used it for any trips yet. It is very difficult to get the two major pieces to align so the bolt can be installed. I was finally able to get it to work. 704128

Received the product in good condition and install was quite straightforward. The rack is solid and the fact that all critical points allow for adjustment and tightening via knob vs needing tools is indeed a plus. It fits snugly in my receiver and tightens down for zero movement on our Subaru Ascent. I’ve yet to load bikes but I can already tell its much better than our previous Saris rack. There was only one install issue - make certain you place the right locking mechanism into the proper lock. I don’t know why but it uses two separate keys - and the single key lock is the one that goes into the hitch receiver knob - and the instructions were slightly ambiguous on cautioning for that. Overall it’s heavy duty and should last year’s. 663208

Best solution is to replace the hitch you have on your 2019 Honda Passport that has the shallow hitch pin with the Draw Tite part # 76290 which is a confirmed fit and will let you use any bike rack you want like the Thule Apex Swing part # TH9027XT you referenced. Based on my research, the Thule Apex Swing TX # TH9027XT will allow the rear doors to partially open on your 2020 Winnebago Travato with a 2019 Ram Promaster chassis. The distance from the center of the hitch receiver to the upright mast on the Apex Swing when fully swung out is approximately 33 inches and from what I was able to find online each door on your Promaster is just under 37 inches wide. Therefore, you will be able to gain decent access to the back of the van but you will...

I recommend starting by just taking a look and ensuring the anti-rattle device of your bike rack is functioning properly and in good working order, and if it is, we do have a great solution. • Weight Capacity and Bike Rack Options For 2018 Nissan Rogue
In that question, the customer may have been referring to the towing capacity of their vehicle being a maximum tongue weight of 110lbs. That information can be found in your owners manual. So even if Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75902 has a 3,500 pound towing capacity and 350 pound tongue weight capacity, the towing capacity of the vehicle takes precedent. So the lowest of the two numbers is what you go with in regards to towing capacity. So please check the towing capacity...

  • Comparing the Yakima FullSwing Y02465 and Thule Apex Swing XT TH9027XT
The Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack part # Y02465 and Thule Apex Swing XT 4 Bike Rack part # TH9027XT are essentially two different manufactures version of the same bike rack. I personally prefer the FullSwing a bit more as it has a higher weight capacity of 40 lbs per bike and the spacing between the bike can be adjusted. That said, if you need something a bit lighter than the Apex Swing XT is a perfect alternative at only 42 lbs.

  • Trailer Hitch and Thule 4-Bike Rack Recommendation for 2015 Acura RDX
First let's start with a hitch for your 2015 Acura RDX. For that I recommend the Draw TIite part # 75784 as it is a 2 inch hitch size which means it has plenty of capacity for a bike rack and is also the size most 4 bike racks are made to fit. My 4-bike Thule rack to recommend is the Thule Apex Swing part # TH9027XT because it can carry up to 4 bikes and can swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle to give you complete access to the rear cargo area with bikes loaded. The arms...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to Carry Bike Rac
For your 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe the trailer hitch I recommend for carrying a 4 bike rack is the Draw Tite part # 75908 which is a confirmed fit and has more than enough capacity. What really sets this hitch apart from the Curt that also fits your vehicle is the fact it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap with a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt does. Now to carry a bike rack you do not need trailer wiring, but if you want trailer wiring still the 4-way kit...

  • Can Tilting Feature of Thule Apex XT 4 Bike Rack be Used with Bikes Loaded
When using the tilting feature for the Thule Apex XT # TH9025XT you need to first remove the bikes. The only way to keep the bikes loaded so you can gain full rear access to your 2017 Toyota Highlander is to use the Thule Apex Swing XT # TH9027XT. This is the exact same bike rack but it has an arm that swings the upright and arms out to the side of the vehicle as you can see in the attached photo.

  • Hidden Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Outback Touring for Carrying Bike Rack
If appearance and being flush with the bumper are your biggest hitch priority for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon the best solution is the Draw Tite part # 76227 which only has the hitch opening hanging below the rear bumper which is flush with the bumper. See attached picture. Otherwise the Draw Tite part # 75673 you mentioned would work great too. It will be a bit more visible since the crosstube does hang down below the rear bumper as well. The distance it is recessed from the rear...

  • Trailer Hitch for 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport to Open Rear Hatch with Tilting Bike Rack
Take a look at the picture I have included showing the location of a hitch installed on a 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. We don't have an exact measurement but you can see the face of the receiver is about flush with the rear bumper and the pin hole is back only another couple of inches. But if you go with Curt hitch # C13243 then Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their...
