Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Replacement Shock for Dexter Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan replacement shock for the Titan model 6 and model 10 brake actuators. This part will allow you to replace a worn out or damaged sock on the Titan model 6 or model 10 brake actuators. The collapsed length, this is in the collapsed position, which is measured center to center, on this shock is going to be right at 6 inches. When you pull this out all the way, the extended length would measure 8 1/16. Now the inner diameter of the rings right here on the smaller one is 0.63 inches, from the larger one is 0.9 inches. The diameter of the outer body is 1.63 inches.

That should do it for the review on the Titan replacement shock for the Titan model 6 and model 10 brake actuators.

Nothing better than new shocks...

by:

it arrived fine! good job! packed correctly!

by:

Part was exactly what I need. Very fast delivery. I will do business again.
Thanks.

by:

This was an identical match from my Dexter Model 6 on my M1102 trailer

by:

Perfect replacement for the damper on my m1101 trailer brake unit. The old one was much easier to collapse by hand. Trailer seems less jerky and brakes work well. Shaft on both old and new does not return to full extension.

Use 5/8 deepwell socket on rear bearings and damper ring to maintain alignment until pin can be inserted.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback Jeff, this is valuable insight. I was curious about the m1101 trailer, so I looked into it and it seems pretty versatile. Were you in the military?

by:

Bought to put on Brent grain wagons. They worked great and price was way better than implement dealer.

by:

nice items, very fast shipping and communacation was great!!

Just replaced this on a Titan SurgeOMatic 6 hydraulic actuator on a 1997 EZLoader trailer rated at 7000 lbs 24-25 foot boat. The shock has same dimensions buts looks to be generic import. Orginal shock was a Gabriel. Cannot comment on the quality until I use it a while.

Excellent product description

Shock has held up well now that it’s over a year old. Thnx etrailer.com !!

by:

everything was as I expected,

by:

Easy to install on my factory trailer for my 2004 Four Winns Horizon 230. Greatly reduced the "pull-away thump".

Note: a short length of 3/4" copper water pipe was really helpful for holding the shock and the two "rollers" in alignment while positioning the shock and installing the pin that holds the big end to the trailer.

by:

This was to replace broken hydraulic shocks on a boat trailer with surge brakes. They went in smoothly and were easy to use in order to manually bleed the brake lines.

by:

We needed to replace the shocks to make our trailer breaks work. We went on line and found Etrailer.com. What a find. First - Carla is a great asset to the company. She knows her stuff and made it a pleasure to work with her. With Carla's help we found the parts we needed, ordered them and on schedule they arrived. The trailer is up and running again. Fyi - Yes we did some price checking and found the parts locally but the price was almost 3Xs as much. Etrailer.com is at the top of my list for any future parts I might need for my company. Thank You Etrailer.com

by:

Fit right into place. Buy an adapter for it to get from the 1/4" pipe thread at the rear of the master cylinder to the flare fitting of your brake line! Mine is 3/16 flare . The adapter from the old master c was different. Used a crescent wrench on the breakaway lever to bleed.

by:

shocks are junk! worse than the ones that I took off.

I am sorry to hear about your experience with these shocks initially. We will reach out shortly and see if there is a better option for your setup.

by:

better than original, thanks for speedy service
I am rebuilding a special built trailer made in 1973 for a Sea Camper Boat Will try to send picture of boat and trailer when restoration is complete. Just received tandem brake line kit

by:

Was redoing brake system on trailer. Ordered this replacement shock. Came in timely manner-- perfect fit. So far 1 year later still working great.

by:

This shock was for m1102 military trailer and I thought it would be next to impossible to find but e trailer had in in stock and delivered in a few days.

by:

Had been having difficult time finding the drum brake shock until I found your site. Not sure they are new or not or have been sitting on shelf a long time because of appearance. Perhaps drum brakes are now a dying breed. But the shocks are what I need to get back on the road.

by:

Looks like a great unit but was wrong shock for my Atwood replacement which was obsolite. Wrong style.

  • Solution for Needing New Master Cylinder 1027100 and Damper for Titan Model 6 Actuator
Hey Jeff, we actually have the exact master cylinder you are looking for with the part # T1027100. Since you said you need a damper too the correct replacement shock is the part # T1242600. Damper is another word for shock by the way. For the price of these two components you are creeping into cost range that might justify replacing the entire coupler BUT these are the two most important components to an actuator and removing and installing a new one can be a bit of a chore so there's...

The Replacement Shock for Dexter Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators # T1242600 may work for you, but we do not carry the Gabriel brand, so the information available to me about their parts is limited. Basically, the # T1242600 will work as a replacement for a shock with the following dimensions: Extended length: 8-1/16" Collapsed length: 6" Inner diameter of mounting rings: 0.63" and 0.90" Outer diameter of body: 1.63"

The springs shouldn't need any adjustment and they should feel pretty tight by hand. Did you replace the shock? That's typically what causes the brakes to stick like you mentioned. • How the Shock Absorber Works on a Surge Brake Actuator
The Replacement Shock for Titan Model 6 and 10 Brake Actuators part # T1242600 only works one way. When the brakes are applied it eases the movement of the trailer forward onto the brake actuator. There is no return spring, the tow vehicle would then pull the actuator to reload the shock. For example, if the trailer was unhooked from the tow vehicle and you were able to depress the actuator, it would not extend back until manually pulled back out.
