Why Would Surge Brake Actuator Not Want to Release Brake Pressure When Driving Forward
Updated 08/11/2025 | Published 08/06/2025 >
Question:
When I check my surge brakes I lift the wheel off the ground and actuate the brakes with the screw driver method on the bottom of the actuator. The brake calipers release fine. When the boat is on the trailer and brakes get actuated the brakes seem to drag and heat up. Any ideas?

Hey Chuck, usually this is a shock problem with surge actuators. The shock isn't allowing the coupler inner member to go all the way forward and release the hydraulic pressure. We have replacement shocks but I would need to know which actuator you have so that I can pick you out the right one.
