Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Toyota Tacoma - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Toyota Tacoma, we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch, part number 75238. This Class III trailer hitch is going to be great for all of your hauling needs. It's going to work with ball mounts, trailers, bike racks and cargo carriers. It's got a 2 inch receiver, with a reinforced collar for extra durability. It has a 5/8 inch hitch pin hole, and the smaller hole, to the front, is for using a J pin. This can help reduce rattle on your devices when installed.

It has a loop style safety chain connection point with a large center. This will work with various size safety chains.Fully installed, it's going to tuck up nicely underneath your bumper. You're only really going to be able to see the receiving tube and safety chain connection point, so it won't detract from the look of the vehicle. It has a 1.050 pound tongue weight, which is the force downward on your receiving tube, and a 7,000 pound gross trailer capacity, which is its maximum hauling capacity. When using the weight distribution system, the tongue weight increases to 1,200 pounds, and the gross trailer weight increases to 8,000 pounds. To help you in deciding which accessories to use, such as ball mounts, bike racks and cargo carriers, I've got some measurements here.

From the center of the hitch pin to the edge of the rear bumper, it's going to be about 3 inches, and from the top inside edge of the receiving tube to the ground, it's going to be about 19 1/2 inches. Before we install our hitch, we want to do a little preparation on our vehicle. There's 4 weld nuts on your frame, 2 on each side. We're going to clean those out, so that way we don't have any galling or binding when we're putting our bolts in. Use some spray lubricant on the weld nuts, and then you can use a bristled brush. One like this can be found at etrailer.com with part number 814092.

Repeat this on the other side. With the weld nuts clean, now we can feed our coiled wire into the bumper tube. The center hole will have 2 holes, just on the outside of it, those are the holes we're going to be using. Go ahead and put the coiled end in first, and slide it to the edge of the bumper tube. Now that we've got it threaded through, slide on your spacer, and thread you your carriage bolt. Now we can feed that back through, and pull it down through the hole.

You're going to repeat this same process on the hole on the opposite side of your center hole. Now with an extra pair of hands, we're going to put our hitch into place. We need to put our fish wire down through the holes near our receiver, and we can lift it up. Once you've got your hitch put up in place, you'll take your bolt, and larger conical tooth washer, with the teeth facing up, and thread bolt in. Once you've got a bolt threaded in on each side, the hitch will hold itself up.Now, with it supported, you can get your other bolts into your weld nuts. After you get those in, we'll tighten them down to make it easier to install the nuts on our carriage bolts. Now we can go back and tighten up our hardware, using an 18 millimeter socket. Now we can thread off our coiled wire, put up your smaller, conical tooth washer with the teeth facing up, and thread on your nut. Do this for both bolts. Now we go back and tighten down your carriage bolts using an 18 millimeter socket. With everything snugged up, go back and torque all of your hardware to the specifications in your instructions. That completes our installation of the Draw-Tite Max Frame Trailer Hitch, on our 2017 Toyota Tacoma.

All parts fit perfectly on my 2019 Tacoma, including the trailer wiring connector HM11141144 which replaced the blank plug in my bumper, the Drawtite hitch 75238, and Tacoma wiring C56349 which connects to factory plugs. etrailer is absolutely the Best! 695361

Great product. Fit like a glove. Everything came packaged very well inside a big box, along with all the necessary hardware. Installation was a breeze and took me and my wife about half an hour to install it. She loves it. 643858

I was so excited when the package arrived and couldn't wait to install it on my truck. Product was exactly like the photo when I made the purchase. Installation was realitivley easy. Bolts attached directly to the frame on the underside of my 2016 Tacoma. I wanted to add the trailer hitch to my truck for the purpose of attaching my bike rack that inserts into the hitch and has the ability to carry 2 bikes. Before the hitch I would toss my bikes into the back of the bed of my truck. I would most certainly recommend this product to anyone who's considering purchasing a trailer hitch. The price was the best that I could find. Thanks Steve B. 237648

I received my tow receiver today and add a day earlier than expected (outstanding). The packaging had a few large holes however no real damage to report. I unpacked it, looked at the instruction provided and just under 20 minutes I had it installed. Recommend a floor jack to lift it if your by yourself. Looks great on the 2017 Toyota Tacoma. 477781

Hitch fit perfectly on my 2019 Tacoma and was easy to install. Did it by myself in under 30 min but required some bench pressing to hold it up as I put the nuts on the bolts. Looks great and the only part that is visible is the receiver tube. 652995

Very happy with my purchase! I ordered my Tacoma (as with many of my previous vehicles) as a base package deciding to install what I needed myself instead of paying for a lot of options I don't use just to get one or two I want. I am comfortable doing these types of installations, and of the items I've added to my vehicles throughout the years, this was one of if not the easiest. The hitch was very well made. ALL THE PIECES were there which I can't say for some on my projects! Everything fit and all holes matched perfectly. The actual hitch took about 10 minutes and the threaded cable they include to fish the bolts down the tube worked perfectly. I saved about $400 from the dealer doing the installation and about $300 from a local shop. Well worth 45-60 minutes of my time on a weekend. 513267

Both hitch and wiring harness were delivered on time, no problems. Hitch is well constructed for a mass produced item. All items needed for installation are included. It is a 2 man operation as the hitch is 45 lbs. We were very impressed with the on-line video (youtube) for our yr (2016) Tacoma. Was VERY impressed with “threaded” fish-wire included. That part was the easiest. Hardest part for us was lining up and installing the 4 bolts to the frame. Spacing was just a little off and we almost had to remove hitch and enlarge holes on hitch mounting bracket-to-frame. After several attempts, we were able to get all 4 bolts threaded. Wiring harness (flat-4) installation went well, just time consuming as we were in a driveway and didn’t have use of a full size lift. Only suggestion would have had truck-to-trailer plug coming out of Tacoma knockout box on bumper instead of hanging loose under bumper. You do need basic understanding/experience with hand tools and wire splicing/assembly to install both items even with inline videos. Hitch # 75238 Wiring# 118685 474789

I have installed 4 aftermarket trailer hitches from Curt to Draw Tite on 4 different Toyota Tacoma/4 Runners. This by far was the easiest install of them all. I installed this Hidden Hitch on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR 4x4 in probably 10 minutes. It took longer for me to get the tools out than to perform the actual install. The only unusual part were these long wires that helped you slip two bolts through a metal channel. Unlike older Tacomas you do not have to uninstall the 4 main bolts rather they are already unoccupied. The Draw Tite Receiver was not overly heavy and looks great on the back of my white Tacoma. The hitch itself arrived in large box with the hitch inside taped with all the hardware and instructions. If you are like me and bought the SR Tacoma this is a must have item for your truck! 524424

Product quality is excellent, exactly as described. What I like about etrailer's website is the inclusion of customer reviews and especially the videos to assist in installation. I have purchased many products over the years from etrailer and I'm very happy. If you need expert help you can call and the response is quick, accurate and friendly. Sorry, I have no photos! This Company was operating before [site] grabbed such a large market share and really set the bar high for web based purchasing. We all need to support these "smaller" Company's that deliver an excellent product or we will be left without any choices in the future. jim f 362826

2017 Tacoma, Great customer service, fast free shipping, good price, bolt pulling wires were great, my hitch was half of a bolt hole off when i tried to install with all of the mounting bolts loose, contacted etrailer, they said common occurrence and sent an email for ways to flex the hitch mounting brackets. Bottle jack and lumber flexed it enough for easy perfect fit. 422818

I received the product on the day it was said to arrive, the box itself was in pretty rough shape. However the product seemed undamaged, the trailer hitch was quick and easy to install even with just one person installing it. I will be using this new hitch to tow my new boat here pretty soon so I am excited to try it out! I couldn't be happier about finding etrailer.com, Nicholas C helped me through the process of making sure I got what I needed and that it works with my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. And it did so thank you ! 563797

This was an easy install on a 2019 Tacoma. I did it alone, without lifting the vehicle and without a jack to raise the hitch. Instead I used a couple of 5 gallon paint containers and pieces of wood to carefully position the hitch close enough that I could install the bolts. I used an anti-seize compound on the bolts in case I need to remove them later. The product itself is great—well constructed and finished, the holes match my vehicle, and the mounting hardware seems high quality. 728243

I received the well boxed Hitch yesterday ... Opened it this am and started to install it on my New 2019 Tacoma . The very first thing I did was to go onto you tube video priced by etrailer ! Started the bolts .. Got everything secured Done. The only thing I have to do is go over to my Motor head friends house and use his Torque wrench ! Thank You .. Good hitch, but recommend having a helping hand installing it as it is fairly heavy. I used a car jack to raise it and support it while I put the bolts in. Honest review here! I ordered this hitch on May 15th. Delivered and I had it on my truck Sunday morning the 19th. So what’s that? 4 days. I called my local install place they wanted to charge 299$ for this hitch and install. Said they had to take bumpers off. That’s a lie. I had this hitch on in 35 minutes. Hardest part was fishing bolts through bumper. And that was pretty easy. Would definitely order from etrailer again! 644051

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver, 7-Way Trailer Connector, and Brake Controller on 2017 Tacoma
  • Sounds like you're trying to build your own tow package on your new 2017 Toyota Tacoma. We can certainly help you with that. We'll begin with the hitch receiver. I suggest the Draw-Tite # 75238. It's a Class III, 2 inch hitch with a gross trailer weight of 7,000 pounds and maximum tongue weight of 1,50 pounds. Higher than a lot of Class III hitches. It's a fairly straight forward installation because it bolts right to your truck's frame. For a wiring harness to get power to your...

This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your truck and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. It features a 7,000 pound towing capacity and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening. I have attached an installation video on the 2017 model Tacoma that you can use for reference. This hitch is a simple no-drill bolt on install as shown in the linked video and the photo shows the clean appearance. It is a perfect match for the Taco's 6400-lb towing capacity. • Yes, the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75238 is a fit for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma. We have determined that the hitch fits from the 2016 Tacoma carry over to the 2017 model year as well. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2017 Toyota Tacoma
  • For your 2017 Toyota Tacoma, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75238. This hitch will come with the pull wire needed and all the hardware. This is a very strong hitch receiver with an e-coat base and powder coat finish. This is a confirmed fit for your truck and I've attached the installation details for you. For your wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118685. This custom-fit...

  • Difference Between Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitch for 2018 Toyota Tacoma
  • The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75238 and the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13264 for your 2018 Toyota Tacoma are indeed very similar Class III trailer hitches but there are a couple notable differences. Between the two options I recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75238 primarily because it features higher weight capacities than the Curt, indicating an overall stronger unit. The Draw-Tite Hitch has a 7,000 pound towing capacity and a 1,050 pound tongue weight limit compared to the 6,000/900...

  • Determining if 2018 Toyota Tacoma Can Pull McKenzie Starwood LE 28SKS Trailer
  • Based on my research it looks like the 2007 McKenzie Starwood LE 28SKS has a dry (unloaded) weight of 5,168 pounds and a GVWR (the most it can weight when fully loaded) of 7,800 pounds. I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Toyota Tacoma and found that the towing capacity for the Double Cab can vary between 3,500 pounds and 6,700 pounds depending on your exact model. Because of this large range I highly recommend visiting a local Toyota dealer with...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Towing Small Utility Trailer w/ 2016 Toyota Tacoma
  • I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # C13264, as it is the most reasonably priced (yet still strong) hitch fit available for your Tacoma. The Draw-Tite # 75238 actually has a higher towing capacity, but since the capacity of the hitches exceed the capacity of your truck, you'll be limited to the 3500 lb towing capacity of your tuck anyway. Since you'll be towing with your Tacoma, you'll need a few other items to complete your towing system: Trailer wiring harness, part #...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Toyota Tacoma
  • For a trailer hitch confirmed as a fit for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma you'd want to start with the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75238 which would fit and work well. It has more than enough capacity for a 2,920 lb pop camper like what you have. If you don't have trailer wiring you'll then need the T-One kit part # 118685 which is also a confirmed fit. I attached install videos for both of these for you to check out as well. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball...

  • Trailer Wiring for 2018 Toyota Tacoma
  • Good choice on the Draw-Tite hitch, part # 75238. I've linked an install video from when we put it on a 2017 Tacoma. The install is the same as your 2018. I recommend the Tekonsha wiring harness, part # 118685. It has a higher amp capacity than the Curt and they both install behind the truck's tail lights. Then you run a wire to the Tacoma's battery battery to power the converter and insert the included fuse. I've linked this install video as well on the same truck for you. If...

  • Will Installing Trailer Hitch w/High Tongue Weight Capacity Increase Capacity on 2016 Toyota Tacoma
  • Not exactly. If you were to install Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75238 on your 2016 Toyota Tacoma the tongue weight capacity of the HITCH would be 1,050 (1,200 with weight distribution). But the capacity of the truck would not change. The truck's various capacities are set in stone and cannot be changed. According to the 2016 Tacoma owner's manual the tongue weight capacity of the truck is up to 11 percent of the gross trailer weight. Depending on the exact configuration of your truck that...
