Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2022 Toyota Tacoma

What's up everybody, Adam, here with e-trailer. Today we have a 2022 Toyota Tacoma, and we're gonna be taking a look at the Draw-Tite Class III, two inch Trailer Hitch Receiver. Of all the ones on our website, this is gonna give you the most amount of capacity. The tongue weight is gonna have a max of 1050 pounds, and the overall trailer weight is gonna be about 7,000 pounds. We can use a weight distribution system with this, which will get our tongue weight all the way up to about 1200 pounds, and the overall trailer weight to about 8,000 pounds. But you do wanna check your owner's manual.

This thing kind of maxes out a little bit below 8,000 pounds, but just know, that this is the heaviest duty hitch that you can put on your Tacoma. Most of your accessories are gonna come with the pin, but if you do have to grab one, the diameter of the pinhole is about 5/8 inch in diameter. And then we do have some safety chain loops. And even with the big boys like this, they're gonna fit on there, nice and easy. So, you can grab whatever kind of safety chains that you have on your trailer, or just grab some here at e-trailer, and you're not gonna be limited at all.

This Tacoma is completely stocked, no lift and no big beefy tires. So, this might be a little different than yours at home. And from the inside top lip of the receiver to the ground, it's about 20 3/4 of an inch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the farthest part of our Tacoma rear bumper, it's about three inches, which is a good amount of distance. So, you don't have to worry about those bike racks not having to be able to fold up and hit your truck.

So, that's really nice to see with this hitch receiver. The hitch receiver's made a steel and it has an E-coat, but then it has a powder coat on top of it. Notice it is a glossy powder coated finish. So, if that's your style, go for it, but if you do wanna have a matte black finish, e-trailer does make one that is matte black. It's pretty much the same install throughout all of 'em, but when you go with any other hitch receiver compared to the Draw-Tite, we are gonna lose a little bit of capacity.

The install was super straightforward. So, we're gonna run you through the steps, so, you're gonna feel confident when you get the box at your house, so you can knock it out in 10 to 15 minutes. We have our Tacoma on the lift. You can do this in your garage or in your driveway. We're just putting it up on the lift so, you guys can see a little bit better. So, what we wanna do is grab one of these. This is a pipe cleaner for our threads. We can grab this at e-trailer if you don't have one. But the idea here is we just wanna get all that debris out inside our threads. So, there's gonna be one right here and then one back you here, and then we're gonna have the same thing on the other side. Just the fact that this is behind the tires, it's just gonna get a little bit of debris in there. So, clean it out real good, just to make sure we're not gonna be messing up those threads. We're gonna at the very back of your bumper, we're gonna have a series of holes. Two elongated holes, one big one in the middle, and then the two right here, that's what we want. So, this is the end goal. So, you're gonna take the little threaded portion right here, we're gonna slide that up, and then all the way at the end, outside of these two little bolts right here, there's gonna be a hole in the hitch, so, we're gonna fish that all the way through. And the fishing wire is not that long, so, you do want to make sure it's not gonna come out. Just kind of give it a good bend like that. And then, we're gonna take some hardware, we're gonna put this piece on. Now with our spacer block in first and then our carriage bolt, I'm actually gonna feed the spacer block in first, and then kind of feed this in as I start to pull. It should just slide right on down. We seem to have something in the way. So, we have another hole to kind of help us get to pass this little lip. We wanna pull this down, we kind of wanna rotate it and make sure that that carriage bolt is set within that spacer block. And then we can remove our fishing wire. On the driver and passenger side, we're gonna have two of the threaded portions that we cleaned out earlier, and we just wanna put a washer down here. And see these teeth, we wanna make sure that's gonna be facing up towards the hitch. If you have an extra set of hands grab 'em, if not, you can do this by yourself. So, let's hook this up into place. And we just want to get. Yeah, we can get this started in, just a couple turns, just to make sure that'll stay up on its own. And we do the same thing for the other side. I tightened these two bolts down just to let it flush with the frame, I've not torqued them down yet. But now that these are ready to go, we're gonna have that same washer. I'm gonna put that up. We wanna be extra careful that we don't push this through that hole, and we'll take our nut and thread that on. There's one more on the other side that we gotta do as well. We have two different socket sizes. We need 11 and 16 to tighten these down and then a 3/4 for the other big ones underneath here. So, let's go ahead and just kind of tighten these down so, we don't have to do all those turns with the torque wrench. We have two different size bolts, there's two different torque settings in our instructions. So, we start with one, and we wanna torque these down. If you don't have torque wrench, you gonna need one. We wanna make sure this is nice and installed properly, so, they don't come loose. Then we do the rest for the other bolts. That really only took me about 10 minutes to install. So, just do it in your garage or your driveway, just to avoid having to take it to a shop. And it was very, very easy. If you watch the video, you're gonna be able to do it just as quick as me, maybe quicker. And that's pretty much it, for our look at the Draw-Tite Class III, two inch Hitch Receiver on a 2022 Toyota Tacoma..

Very easy to install! Product was as described, and instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Easy to instated, great product , and fast shipping.

This hitch seems solid but should have never left the factory it was made in. Passenger side mounting bracket was welded off angle and bent about 1 inch out of alignment. Etrailer customer service was great in informing that product is made out of spring/flex steel and can be reshaped to fit and sent an email with suggestions of how to do it. With alot of work with a hydraulic jack and ratchet strap I was able to get the bracket aligned and the hitch mounted. etrailer shipping was fast. Product was well packaged and undamaged during shipping. As I said before, etrailer customer service was great. I may have gotten that 1 abnormal misshaped hitch that slipped past Draw-Tite's QC and others may be much better, (I never had this problem with Reese in years past) but based on this experience, I can't personally recommend this product. If I had to do it again I'd try the Curt hitch instead.

Great selection of products. Easy to navigate website and fast shipping. An overall wonderful experience. Oh - and the trailer hitch is top notch.

This hitch was a perfect fit on my '22 Tacoma SR (4-cylinders don't come with hitches though they can be added). The included fish wires for the bumper bolts were a great help. No reaming, no bending, everything lined up on the first try.

Comments
One year and several tows later, the hitch is fine. I switched to a 4 tow bar to level my utility trailer other than that, no change. Good receiver, works fine!

On your website you show videos of the receiver installation. Nothing shown about a receiver flexing during shipping. This 10 minute installation project took over 2 hours do to a flexed receiver. How often does this happen

Comments
I am sorry that the installation time as so long. It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

2023 Toyota Tacoma

My new trailer hitch was exactly as advertised. It bolted right on with no issues what so ever. I am a sixty year old man with a bad back, and I was able to do this install in less than 30 minutes.(with a little help from my 73 yr. old brother-in-law) I couldn't be more pleased. I installed the wiring with the Curt 4-post wiring harness the next day. It was a little more involved, although very straightforward with the process itself. The hardest part was fishing the power wire through the undercarriage up to the battery. It took me about 3 hrs.for the whole install, but that's because I'm slow. Overall I would recommend this product, it is exactly what it said it was and it arrived in two days of being ordered. Save yourself 150 to 200 bucks and do it yourself, it's very easy.

Overall the quality of the hitch seems good, but it took some grinding to get it to clear one of the frame gussets, and also took some washers to shim it properly under the two bumper bolts. I was a little bit surprised at this.

by:

Easy to order & easy to install. After much research y’all seemed like the best place & it seemed like the best hitch. Installed it the same day I received it. It took about a hour with no assistance. I’m 70 1/2 years old.

Well built and very happy with the hitch receiver one year since purchase.

This is a high quality trailer hitch. The pre drilled holes were placed perfectly and it literally just bolts right on. Installation video is fantastic and easy to follow step by step.

2016 Toyota Tacoma

I was so excited when the package arrived and couldn't wait to install it on my truck. Product was exactly like the photo when I made the purchase. Installation was realitivley easy. Bolts attached directly to the frame on the underside of my 2016 Tacoma.
I wanted to add the trailer hitch to my truck for the purpose of attaching my bike rack that inserts into the hitch and has the ability to carry 2 bikes. Before the hitch I would toss my bikes into the back of the bed of my truck.

I would most certainly recommend this product to anyone who's considering purchasing a trailer hitch. The price was the best that I could find.

Thanks
Steve B.

Both hitch and wiring harness were delivered on time, no problems. Hitch is well constructed for a mass produced item. All items needed for installation are included. It is a 2 man operation as the hitch is 45 lbs. We were very impressed with the on-line video (youtube) for our yr (2016) Tacoma. Was VERY impressed with “threaded” fish-wire included. That part was the easiest. Hardest part for us was lining up and installing the 4 bolts to the frame. Spacing was just a little off and we almost had to remove hitch and enlarge holes on hitch mounting bracket-to-frame. After several attempts, we were able to get all 4 bolts threaded.
Wiring harness (flat-4) installation went well, just time consuming as we were in a driveway and didn’t have use of a full size lift. Only suggestion would have had truck-to-trailer plug coming out of Tacoma knockout box on bumper instead of hanging loose under bumper.

You do need basic understanding/experience with hand tools and wire splicing/assembly to install both items even with inline videos.

Drawtite hitches are all I've ever used, the extra hole in the receiver for a j-pin stabilizer is the reason why. Anyone that has had a rattling bike rack or cargo carrier would appreciate the silence and security of a Drawtite receiver. Perfectly engineered for my Tacoma and easily installed in less than 1/2 hour.

by:

I received the package, a big box with all the components. The installation was very simple after watching the video. My 15 year old daughter helped me and it took us 20 to 30 minutes aprox to install it. I will be having a professional install the electrical connection even though it looks simple in the video, but my wife was pretty insistent that we need to pay somebody else for that. I appreciated how well informed I was by the seller in every step of the purchase after placing the order. So far, 5 stars!!

2017 Tacoma, Great customer service, fast free shipping, good price, bolt pulling wires were great, my hitch was half of a bolt hole off when i tried to install with all of the mounting bolts loose, contacted etrailer, they said common occurrence and sent an email for ways to flex the hitch mounting brackets. Bottle jack and lumber flexed it enough for easy perfect fit.

2019 Toyota Tacoma SR Access Cab with Utility Package 6' bed....I wasn't sure if I had the right hitch for my truck, it fits different models and I didn't see mine there, but Lori B at etrailer assured me it was. I live 2 hours away and could have gone and picked it up but they had it shipped to me and i recieved it the next day. via ups I attached the wires to the bolts and spacers to fish them thru like it shows on the paper, once that's done i moved on to the 4 main bolts. TAKE CARE to run the bolts up each hole to make sure the threads are clean. I have a linex undercoating and it wasn't easy cleaning out the holes, I managed to get a bolt started and then ran it back and forth a few times in each hole. the hitch doesn't weigh that much its easy enough to prop one end up on your leg and get a bolt started, once that's done get one on the other side. once I had those 4 in and snug i removed the wires for the last 2 but wasn't sure if there was enough threads to get the washer and nut on "look at the picture" there's a gap. so I put a nut on and snugged it up, then was able to do it right. all in all it was really easy to install. thank you etrailer, thank you Lori B.

2016 Toyota Tacoma

Really shipped quickly, good price, easy install. The only issue I had was that the 4 bolts that were to go into the welded nuts were the wrong size. I need to get 7/16" bolts, but all worked out because I got stainless steel bolts for a replacement at my local hardware store. which was the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. If I could have given 4.5 stars I would have.

Comments
Customer Service will be reaching out about the wrong hardware. Using another brand may void your hitch receivers warranty.

while it is still untested, I liked the price, the install was easy and would recommend this to others.

I received the product on the day it was said to arrive, the box itself was in pretty rough shape. However the product seemed undamaged, the trailer hitch was quick and easy to install even with just one person installing it. I will be using this new hitch to tow my new boat here pretty soon so I am excited to try it out! I couldn't be happier about finding etrailer.com, Nicholas C helped me through the process of making sure I got what I needed and that it works with my 2017 Toyota Tacoma. And it did so thank you !

2019 Toyota Tacoma

Excellent, very sturdy yet easy to install. A perfect fit for my little 2019 Toyota Tacoma SR 2WD, it took less than 30 minutes for my husband to install by himself. I will be buying from you guys again, I have my eyes on the running boards just can't decide which design to get that would match perfectly with my new rims and tires my husband is getting for me. Once I have my wheels then I will be able to decide which running boards to get from you guys. Thank you.
