Trailer is sitting a little bit higher in the front then the old Ram and will have to leave the tailgate open about 6 inches when it slides back but appears to have great clearance for tight uneven corners.
Just what I needed for my truck with the 6’bed. It doesn’t happen very frequently that I need to turn sharp, but if I do, this will make it easier and safer.

Great product
Bought this B&W Companion slider to fit into my 2017 RAM 3500 short bed. I thought very highly of the B&W Companion 5th wheel that was in my F-350 long bed for many years, and decided to stick with a proven product. This hitch is built to the same high quality standards I've experienced with the B&W product line. Very robust (which translates to very heavy) and extremely simple to set up and install in the truck. It is definitely a two person operation to get the base lifted into the back of the truck, but once it up there, it's a snap to get locked down for towing.
The only caution I will offer is that when the slider is in the rearward position, be VERY careful of terrain and grade changes when moving a 5th wheel. It is very easy to damage the top of your tailgate with the trailer pin box. Other than that, it is a supremely well built product that will last a lifetime if properly maintained.
Lastly, the customer service and support at etrailer was outstanding! They helped me located some hardware through B&W that was not included in the packaging (which was my fault for not reading the description). Highly recommend these guys too!

We bought this to fit our fifth wheel hitch to the new truck. Fits great. Easy for two (or more) people to take in and out and keep the whole bed usable. Like the original this thing is built like a tank. I have only used B+W but we have well over 10,000 miles on them with no real problems. I will now confess something to y'all: I don't slide it anymore! I got tired of getting out and sliding when I needed the turning range. So I have for the last 1,000 miles or so been leaving it back all the time. My truck weighs 9100 pounds empty and the trailer is only 14,000ish so the difference forward or back isn't really noticeable!
Etrailer had fast shipping and right product! Buy the B&W hitch and never look back! Built like a brick house which instills confidence this product will never let you down and never let go of your cargo. Do it!
Bought the Base only because my new Ram uses the OEM mounts instead of the Turnoverball style mount. This weighs more than the original Companion, but mated right up to my original Hitch Head perfectly.
The installation instructions allowed for easy installation. I've had this B&W slider base for 20K miles on a TurnoverBall mount, and I loved it. I got a new truck with OEM pucs, so I wanted to use them. The fifth wheel hitchh moved right over to the new base.

Youll want to be careful with the hitch slid rearward, as this can place the trailer pin weight behind the rear axle, which will diminish the tow vehicles steering and braking performance. The hitch should only be slid rearward during low speed maneuvering.
