Video Transcript for B and W Fifth Wheel BWRVB3405 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the B&W Replacement Slider Base for the B&W Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch. This has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now this part is the replacement base that will fit the B&W Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch. We do sell that separately on our website and that Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Hitch will give you the extra room you need when towing with the shark bed truck. This part is the hitch .. Is the slider hitch base and it's designed to give you 12 inches of slide front to rear so that you can have the extra room to maneuver your fifth wheel trailer. Now this part also can be removed by 2 people and once it's removed it'll give you a clean bed with no rails and since there's no mounting rails it means you can use your truck for more than just towing and the companion slider actually uses the B&W turn over ball under bed mounting system which would be just the opening, the one opening in the middle of the truck bed and you'll see this shank right here, this square shank that's designed to drop right into that turn over ball under bed system and it will lock it into place and then you can use it as a fifth wheel. Now this slider base it will automatically latch in both directions so you only get out of the truck once to move it into the maneuvering position and the sliding mechanism uses tight tolerances so it will move smoothly without any rattle.

Just to show you how this moves right now it's in the locked position, the handle is showing locked and it's in the locked towing position which means its closest to the truck cab or tow vehicle cab. When you want to move it into the maneuvering position you just push the handle up to unlock it and you can see as this slides to the maneuvering position, once you get there it will lock into that position so let's move 12 inches to the rear. When you're done maneuvering and you want to move it back to the towing position, again just unlock it and just slide it back and you can see once it slides into the towing position the 12 inches closest to the cab it will flip the handle and lock it into that position. Now you notice these pivot arms right here, they do have the polyurethane bushings on the top that's what your hitch handle will sit on. Now the Hitch Head we do sell separately on our website also. You pick the one that's designed to fit your application.

Now these pivot arms you can raise or lower and get 3 vertical height settings either 17 inches, 18 inches or 19 inches and you do that by mounting on the slider base, there's multiple rows of holes and then there's 2 rows of holes on the pivot arm so just by putting it in different positions you can gain those 3 hitch height settings. The hitch height is always measured from the truck bed to top of the hitch head and just to show you also, if you reverse the pivot arms you could actually gain extra cab clearance. I only put one bolt on this one over here just to give you an idea. You take that bolt out and we'll show you the shape of the pivot arm. You can see how it's got a shape to it so if it's this way you can see the bushings are sitting right back here. If you flip it over to this side, you can see it will move it a little bit, give you extra cab clearance by just reversing the pivot arms.

Depending on your application, how much clearance you'll need and what height you need, you can set it up to fit your application correctly. This is a very quick and simple installation, again as I mentioned the base will install in the ball hole of the B&W Turnover Under Bed Mounting system that's shanked underneath here I mentioned so you can either pull a goose neck or a fifth wheel using the same system. This is a steel construction, it has a nice gray powder coat finish over it for corrosion resistance. This part is made in the USA. The gross towing capacity is 20,000 pounds the tongue weight or pin weight capacity is 5,000 pounds. I mentioned the travel is 12 inches front to back.

I mentioned the hitch height depending where you put your pivot arms will be 17 inches, 18 inches or 19 inches. That should do it for the review of the B&W Replacement Slider Base for B&W Companion Slider Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with a 20,000 pound weight capacity.

The base for my hitch shipped quickly by freight. The delivery was able to drop it in the bed of my truck so I wouldn’t have to lift it in. Install was easy and I was able to pull my 5th wheel that day. Great product and great company. 584307

Purchased my second hitch from etrailer along with several other items and I had a small issue with one electrical plug that was taken care of immediately by etrailer. All of the staff I talked with especially Cathy T was more than helpful this is about the 6th item I have purchased and they are the first ones I turn to for solutions and serivce and prices A+ all the way 399301

Best choice for short bed trucks. You can make tight turns without hitting your cab with the trailer and doing $1,000s in damage. 519264

B&W makes a great hitch, however if you are in need of slider I think there are better options. The slide mechanism would bind and not slide. The unit is HEAVY. 652266

  • Recommended B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch Position for 2015 Chevy 2500 HD Short Bed
  • For your 6-1/2 foot bed on your 2015 Chevy 2500, the B&W Companion hitch you will want is the Companion Slider # BWRVK3400. The pivot arms should be as far to the back as possible for greatest clearance and the height will be dependent on the actual level towing king pin height of your trailer. I've attached the installation details to assist. For a short bed, a slider is always recommended because it will allow you the additional clearance (12 inches in this case) to allow easier...

This part is compatible with bed rails that have the industry standard attachment points. Please note that it is not meant to be used with truck beds shorter than 6' and is only compatible with fixed pin boxes. Installation instructions have been attached for you to reference.

  • Does B and W Patriot and Companion Hitch Head Fit Same Hitch Base
  • The Patriot head is different from the Companion head. I wish I could tell you they were interchangeable but they are not. You'd have to upgrade to a slider Companion hitch like part # BWRVK3400 if your plan is to install a Companion slider hitch in the bed of a truck with a B and W gooseneck hitch.

The only problem you would have is if by standard bed you mean 6-1/2' then you may not have enough clearance in tight turn situations and you could possibly damage the cab of your 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty. Some newer 5th wheels are coming out with a tapered nose design. If your 5th wheel has this then you could possibly get away with...

  • Can Head of B and W Companion Fixed Hitch also Fit on Companion Slider Base
  • You can take the head of your fixed B and W Companion hitch and install it on a B and W Slider base part # BWRVB3405 and you'd be set. But you might also consider how much easier it would be to resell a complete Companion hitch instead of just the fixed base. In that case it would be better to go with an entirely new slider Companion hitch part # BWRVK3400.

If that is currently how you have the hitch assembled or if you change it and there is still not enough clearance then you can install the slider base and use the same head that you already have. The slider base by itself is # BWRVB3405 rated for 20,000 pounds.

  • Can a Sidewinder Pin Box be Locked Out to Work with a B&W Companion Hitch in a 2016 Chevy Silverado
  • Sidewinders are not compatible with the B&W Turnover ball hitches that attach to a single point (gooseneck ball hole) in the truck bed. The reason is that a Sidewinder gets locked out at the hitch so the trailer turns back at the turret which is attached to the trailer. The force applied to the hitch can cause it to twist the gooseneck hitch which would require replacing the whole gooseneck hitch. A Sidewinder can be locked out to function the same as a regular pin box though. To do...
