This tailgate-lowering system is custom designed for your vehicle's factory tailgate cable. It uses a shock absorber as well as a ball-and-socket connection at the truck to make opening your tailgate smooth and easy.

Installs easy, but I’ve still not found a way to let the tailgate to open smoothly but those summers does help the tailgate from slamming down. I actually feel like the children is harder to lift but that was my concern it was the drop. Seems like the cylinder in the tailgate in the frame there’s just not enough room for everything and I’ve tried numerous things that I just can’t get it to open smoothly and the tailgate work perfectly before I started this overall accomplished what I want I just have to talk to tell you a couple times to get it to release

I reached out to Deezee about the stiffness you were experiencing with the tailgate. A possible solution is to remove the washer where the cable connects to the vehicle. This will create a little more room and allow it to lift or lower more smoothly. Also, they mentioned to make sure that the shock is installed correctly with orientation of the black shock on top. Please take a look at our installation photos on the product page to understand what I mean.

This product was purchased for its safety. Many times when my wife was opening the tailgate she found that it was hard to control it as it opened. For me it was not a problem but she loves. Along with the electric lock its been a nice upgrade.

Now when the gate is opened its a third of its travel before the shock takes effect. Maybe this year may have to replace the shock. It doesn’t seem to be getting worse at this point so time will tell.
Dave M - 02/08/2021Dave, Thanks for the review. I spoke with DeeZee about this late catching issue and it seems to be unusual. There is a slight "free-fall" at first, like with the review video around the 5 min 30 sec mark. If the fall is worse than that I would contact DeeZee about the 3 year warranty associated with the shock.

It smooth coming down, this is a safety plus, there was one bolt that had the locker set up, it would not seat itself on sheetmetal flush, had to work on this,

Installed this on my truck. Installation was fairly simple. I do have a couple issues though that I will have to work out. The top strut mount, the one where you attach the tailgate cable and the top of the strut to, it sticks out too far when the strut is attached. Therefore, it hits the tailgate just enough to hang the tailgate up when trying to lower it. My plan is to put a thinner washer in place of the supplied washer (which is the same thickness as the factory washer from Dodge. A thinner washing should cure it! Also, i installed the cable clip per the instructions 3 inches below the top of the tailgate cable, and immediately noticed it was not going to work. I shut the tailgate, it pinched in between the strut and the tail light lens. Upon opening the tailgate, it popped itself off the cable. So I just kept it off and it works better without the clip anyways. With the clip, there's potential for it to damage the side of the tail light lens or get hung up elsewhere in the process. Other than those issues, it will work great!

Works great the only thing is the little ball where the shock attaches to the tailgate keeps on loosening up even with locktite almost like it's wobbled out. Stopped the tailgate from falling on my 6 year old daughter when she decided to try and open the tailgate

Love this thing! Took about 20 minutes to install. Tailgate drops slowly and in a controlled fashion -perfect for when one hand is full or a smaller person is opening the bed area. Takes the weight from opening the tailgate and looks totally bad-ass when in use! And the price can’t be beat.

Awesome beyond expectations. I wish I had this in place years ago. I modified template a little. I drilled hole in frame 1/4 inch toward the inner edge. I then moved point B over a 1/4 also. This should be standard on all tailgates.

I've got a wonderful Dodge 2006 Ram diesel that I dearly love, but the tailgate is seriously heavy and always required you put down anything in your hands in order to open it safely, as you had to guide it down to prevent a real crash. This kit has to be the best thing I have ever added to it. The difference in utility just amazes me, and rewards me every day, as I use the truck bed for things now I would have stuffed in the back seat before. What bang for a buck!

I love this tailgate lowering system. My tailgate on 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 is heavy and I don’t have to worry about it slamming down when the kids open it. It was also an easy and quick install!

I installed the (DZ43300) in my Ram 1500, it has made a incredible difference in the opening of my tailgate. Before using the DZ, I had to hold the gate from dropping how it just glides open. The install was very easy as well, I just followed the instructions that came with it. Handy tip, be sure to use some kind of penetraiting oil before you try to loosen the bolts on the tailgate, this will help make your install go much smoother. I recommend this product to anyone who uses there a lot and hates a heavy tailgate.

I put this on my sons dodge truck and It works great when you lower the tailgate, but when you try to close the tailgate it gets stuck between the tailgate and the tail light so you have to have both hands free to tuck it back into place. I have tried to make adjustments more times than I can count to no avail.
I have one on my dodge truck and it works perfectly.

To help the cable from getting stuck when closing the tailgate try using a thinner washer on the truck side. That will free up some space so the cable will have room.

i installed both the lowering system and ez lift on my 2003 dodge. love both products. had to modify the lowering system by taking off the washer where the shock clips on to get enough clearance. the tailgate kept knocking the shock off. this caused me to have to take off the cable on that side as well. love the ease it gives me though and both systems work well together!
