I have a solution for you.
The DeeZee Tailgate Assist Custom Tailgate-Lowering System for Pickup Trucks # DZ43300 is not a compatible fit for your 2000 Toyota Tundra.
However the Hopkins EasyLift Truck Bed Tailgate Lift Assist # 74211 will work with and do a great job.
I like this style of tailgate assist better because it is almost invisible and it is tucked out of the way and you will not be able to damage it easily.
It uses a torsion bar in stead of a piston to help lower and raise the tail gate. You don't have to worry about seals leaking are failing or a bent rod.
