Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs - not approved for fifth wheels, motorhomes, or towable campers

The Freedom gives you the liberty to rapidly load and safely transport 2 fat bikes on your vehicle's 1-1/4" or 2" hitch. This compact, platform-style rack has wheel trays that are specifically designed for fat bike tires. And it's easy to use and weighs just 22.5 lbs, so you'll spend more time riding and less time wrestling with the rack or loading and unloading your bikes.

Pivoting Cradles with Cushioned Straps

Saris Freedom Cuscino Cradle

You'll sleep tight knowing that your bikes are lovingly cradled in Saris' patent-pending Cuscinos - or pillows. These pillows are built into the ratcheting straps that hold your bikes by the downtubes or top tubes in the rubber-lined cradles. These straps are specially designed to avoid scratching or scuffing your bike paint during transport. The rubber-lined cradles also have grooves that accommodate brake lines and cables.

Saris Freedom Adjustable Cradles

The cradles pivot and slide up and down the central mast. This allows the rack to grab your bike's tube at the perfect angle. Plastic twist knobs secure the cradles in place.

Adjustable Wheel Trays

The injection-molded plastic wheel trays are larger and deeper than standard cradles and will hold tires up to 5" wide. The trays slide along the rack's horizontal arm to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with plastic twist knobs. Extra-long, ratcheting plastic straps secure your bicycle's fat wheels to the trays.

Standard cradles are also included so that you can carry 2 standard bikes, 1 standard bike and 1 fat bike, or 2 fat bikes - all with one rack.

Folding Mast

Saris Freedom 2 Folded

You can fold down the upright mast by pulling a lever at the base. This allows you to easily access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it means you can leave the rack in your hitch without it interfering with your cargo hatch or backup camera. The compact design also lets you easily store the rack in your garage when it's not in use.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Adapter Sleeve

Saris Freedom 2 Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Adapter Sleeve

The threaded hitch pin helps to prevent the rack from moving and rattling around in your vehicle's hitch receiver. And the included adapter sleeve ensures that Freedom will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. An anti-rattle hitch lock (SA3022 - sold separately) and cable lock (SA981 - sold separately) are recommended to deter theft of the rack and your bikes.

Everything looked good except one piece was damaged. I just got off the phone with Korren to report the damaged piece and she is sending a replacement part. Both products, bike rack and receiver hitch otherwise looked to be very well built. Your company and representatives, Loren and Korren were very nice to work with on my purchase. Thank you 763738

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

WOW WOW WOW That is what I just kept saying after installing this Saris bike rack. I have been looking for a bike rack for almost 3-4 months now. Thule and Yakima didn't have what I was looking for. Their solution for a 4-5 bike rack is too complicated, not efficient, and it would be a nightmare to manage on a regular basis. So I couldn't get myself to pull a trigger on any of those and I kept searching. Finally, I came to eTrailer and found out about Saris. That is where the love starts :) We are a family of 5 (3 kids and 2 grown-ups). I needed something that will help me load bikes fast, unload them and still be able to have access to the back of my Toyota Sequoia. Saris delivered in every way. Assemble of the item is straight forward. Instructions are clear and to the point. They even give you a yellow strip that helps you mark where the hitch needs to be in order to align hole openings for easier installation after you install it the first time ;) The back-up camera is still usable but not 100%. Tilting down the rack with the bikes on it is simple as 1-2-3. There is plenty of room left between the trunk door and the bike as you can see on the pictures. One HUGE benefit is that you do not need any extra parts for kids bikes. Not like with other brands. Saris delivers tremendously on this part too. No shaking, rattling, or anything that would make you notice that you have this amazing product on the back of your SUV/truck. I can't recommend it more. I am just surprised that this product has not been more advertised and represented compared to other products. 655654

After a year this product is going strong. I have made my life easier by always putting same bikes in the same position heavier adult bikes closer to the car, and lighter kid bikes on the opposite side. This way I dont have to every adjust straps again. It makes everything so much easier. Just do yourself a favor and buy this product. You wont be sorry not for a little bit!

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

I received my Freedom 2 rack yesterday. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble it with no issues at all. This morning, I put the rack on the back of my 2014 Ford Explorer, and began to load my bike. The rack attached easily to my 2" hitch receiver, and when I tightened the bolt, it was a very sturdy and stable fit. I made the adjustments required to mount my bike on the rack, and found that it traveled securely and very stable. My only issue with the Freedom 2 is the hold-down straps on the wheel and tube brackets. I think a better ratcheting system and a better qualitty strap would greatly enhance the unit. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the rack. My carbon fibre hybrid and my grandson's road bikes will be easily transported to wherever we want to ride! 391673

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

I needed a bike rack to fit on my Jeep Wrangler that has 37 in tires and deep fuel wheels. This item with the extension, fit perfectly even with a backup camera on my bolts for my 37 in. Toyo spare tire. I am able to detach it with one screw and it is lightweight, so i only have bolt it on, add bike(s) and go. Easy to install minus the fact a 37 inch tire weighs a lot. Etrailer.com didn’t have the extension part in stalk but kept me informed of every step of the way. I still received it within 5 business days with customer service followed it all the way through. Great company. 572296

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

Completely inadequate for my application (heavier-than average eBikes; within the weight specifications of this Saris Freedom rack). eTrailer customer service should have advised against this rack, and for one more suitable for the task. But eTrailer did not recommend a more suitable rack. The rail from the hitch receiver to the rack is too long - on my installation, at least eight inches of wobbly lever could be removed and there would still be plenty of clearance between the rack and my vehicle bumper. That cartoonishly-long lever evokes the memory of Archimedes' long lever to move the world - in the case of this Saris Freedom rack, that long lever just makes the bikes and the rack wobble unacceptably. Of course, if the end-user modifies the rack in an attempt to do the design engineering job that was not done in Madison, WI, the lifetime warranty is voided. Replaced this rack with a Thule Easyfold. Way more money, but it does the job because it was designed to do the job. 420946

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

I bought this rack for several reasons, including its price point and light weight. I also like where its designed and made. The American flag on the back is a nice touch. I also wanted a solid platform rack that would hold two bikes securely for long road trips and highway speeds. I didn't see much need for a heavier tilt-away rack since I can easily access the rear of my small hatchback through the back the seats. This hitch is easy to assemble and ready to go in minutes. Its light weight makes it easy to slide into the hitch and the threaded hitch pin holds the rack tight. I also bought a cheap socket wrench and a deep 19mm socket to keep in the car. There is still a small amount of side to side wobble when the bikes are loaded, but not much. You won't notice any wobble when driving unless the road is really rough. Be sure to check out ETrailer's road test video of this rack. This is a good sturdy rack. I also got the hitch strap that Curt recommends to secure the center upright support to the car. I also recommend getting the Saris locking hitch pin and cable combo with matching keys. This rack does not fold up completely because the hitch arm is fixed, but its still light and easy to move around and store. And you could always take the hitch arm off for longer term winter storage. It does take some fiddling to get the tire mounts and drop bar mounts lined up for each bike so if you have four different bikes like I do, you'll find yourself doing that quite often. Eventually I will memorize the locations for each or mark them somehow on the rack. My two large road bikes fit like a glove but I could see there being some difficulty with getting seats and handle bars to clear sometimes, which means more time fiddling with the mounts when loading up a friend's bike. I also like how well centered the bikes are and how little side overhang I'm able to achieve, which is also important for long road trips and highway speeds (less drag = better mpg). All of my bikes are well centered and only my big 29" mountain bike with its long wheelbase sticks out to the side much. On the downside, but not for me, it does take some strength to lift the inside bike up and over the center support, and doing so carefully without hitting the back of your car. This could be a problem for some, especially if you have a big heavy townie or mountain bike. This is also dependent on how high your hitch receiver is off the ground. Mine happens to be very low to the ground so I don't have to lift the bikes as high as I would on a larger SUV for example. So other platform racks may be a better choice if you're concerned about lifting your bike up to or over shoulder height just to get it on the rack. To sum it up, the Saris Freedom 2 is a great rack for a good price and I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and for all the great info and advice from the wonderful people at Etrailer.com to make it so easy! Etrailer rocks! 346699

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

Works as described. Had to figure out that the piece that goes behind the tire doesn't hang on the lugs on my 2016 wrangler. It is simply suspended and held in place by the spare. I hope the weight of the rack and two bikes isn't adversely affecting my door. I like the fact that since it is attached to the door it swings with the door and moves out of the way. 432938

Still working as described. It would be better if it hung on the lugs as I suggested. Wondering if they made that improvement.

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

I was worried that the rack would be flimsy and not very sturdy, but this rack is anything but that. It is extremely solid works exactly as advertised. I have a CRV with an offset spare tire, so the bottom of the rack extends further to the left. This does not present any problems and it is extremely stable. The only two small things I'd mention are these. 1) Situating a bike in the rear position takes a little bit of effort until you figure out the best way to get it on. It literally takes about 30 seconds to put one on the front positions, but a lot longer in the rear. 2) The plate that attaches to the spare tire mount did not quite fit so that it was resting on the bolts while being centered through the hole in the tire. I had to position it so that it kind of floated in the middle while tightening the spare tire lugs. It seems to be holding though, so no worries so far. Overall, I've been completely satisfied and would highly recommend it. 125341

Hi,Could you explain what you mean by a lot longer, when referring to putting a bike on the rear position. How much more complicated is it, and why? Thanks,Dave

i give it three rating it is a nice rack and really light and easy to handle...The only two things I don't like about it are. I cannot put my short wheel base recumbent on it unless I do a lot of rigging... and two the cups for the wheel are plastic and I have had one break. Look up the replacement part and is a reasonably priced but the shipping is ridicules. I have patch it with gorilla tape and is working fairly well.. Am looking for another type so I can just put the recumbent on easily. 281792

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

Tire Mount for a 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. Installation is easy. However the mounting bracket doesn't fit well. If you look at the video on Saris website, (I believe this is a wrangler they are using) the top two tire bolts and the mount have very small contact point. The contact point is so small that all the weight and pressure seems to be concentrated on such a small area on the bolts. I would think that this could damage the bolts. I placed the bracket on its side which gives a much better and greater contact surface area. The problem with doing it this way is that its not perfectly square, thus in the end, the rack is slightly off level. Too me it's worth having the better contact area for this offset. I also used a little Silcone lubricant spay on the attachment bolt. Too keep it clean, rust free etc. The Rack itself is of excellent quality, Bike racks live on our SUVs. This is the first Saris rack we have tried. The only time, we plan on taking the rack off is for extreme off roading. The only reason for that is to ensure rear clearance of the rack. Of course you would have to do this for any platform rack including anything that could be mounted to any trailer hitch. In any event, we just recently put the rack on and it seems very stable, strong and everything you would want in a bike rack. I found the attachment points to the bike to my liking. After the first setup, the bikes really fit nicely, they could not be any easier to put on and take off, just a great rack. We are using it for our 26 inch Specialized Stump Jumper and Eros. Total weight of both bikes is about 56 lbs. True, this doesn't come with locks but personally I think such locks give a false sense of security and we don't use them on our other hitch carrier that comes with them. Any crook can easily get through any such device quickly. The other issue I saw on reviews of this product is it doesn't fold up. It sticks out 18 inches from the Wrangle gate tire , My folded up bike hitch on my other SUV sticks out 10 inches. To me this is a non issue as I am aware of it. Overall, I would have given this Saris bike rack 5 plus stars if it wasn't for the mounting bracket. I would even pay a little more money for a better bracket as this rack is that good. 180020

I was wondering if you could elaborate on how your bikes did not fit on your Saris bike rack. It does have a maximum wheelbase of 48 inches, and the wheel hoops are intended to be adjustable. If there is anything that I can do to help you out to try to get your bikes to fit I would be happy to give it a try.

I have checked with my contacts at Saris and if you are needing a longer horizontal bar you can use # SA4451B. This is an extended length adapter bar, and Saris actually uses this for their recumbent bike racks. For this bar you will need to measure the center hub to hub of the bikes and make sure that is less than 57 inches. https:www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-PartsSarisSA4415B.html

I just installed this on my Jeep and it was really easy. I have aftermarket tires which are pretty wide so I had to purchase the extended mounting plate. It is really sturdy. I feel a lot better about putting a carbon fiber frame bike on this platform rack, opposed to have to hang it on my old rack which isn’t good for the carbon frame. Also it is nice to be able to open the gate on the Jeep while it is still attached. I won’t have to take it off to put my dogs in the back of the Jeep. 565279

This product works very well for the type of bikes we got (Electra Townie men’s and woman’s). Not the best rack for the type of vehicle (2013 Jeep Wrangler). Unable to open back hatch to let dog out until the bikes are off the rack. First trip was 600 miles with bikes in tow and didn’t even know they were there. I love the fact that this is a American made product. I am happy with my purchase. Thanks to the support staff at etrailer it was a great experience 524849

I really wish I had gone with a different option. This rack is functional and secure, but annoyingly difficult to use. It takes a while just to get all the different cradles and straps positioned right for your configuration of bikes. And then it is difficult getting them loaded with those uprights in the middle, and not much clearance between bikes. A lot of fiddling with pedals and adjusting seat heights to make it work each time. If you have a different configuration of bikes you have to redo everything. The ratcheting straps stick really bad, which gets frustrating. I guess I expected more from a $500+ rack. Not a lot of pros that I can think of. 775790

This is a great platform rack. It is super easy to set up and adjust. It was actually exactly what I was looking for. After mounting it on the truck, I positioned each bike where I wanted it and adjusted it accordingly. When it came time to use it I loaded all 4 bikes in about 5 minutes. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of five is I had one of the tire trays break the first time I used it. I hope this was just a defective part and not an indication of poor quality. etrailer did an amazing job getting the part replaced and quickly sent to me. Overall I would recommend. 719044

Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks

This rack was purchased to replace a much heavier 4 bike rack. It is much lighter. Also, the threader mounting bolt is well done resulting in no noise from the mounting when traveling. There are 2 weaknesses which do not recommend the rack. First, the spring loaded pin for holding the vertical bar in place works very poorly resulting in the bar flopping around while loading bikes. More significant is the plastic construction of the brackets for attaching. The ones on the horizontal bar are workable but more difficult to slide than they should be. The ones on the vertical bar are worse. The padding for the frame is fine. But the latching straps and mechanism are awful. You have to adjust the bikes' positions and hardware (petals, etc) to get the brackets as far from everything as possible. Then you can thread the straps where you can closely guide and push them through the latching mechanism. If you try in any limited area, the straps won't be tight and you will just let the bike(s) travel loosely mounted. Fortunately the padding does keep them from getting scratched. Unless the brackets have been redesigned, I would not recommend this rack. I'm keeping the rack because it costs too much to just throw away. I've experimented for a year, so I've gotten everything in a workable position. Even so, it takes twice as long to load and unload bikes as it has on any other rack I've owned in the past 40 years. 657619

The upright arm on the Saris Freedom 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes part # SA4412B-FB can be tilted downward toward the ground to eliminate lifting the bike up and over the arm but the bike will need to be tilted towards the vehicle to allow for the frame mount clamp to clear the bike while folded. A better option for you would be to use the Saris Freedom SuperClamp part # SA4025F as this bike rack will not require you to lift your heavy fat bike up and over a tall upright arm. This...

  • Can I Use The Saris # SA4412B-FB Bike Rack For Two Sun Crushers Fat Tire Bikes 42 lbs Each?
The Saris Freedom 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # SA4412B-FB, does have the ability to carry up to 2 bikes weighing up to 60 lbs per bike. It has the ability to carry fat tire bikes with a maximum width of 5 inches as well. I've attached a video for you. Your Curt hitch has a tongue weight of 200 lbs, so this rack (which is compatible with your hitch and bikes) along with your 2 bikes loaded will be a tongue weight of about 125 lbs and within...

  • Compatibility of Saris Freedom 2 AS4412B-FB Fat Tire Bike Rack with 2006 Honda CR-V
To determine if the Saris # SA4412B-FB will be compatible with your 2006 CRV, you'll need to measure rearward from the hitch pin hole in the receiver tube till you pass the rear edge of the spare tire. If this distance is less than 10 inches, the rack should work well for you. When we installed a hitch on the 2006 Honda CRV, we found that the hitch pin hole to rear of spare tire distance was 8-1/2 to 8-3/4 inches. this means that the rack should fit fine, but on the bike closest to the...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation that Wont Block 2018 Ford Escape Backup Camera and Looks Really Cool
I will be happy to make some recommendations for you. But keep in mind that any loaded bike rack is going to block the view of the backup camera on your 2018 Ford Escape. But there are some great options that will only sort of block the view when they are not loaded. I recommend taking a look at the following bike racks: Kuat Transfer # TS02G-FB (Gray) Kuat Transfer # TS02B-FB (Black) Both of these racks have a u-shaped frame and since the backup camera on the 2017 Ford Escape...

  • Carrying Two Fat Bikes with the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack with Adapters
If the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # C18085 can carry two fat bikes will be determined by the weight of the bikes. Each position is limited to 45 pounds, and the individual bikes in this position can't exceed this weight capacity, even with the fat bike adapters, part # C18091 equipped onto the rack. If you're buying for two fat bikes, you can save a little bit by buying the dual Fat Bike kit, part # C18085-FB. If you have heavier fat bikes, and this rack won't work for you, I recommend...

  • Platform 2-Bike Rack for 2014 FJ Cruiser with Draw-Tite Hitch 75461
I'm glad to hear your Draw-Tite custom-fit hitch # 75461 installation went well on your 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser and I can help you with measuring the FJ to confirm the hitch bike racks that you can use. When we installed this hitch on a 2014 FJ we noted the center of the hitch pin hole was 8-1/2-inches from the back of the tire cover. Since the Thule EasyFold # TH903202 provides 9-inches of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rack's upright bar the fit will be too...

  • Bike Racks that Will Fit 5 Inch Wide Fat Bike Tires
Fat Bike Straps # TH985101 will allow a bike with tires up to 4-11/16 inches wide to fit the EasyFold XT, # TH903202, but not 5 inch wide tires. There are other bike racks that will accept fat bike tires up to 5 inches wide right out of the box: Thule T2 Classic # TH9044 or # TH9045 RockyMounts MonoRail # RKY10007-05 RockyMounts BackStage # RKY10002 Yakima HoldUp EVO # Y02479 or # Y02480 Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2-Bike Rack for Fat Bikes # HR200Z-FB Hollywood Racks Sport Rider...

  • Can Fat Bikes Fit On Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 Bike Rack
The Thule # TH903202 EasyFold XT bike rack is primarily designed for electric or downhill mountain bikes, but if the tires on your fat bike are 3 inches wide or less, the Thule EasyFold would work great for you. We do offer some racks specifically designed for fat bikes, such as the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2, part # HR1450Z-FB or the Saris Freedom 2 bike rack, part # SA4412B-FB. Of the three, I prefer the Thule T2 or the Hollywood Racks models because they include locks. I've...

  • Replacement for Thule DoubleTrack Bike Rack That Does Not Work For Fat Tire Bikes
The Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2-Bike Rack # TH990XT is a high-quality rack in a lot of ways, but a major drawback is that it does not offer the ability to hold bikes with fat tires, like you have had the bad luck to find out firsthand. There is also no kit that allows you to modify the rack to work with fat tires, and the reason why any type of modification will void the warranty is because if Thule or other rack manufacturers allowed any type of modifications and they didn't work,...

  • Comparing the Saris Freedom and Kuat Transfer for Use on a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime
One of the biggest factors when it comes to deciding bike rack fit is the distance from the center of your hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of your bumper. When we installed the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966 on a 2017 Toyota Prius Prime we found that distance to be 7". Out of the Saris Freedom 2 # SA4412B and the Kuat Transfer 2 # TS02G, or their Fat Bike variations # SA4412B-FB and # TS02G-FB, I prefer the Transfer. It is a wheel mount bike rack so there is...

  • Will Swagman XTC 2 Hold Fat Bikes and Clear Spare Tire on a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
First, the Swagman XTC 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64670 is not compatible with fat bikes. It accepts tires up to 2.5 inches wide but not to worry because there are many other options that will work with fat bikes. The Saris Freedom # SA4412B-FB is the fat bike version of the Freedom. It will accept tires up to 5 inches wide. To determine if it will clear the spare on the back of your 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser there is one measurement needed. On the hitch measure from the center of the hitch...

  • Bike Rack to Carry 2 Fat Bikes on 2017 Honda HR-V with Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver
The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider for Fat Bikes # HR200Z-FB will fit the Class I hitch receiver on your 2017 Honda HR-V. The only concern you need to watch for is the weight of the bikes since fat bikes can sometimes be heavy. The Trail Rider has a weight capacity of 45 pounds per bike. You also need to check the tongue weight of the hitch on your Honda. Another rack you may like is the Saris Freedom, part # SA4412B-FB which will hold fat bikes up to 60 pounds per bike.

  • Platform Bike Rack For Fat Bikes For 2006 Land Rover LR3
The Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22G measures 10-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the nearest part of the carrier when down, and 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the nearest part of the carrier when folded. If your 2006 Land Rover LR3 has 7 inches of clearance, the Kuat NV 2.0 would not fit well on your vehicle in the folded position. The tire adapters for the Kuat NV 2 are part # APBK. With these adapters, the NV 2 can hold a bike with tires up to 4-1/4 inches wide. This...

  • Will Ladies Diamondback Vital 2 Bike Fit Saris Freedom Bike Carrier # SA4412B
I was unable to find a lot of details about the Vital 2 other than the rims are 27-inches diameter. It is a lightweight aluminum bike and I read where the weight is around 30-lbs. The Saris Freedom 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # SA4412B will work with 1-1/4 and 2-inch trailer hitch receivers. The maximum tire width the Freedom can handle is 3-inches and the maximum wheelbase of a bike that will work with the # SA4412B is 48-inches. This bike carrier only weighs 22-1/2 lbs and it has a...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Fat Tire Electric Bike
The Yakima HoldUp 2-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches # Y02443 will not work with fat tire bikes, but we do have a pair of options I recommend checking out instead. The first is the Thule T2 Classic 2-Bike Platform Rack # TH9044. The T2 Classic is similar to the HoldUp in that it is a wheel-mount rack with a 60 lb per-bike capacity, but will fit tires up to 5 inches wide. It has large wheel holders to make loading your bikes in the rack simple, and you can tilt or fold the rack with the use...
