I recently had a hitch installed on my car. Since the cargo carrier that I have was used previously without an adapter, I assumed that I didn't need one. Now trying to locate one was more of an effort than locating a hitch. The local auto parts stores of national brands don't keep them in stock. One store made an inquiry but didn't give me much hope. Now I can make a rode trip in confidence that the carrier will be secure as I head down the interstate.

Comments
I find myself using the cargo carrier like a bed of a pickup. I couldnt do that if it wasnt for the extender.

Quality product and excellent service from etrailer.com! The Hitch Extender works well allowing me to back my boat trailer further into the deeper water.

I installed a hide away hitch on my son's Mustang (College kid, cramping his style), Wayne really helped me with this 10 inch extender. The part came the next day. Excellent part and excellent service.

100% disabled American Veteran. Needed a new option to transport my powered wheelchair. Existing Class I hitch receiver was located too far (internally) from the bumper of my car. Nothing available at any of the local big-box retailers. What to do? Happily, eTrailer came to the rescue with this 10" Class I hitch extension that easily solved my problem. It allows the receiver opening to protrude far enough past my car's rear bumper to connect with the self-supporting wheelchair lift I purchased. Without this extension, I would have been unable to transport my chair. I contacted eTrailer, spoke with Customer Service and was very pleasantly surprised at how quickly this was delivered to me! Affordable, the right tool for the job and couldn't ask for better from the wonderfully personable employees at eTrailer! Buy with confidence! John H.

Still doing the excellent job I purchased it for! Couldnt ask for better!

This is exactly what I needed since my new hitch is recessed about 4 inches from my rear bumper. The connecting bar on my bike rack would not reach my hitch. Almost bought the 6" version, but once I noticed the availability of the 10" extention, I decided it would provide greater distance, keeping the handle bars away from my SUV rear window. Great product and their staff are extremely helpful if you need to call them :-)

This has worked out fine.

Adds just the right amount of extension that I was looking for. It's sturdy, superior quality and great the value.

I'm not an employee of eTrailer. In fact, I had never heard of the company until I found them on the internet when I was trying to find a solution to my problem: My wife is battling Stage IV cancer and loves to take long drives (like the entire Blue-Ridge Parkway, the Natchez Trace Parkway, etc.) in her hard-top convertible. Because the cancer is progressing, she is now confined to a wheelchair. Since the entire trunk is filled with the hard top when the top is down, we couldn't put her wheelchair in the trunk and then drive with the top down. I had a small trailer hitch installed so we could use a bike rack to hang her wheelchair on the back. BIG PROBLEM: When the trunk would open to accept the hard-top, it would bang into the rack. I purchased the eTrailer hitch extender and it works PERFECTLY. In a way, this product has contributed in a big way to her quality of life.

by:

This hitch extender was delivered quickly, looks great and is sturdily built. I bought the HES0 hitch extender because I have a pretty short, high trailer for my sailboat. This has the rear bumper of my tow vehicle underwater while launching and recovering on all but the steepest ramps. I was planning to have my trailer modified, but this option was not cost-effective. My hitch receiver is only a 1 1/4 and could only use this model with a total extension of 10 inches. This may not solve my problem as well as the models designed for 2" that have a total extension of 18" but at the least allow me to open the rear door while still hooked up.

by:

Too long for the imprezza Subaru. It pulled the bike rack down and hit ground on bumps

by:

I bought this extension to give me a little more reach when launching a newly purchased Montgomery 15 sailboat. My car is a 2005 Subaru Outback. I won't be using this extension for towing the boat, just only for launching. Also, when the extension is used with my bicycle rack I can fully open the rear hatchback on the Subaru with bikes attached. This is very convenient. Purchasing from etrailer is the way to go. Very prompt service.

by:

Nice 1 1/1/4" hitch heavy duty extender--hard to find in stores. Fits so tight inside hitch that advise putting oil on part that fits into hitch. Otherwise it may be hard to impossible to get back out. Goo tight fit thhough prevents bike rack wobbling.

by:

Just what I needed to clear the external spare tire for a bike rack on my Isuzu trooper. now I hope the truck lasts half as long as this hitch receiver will.

by:

Purchased because my bike rack was too close to the back of the car. The quality of this product is top notch and eTrailer was excellent to deal with. This item moved the bike rack 10 inches back, making the bike rack easier to use. You won't be disappointed.

by:

Very nice hitch extentsion. However with so many joints it wobles a bit and needs extra tightenting so my bike doesn't dance down the road.

Just installed this extension on my Polaris Razor. Couldnt attach a trailer because of the rear bumper I installed. This cured the problem. This extension is heavy duty and installed easily.

This is what I’ve been looking for for a while now thank you you had it in stock and Did not have to wait quick shipping to thank you

Extender is every thing as advertised, works good for my car
and my cart carrier.

The girl was so pleasant helpful, she really knows her business.

I was having trouble finding a 1 1/4 inch extender this long. Found it here while I was looking for a different product. I was impressed with the inventory. Also, I ordered on a Sunday and they filled the order that day.

by:

Bought the 10" Hitch Extender so I could open my Audi Quattro SW Hatchback while the bikes were loaded on. Works great!

by:

Everything that I have ordered from etrailer have been really great products.

by:

Immediate service and answers to my concerns in timely manners. I ordered hitch from them then later on I ordered extended from them.

by:

Surprised there is a 1 1/4" receiver 10' hitch extender I needed and etrailer has is and it was easy-peasey to order and receive.

by:

Searched numerous local stores and no one had it, 5 minutes on the E-trailer website and it was ordered and at my front door in 4 days!!!!

  • What Hitch Extender do I need for a Thule Rack on a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with Mud Spare Tire
To determine the extension length you need to take a measurement on the back of your wrangler. Take a yard stick or a dowel rod and stand it straight up and down on the ground and have it touch the outer most spot on the tire. Measure from the center of your hitch pin hole to the yard stick. This measurement is the minimum clearance you will need. Next, measure from the upright on the bike rack straight back to the hitch pin hole on the bike rack. This is the clearance the bike rack provides....

  • Shank Dimension of Brophy # HES0 Hitch Extender
The shank on the # HES0 Hitch Extender measures 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch. The extender will insert into your 1-1/4 inch receiver and will provide 10 inches of extension. Keep in mind that using the extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. You can see the dimension in the photo I have edited for you.

  • Can Trailer Hitch Extender hes0 Be Used for Towing with a 2007 Ford Explorer
Yes, you can use adapter # hes0 for towing a trailer. It does not sound like your trailer will be all that heavy but keep in mind that the use of an extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. The adapter itself has a tongue weight capacity of 175 pounds. So whichever is lower, the 175 pound capacity of the adapter or the reduced capacity of the hitch, is the capacity you will need to go by. The gross trailer weight capacity of the hitch will...

  • Which Hitch Extender Needed to Use Bike Rack in Hitch Installed on 2012 Chevy Camaro
We have two extenders available that are compatible with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. The # HES6 is 6 inches long and the # HES0 is 10 inches. To determine which you need, you'll need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole in the shank of your bike rack to the closest portion of the rack upright. The length of the shank added to the length of the extender would need to be longer than 12 inches, so the bike rack clears the bumper. However, using the extender will lower the tongue...

  • Using Brophy Hitch Extender # hes0 for 1-1/4 Inch Bike Rack on 2003 Mini Cooper
The Brophy Hitch Extender, part # hes0, is a hitch extender that will extend out your 1-1/4 inch opening by 10 inches. The hitch opening on the extender is 1-1/4 inch. The # hes0 extender will accept the shaft of a 1-1/4 inch bike rack, but you we need to remember that when using the extender it will reduce the overall weight capacity of your hitch by 50 per cent. • Solution for Hitch-Mounted Cargo Carrier that Interferes with Rear Bumper
I do have a possible solution for you. In order to extend your hitch receiver out from behind the Accord's rear bumper, I recommend using a 1-1/4 inch hitch extender like the Brophy # HES6 for a 6 inch extension or # HES0 for a 10 inch extension. These are both compatible with your Class I hitch and will keep the receiver opening at 1-1/4 inches on the other end. This should give you enough length to clear the rear bumper and allow for hitch-mounted accessories to mount without interfering. An...

I am not sure which other hitch extenders you are looking at but the only extenders we have available for 1-1/4 inch receivers, the 10 inch # HES0 that you referenced and the shorter 6 inch # HES6, both have a 1,750 pound towing weight capacity. Any variance between these and the capacities on other model extenders would just have to do with their particular design/construction and what the manufacturer tested and rated the unit for. • What is the Length of the Receiver Portion on Brophy Extender # HES6
I went out to the warehouse to measure the Brophy Hitch Extender # HES6 referenced in your question. The inside of the receiver portion on the extender is right at 3-1/2 inches in length, so there may be compatibility issues with your bike rack. Another option to look at is the Brophy Hitch Extender # HES0 that has a longer 10 inch extension. The receiver portion of this extender is closer to 8 inches, so there should be no issues getting the 4 inches you need to secure your bike rack....

This extender will move your bike rack an additional 10 inches away from your 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. If you are looking to gain just a few inches, I suggest that you go with the Brophy Hitch Extender, # hes6. The longest we carry for a 1-1/4 inch hitch is the 10 inch Brophy Hitch Extender # HES0.
