Adam So we got a problem. I want to use this bike rack, but I can't even get it in there to put the hitch pin in because it gets so close to the bumper. So we do have a solution. All I need is an extender. So this one is the Brophy extender and this is going to solve our problem. It installs like any other accessory that you put in your hitch before.

So let's take this rack out. And this thing is about a foot long from end to end. But from the center of the hitch pin hole to the other hitch pin hole, it's going to be about 10 inches. So we're getting 10 inches of extension. It does not come with a hitch pin.

So you will have to get one yourself. We got a lot here at etrailer. It is not a hollow shank, solid. So we're not going to be able to put a anti-rattle device that threads in there, but we do have some that's kind of like a collar, that'll kind of help with that rattling. But if you do get a hitch pin, you need to get one that locks into place.

Why Well, most bike racks that you're going to be using are going to have a lock. So we have the Swagman Current on there right now, which has a lock right here. But if we lock the bike rack to the extension, obviously they can just pull the switch pin out and take the extension with it. So we want to protect our extension and the bike rack. So definitely get a hitch pin that locks in, but now that that's there, we can put our bike rack back in and we can actually use it now.

So that's good. One. We're actually going to be able to use the bike rack. Two. Our bike rack is not going to be so close to the bumper and our exhaust. So nothing's going to melt and our bikes are going to be a little bit safer this way. So now we can line it all up and we're pretty much good to go. So we want to make sure that you get at least the amount of the extension that you need, and we don't want to get not enough extension. So with any extension, whether it's two inches or if it's 10 inches like this one here, we're going to cut our hitches capacity in half. So be mindful of that. One. If you have a Current like this, which is made for the electric bikes, we might not be able to put those really heavy bikes on depending on what kind of hitch that you have. But just keep that in mind, any extension is going to cut your hitch's capacity in half. So as you can see, we have plenty of room now. We're not going to have any issues with hitting the bumper, the exhaust isn't going to be too close to the rack. And then now that we can fold it down, the bikes are gonna be even farther apart, farther away. So with this, even with the bikes installed, we're still going to be able to open up this hatch because it kind of sticks out to about here. It all depends on the handlebars though. But we can have access, we're not damaging our vehicle, and our vehicle is not damaging our unit or our bikes. It is going to be made of steel. Powder-coated finish. And we have so many of these on our website. So you just want to make sure you get the amount of extension that you need. I would say get more than less, just because you are going to cut your hitch's capacity in half. So might as well get more than less. So all in all, we just want to make sure everything works. So with an extension, we can either make it easier on ourselves, limit our cars less, or just allow us to use more accessories. And that'll do it for our look at the Brophy 10 inch extension for your inch and a quarter hitches. And I'm Adam with etrailer..

  • Trailer Hitch, Bike Rack, And Hitch Extender For A 2001 Honda CR-V
I do have a solution for your 2001 Honda CR-V, however using a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" class I hitch may not be the best choice. Since you have a spare tire on the rear of your vehicle, you're going to need to use a hitch extender like # HES0. What this is going to do is, push your hitches receiver opening out past your bumper giving you the clearance to use your bike rack without interference. The only catch is, whenever you use a hitch extender or any hitch adapters, you are going to limit your...

  • Hitch Extender for Curt Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Mini Cooper S R53
For your application we have the 6" Brophy Extension # HES6 or the 10" Brophy Extension # HES0. These will move the hitch pin hole of the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11126 on your 2006 Mini Copper further out to make it easier to install your bike rack. I do recommend using an anti-rattle device like the Quiet Hitch # RM-061-125 to help reduce any play in the hitch receiver. You can then use a pin and clip # PC2 or a locking hitch pin # e98879 to secure and leave the extension installed on your...

  • 1.25 Hitch Extender for 2008 Toyota RAV4 Hitch
Extend your trailer hitch receiver opening so that you can clear your spare tire when using your hitch-mounted bike rack or so that your trailer won't hit a rear-mounted propane tank when you make sharp turns. Powder coated steel resists rust. These extender fits 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" trailer hitch receivers (Class I or Class II). We have them available in 6" # HES6 and 10" # HES0. Using a 1-1/4" extender will reduce your hitch's overall capacity by 50 percent. These extenders go well with...

  • Availability of Shorter 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch Extender
I am not sure which other hitch extenders you are looking at but the only extenders we have available for 1-1/4 inch receivers, the 10 inch # HES0 that you referenced and the shorter 6 inch # HES6, both have a 1,750 pound towing weight capacity. Any variance between these and the capacities on other model extenders would just have to do with their particular design/construction and what the manufacturer tested and rated the unit for. The above 6 inch extender # HES6 should be a good option...

  • Why Does Hitch Extender for Class I Hitch Cut Weight Capacity
Using a hitch adapter with a hitch like the # C11067 does cut the capacity of the hitch in half due to the fact they add length which creates more leverage and movement. The added length puts additional torque on the hitch. For a Class I hitch extender we have the part # HES0 which is a 10 inch extender.

  • Recommended Hitch Extender for 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
For the 1-1/4 receivers, we have only a couple options. We have the 6 inch hitch extender # HES6, and the 10 inch # HES0 you mentioned. The weight limit when using an extender is 50% of your trailer hitch receiver's rated capacity for tongue weight.

  • Hitch Extenders and Hitch Expanders for Class I Hitch
Yes, we do have Class I hitch expanders that are like the Class II part # 80303 that you referenced. This item # 80303 fits a Class II 1-1/4-inch hitch and converts the opening to a 2-inch size while also providing 6-inches of extension. For a 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch we have similar items like Brophy # HT5R which gives you the larger 2-inch receiver size as well as 5-inches of rise for better ground clearance with whatever accessory you mount in it. They also offer a straight expander/extender...

  • Hitch Extension for 1-1/4 Inch Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on 2011 Kia Soul
By square stock I believe you are referring to a hitch extender. There is an extension for the Draw-Tite # 24839 hitch that fits your 2011 Kia Soul, but it is not 24 inches. The longest we carry for a 1-1/4 inch hitch is the 10 inch Brophy Hitch Extender # HES0. Please keep in mind that extenders such as this one will reduce your hitch capacity by half, so using one will reduce the Draw-Tite's tongue weight capacity to 100 lbs. I've added links to video reviews of both the hitch and extender...

  • What is the Length of the Receiver Portion on Brophy Extender # HES6
I went out to the warehouse to measure the Brophy Hitch Extender # HES6 referenced in your question. The inside of the receiver portion on the extender is right at 3-1/2 inches in length, so there may be compatibility issues with your bike rack. Another option to look at is the Brophy Hitch Extender # HES0 that has a longer 10 inch extension. The receiver portion of this extender is closer to 8 inches, so there should be no issues getting the 4 inches you need to secure your bike rack....

  • Is a 2 Trailer Hitch Available for a 2003 Subaru Baja
While we do have a Curt # C11280 are 1-1/4" Class I trailer hitches. If you wanted a 2" receiver you need to use the Brophy Hitch Extender # HES0 but this cuts the weight ratings of the trailer hitch by 50% which means your limited to 1,000 lbs towing/100 lbs tongue weight. Since this is less than ideal, I recommend using an accessory that fits a Class I trailer hitch receiver. If you let me know what you plan on using the trailer hitch for, I can make additional recommendations as necessary. Attached...

  • Solution for Hitch-Mounted Cargo Carrier that Interferes with Rear Bumper
I do have a possible solution for you. In order to extend your hitch receiver out from behind the Accord's rear bumper, I recommend using a 1-1/4 inch hitch extender like the Brophy # HES6 for a 6 inch extension or # HES0 for a 10 inch extension. These are both compatible with your Class I hitch and will keep the receiver opening at 1-1/4 inches on the other end. This should give you enough length to clear the rear bumper and allow for hitch-mounted accessories to mount without interfering. An...
