Will the Furrion Chill Cube Work w/ the Cummins Onan QG 4000i Onboard RV Generator?

Updated 06/23/2025 | Published 06/18/2025

Question:

I have a 2015 forester 3011ds. I want to upgrade the ac with this but not sure if my Cummins Onan RV QG 400 generator is capable of handling the new unit. Will I be able to use this unit as a replacement?

Hey Joseph, it sure will. The Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner item # LC34DX is most likely going to be more efficient that what you're currently running. It only pulls 1,330 watts while drawing 11.6 amps.

The Furrion Chill Cube item # LC34DX has the new R32 refrigerant, which is far more efficient. Your Cummins Onan QG Generator item # CM42ZR is going to have no problems keeping up with this AC unit.

Please note that due to the new R32 refrigerant none of the Chill Cube components like item # LC34DX are backwards compatible with any existing systems. In order to use the Chill Cube you'll need to upgrade your entire AC system with one of the following options:

If you have a ducted system you will want the Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box item # FR39TD.

If you have a ductless system you'll need the Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box item # FR27TD.

If your RV has a furnace you'll have to install the Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Air Distribution Box item # FR49TD, which includes the thermostat you'll need to control your furnace.

What AC system do you currently have in your Forest River?

It’s a dometic but not sure exact model. It is the original that came on the RV when I bought it new in 2015

@JosephK We don't have anything that works with Dometic anymore so replacing the entire system with Furrion would definitely give you a noticeable upgrade. Do you have a furnace, or plan on adding one?

@JerredH I have a furnace in the RV. The Dometic is supposed to have a heat pump as well but it quit working a couple years ago so just the furnace. Can you tell me all the parts I would need to get to install it? I currently have a wall mounted thermostat from Dometic and would like to at least use the wires there and replace the wall control and also be able to use it for the furnace

@JosephK I sure can. Since you have a furnace and your trailer is wired for a thermostat, you'll want the Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w/ Air Distribution Box item # FR49TD. You'll be able to install the Furrion thermostat using your existing wiring.
