Can I Operate A Furrion Chill Cube Unit With The Remote Only?

Question:
I have a suburban ducted heater currently controlled by my thermostat. With this setup, do I have to have the ac unit controlled by the thermostat or can I have it controlled by the remote control only? Then just leave my current thermostat alone for use when I need heat? I’m not clear on why I need to upgrade the thermostat if I do t even care if it controls my ac unit. If the remote doesn’t work on its own, well that’s another story. Thanks Peter

Hey Peter, thanks for reaching out. I see you already got your # FR49TD Chill Cube system on order, but I wanted to make sure your question was answered.
Yes, you can absolutely keep the Suburban furnace on its existing thermostat and operate the Furrion Chill Cube separately with the remote. In fact, for what you are trying to accomplish, that is the setup I recommend. The # FR49TD includes the Furrion wall thermostat because it gives you the option of controlling both the Chill Cube and a compatible furnace from one thermostat, but the AC itself does not need that wall thermostat to operate. The included wireless remote can control the Chill Cube and even has Follow Me mode, which lets the remote act as the temperature sensor for the AC.
Since your Suburban furnace already works properly from its own thermostat, I see no reason to complicate that side of the system. Leave the existing furnace thermostat and wiring alone and run the Chill Cube independently from its air distribution box and remote. We have also seen some compatibility headaches when trying to integrate certain Suburban furnaces with the Furrion wall thermostat, so keeping the two systems separate is actually a good call.

I purchased the ducted Furrion with digital wall thermostat. I do have working with my propane furnace. Downside is Furrion fan continues to run to circulate air when wall stat is in Heat (furnace) mode. If you turn off the AC 120v supply to stop fan, an error code flashes on interior Furrion display fairly bright. You can control the furrion without a wall stat or remote because power, temp and mode are adjustable on Furrion ceiling trim. My Furrion came with follow-me remote, however we have not used. Furrion ducted model does not feed ceiling vents forward center, only center rear or sides. 18KW unit is very quiet and easily cools our 30' motorhome on 75% gear.

We have the same type setup but we decided to use the new thermostat that comes with the Chill Cube. Works perfectly with the furnace and the new AC unit. The remote also works but just for the AC of course

My experience was to not even get the wall thermostat involved with the A/C. Including the thermostat in the package just causes more issues that it's worth. Use the remote only for the A/C and use a separate thermostat for the furnace. I left my furnace wired into the Dometic thermostat. You can also buy an inexpensive backlit basic thermostat if need arises. Put the included Furrion thermostat on a shelf and maybe someday Furrion will come out with a way to use it.
