Cold oil makes winter starts harder. This 125-watt pad warms 3 to 6 quarts of engine oil or 1 to 7 gallons of hydraulic or transmission fluid, with a 3" round shape for compact, flat mounting areas.
When temperatures drop, thick engine oil creates more resistance during cranking and takes longer to circulate. This 125-watt silicone pad warms 3 to 6 quarts of oil through the metal pan, making those cold starts easier on your engine. It can also warm 1 to 7 gallons of hydraulic or transmission fluid, useful for equipment that sits outside or in an unheated shop during winter.
Not every oil pan or transmission housing has room for a long, rectangular heater. This 3" round pad gives you another mounting shape with which to work. You'll need a flat, smooth metal area at least 3" in diameter, with enough clearance around it to install the pad and route its cord. It attaches to either steel or aluminum, so you're not limited to magnetic surfaces.
Note: The round shape doesn't mean the pad can wrap around a curved pan. The entire heating surface must contact flat metal without gaps, ridges, or grooves.
The built-in thermostat cycles within a 170F to 200F range to regulate the pad's temperature. Actual fluid temperature depends on the weather, fluid volume, and installation. Once the heater is properly mounted, the included 6' grounded cord connects to a standard 120V outlet when you need to warm the fluid.
An oil-pan heater warms the lubricant, while an engine block heater (sold separately) primarily warms the coolant. If you're dealing with severe cold, using both addresses different parts of the starting process. A battery heater (sold separately) can also maintain available cold-cranking amps, giving you another way to prepare a vehicle or piece of equipment for winter starts.
Zerostart is a Phillips & Temro brand, from the company behind a broad line of engine, battery, and equipment heaters. If the Zerostart name is new to you, this pad comes from a manufacturer that has spent years developing products for cold-weather equipment operation.
Install only on steel or aluminum with enough flat, smooth space for the entire 3" round pad. Avoid ridges, grooves, raised areas, and curved surfaces. Do not install on plastic or composite materials.
Remove paint from an area slightly larger than the pad and scuff the metal with sandpaper. Clean with acetone or brake cleaner and dry completely. Warm the mounting surface above 100F (38C) before applying the pad.
Remove the adhesive backing and use the included scraper to press the pad firmly against the metal, removing air gaps. Apply the included silicone sealant around the edges, not underneath the pad. Do not use additional adhesive to secure it. Wait 24 hours before regular operation.
Never cut, trim, or puncture the pad. Keep the cord away from excessive heat, moving components, and abrasion. Use a properly rated grounded extension cord suitable for outdoor use when needed.
