Log Splitter Hydraulic Fluid And Pump Is Too Cold During Winter Months - Heater Pad
Published 11/04/2025 >
Question:
Would the 3-inch Zerostart silicone pad work on my small hydraulic log splitter reservoir? I use it in the winter and it doesn't perform or behave very good when it's below freezing until temp gets up after running a bit. It's also harder on the pump.

Yes, Pat, the Zerostart Silicone Pad Heater # ZE75MR is designed for exactly that type of setup. It’s rated for 1–7 gallons of hydraulic or transmission fluid, and the 125-watt output with a 170–200°F thermostat will keep your hydraulic oil moving smoothly on cold mornings. Just make sure the tank surface is bare, clean metal before sticking it down.
How big is your tank? I can help confirm if one pad is enough or if doubling up makes sense.
