  • 2004 Subaru Legacy Outback Trailer Hitch with 2 Inch Receiver Opening
There is no Class III receiver hitch available for the 2004 Subaru Legacy. We do have an adapter that will fit the class II 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch, # 80303 that would allow you to use a 2 inch accessory in your class II receiver. When using an adapter, you must take into account that your tongue weight will be reduced by 50 percent so the weight of your bikes and rack could not exceed 100 or 125 pounds, depending on which hitch you purchase. I have linked below to the hitches we carry...

  • Is The Hidden Hitch Adapter # 80303 The Shortest 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter Available
The Hidden Hitch 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter, part # 80303, is our shortest adapter, but can only be used with a Class II receiver. If you have a Class I receiver, you will need part # HTAD. Part # 80303 will stick out about 1-1/4 inch less, than # HTAD. You can check the label on your hitch or send us the hitch number to find out if it is Class I or Class II. I am including a link to a FAQ page that will help describe the different classes of trailer hitches. Please note, using...

  • Hitch Adapter Needed for a Class I Trailer Hitch
The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # 80303, has a longer shank on it so that it can not be installed in a lower capacity Class I hitch. Class I hitches have a stop inside the receiver to keep higher capacity Class II accessories from being installed in them, so they are not overloaded. The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # HTAD, is designed for use in both a 1-1/4 inch Class I and Class II hitch so it may work for your application. We...

  • How to Carry Bike Rack for 2 Inch Receiver on a 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
Honestly, the best practice would be to avoid using an adapter like the # 80303 you'd looked at if at all possible. The very best option would either to remove the existing 1-1/4 inch hitch and replace it with a 2 inch hitch like part # C38JR or replace your existing bike rack for one that's compatible with a 1-1/4 inch hitch such as the Swagman XTC2, part # S64670 which can carry two bikes weighing up to 35 lbs each and is compatible with both 2 inch and 1-1/4 inch receivers. That being...

  • Difference Between Curt and Tow Ready 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Hitch Adapters
Realistically there isn't much difference between the two extenders you referenced aside from price. Both are extenders that go from 1-1/4 to 2 inch and are both right at 6 inches in length. If it were me I would go with the Curt # C45785 over the Tow Ready part # 80303.

  • Can I Use A Weight Distribution Hitch Or An Adapter With A Class II Trailer Hitch
Class II trailer hitches are not manufactured for weight distribution. Due to this, there are not any weight distribution hitch manufacturers designing systems for Class II trailer hitches. The addition of a hitch adapter does not change this fact. You only have two options in this scenario. If possible, you can replace your Class II trailer hitch with a Class III trailer hitch. The second option is to reduce the tongue weight on your trailer. You can shift the load of your trailer rearward...

  • Use of Any Adapter Does Decrease the Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity by Half
You are experiencing a common dilemma. The use of any adapter does decrease the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50%. If your MKX Class II hitch offers a 350 lbs tongue weight capacity then with an adapter the bikes and rack combined cannot exceed 175 lbs. For most applications this would be sufficient but not knowing your bikes and how much they weight I cannot tell you for certain if this will work.Should you decide to go with an adapter we would recommend an anti rattle lock to secure...

  • How Can I Use My 2 Inch Bike Rack with my 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
We offer adapters so you can use the 2 inch bike rack with the 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch. The appropriate adapter for your hitch depends on what class it is. You can use part # HTAD if your hitch is a Class I or Class II and part # 80303 will only fit Class II. Please note, using either of these adapters will reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If you have a Class I hitch with a 200 pound tongue weight capacity, using this adapter you will only be able to put 100 pounds of...

  • Can I Use a 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch Adapter for a Folding Cargo Carrier?
I have a solution for you. Since we don't carry a folding cargo carrier for 1-1/4 inch hitches, the best route is to use a hitch adapter like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver (Class II Only) # 80303 with a 2-inch folding option. However, it is important to note that using any kind of hitch adapter will decrease your maximum weight capacity on the hitch by 50%. With that being said, for a folding 2-inch cargo carrier, I recommend the 20x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2"...

  • How To Tell What Class Hitch I Have on My Toyota Matrix
There are a few ways to tell if you have a Class I hitch. Your hitch should have a sticker with the weight ratings, that indicate if it is a Class I hitch. A Class I hitch will have a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. The other way to tell is, on a Class I hitch, there will be a small dent or punch in the receiver behind the hitch pin hole. If your hitch has this punch, it is a Class I hitch. The reason the punch is there, is to prevent customers...

  • Why Class II Items Do Not Fit in Class I Receivers and Extenders Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver (Class II Only), item # 80303, will not slide into a Class I receiver far enough for the hitch pin hole to line up with the hitch pin hole in the Class I hitch. The Class I hitch is designed with a stop so that Class II accessories, that could potentially overload the hitch or vehicle capacity, cannot be used. An adapter that is designed so that it extends the items added to the receiver farther away from the hitch , like a...

The Yakima BackSwing, part # Y02483, is essentially an adapter that gives a hitch mounted accessory the swinging feature. If you are to use a 1-1/4 to 2 inch expander, like part # 80303 which is also and adapter, you would be using two adapters which is never recommended.

  • Can I Use A Hitch Adapter To Convert A 1-1/4 Receiver To 2 For The RockyMounts MonoRail?
The RockyMounts MonoRail 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches # RKY10004 could technically fit your 2015 Subaru Forester's 1-1/4" receiver when used with the Hitch Adapter # 80303, but using this adapter will reduce your trailer hitch receiver's capacity by 50%. This will likely not allow enough weight capacity for the RockMounts carrier (38lbs) and your two bikes, but it will work if your combined weight will be under 50% weight capacity of your receiver. If your combined weight is going...

  • Compatibility of Hitch Expander and Spare Tire Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
The Brophy Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch # HTAD or the Tow Ready # 80303 has an ability to adapt your hitch and yet will reduce the tongue weight of your hitch by 50%. With a 1-1/4 inch receiver, this weight can be as high as 350 lbs but in most cases is 200 lbs prior to that 50% reduction. That leaves you with 100lbs to carry your spare tire and its carrier like # C31006. In this case, that combination will work with the carrier weight of 31 lbs.

  • Can I Carry Two Heavy Electric Bikes on a 2011 Lexus ES350?
For your 2011 Lexus ES 350, the only available hitches are Class II 1-1/4 hitch receivers. Technology has advanced where 2" hitches are being designed for newer models, but for your vehicle, a Class II is as good as it gets. The only solution here would be to use a hitch adapter # 80303 to turn your 1-1/4" into a 2" hitch. I would be cautious though, since this method halves your hitch capacity. Instead of 300lbs tongue weight, you will have 150 lbs tongue weight capacity. Rad Electric...

Part # 24692, is a Class 1 hitch and is designed to not to work with a 2 inch adapters, because of the weigh capacity of a Class I hitch. The protrusion in the receiver is put there on purpose by the manufacturer to prevent overloading or using adapters. Therefore, no you cannot use a class III hitch on a Chevrolet Malibu which is the case for a lot of these smaller vehicles because they simply don't make one for them due to the limited capacities. • Is Using a Hitch Adapter for a Spare Tire Carrier Safe?
You will be alright using a Hitch Adapter # 80303 as long as you do not exceed the weight ratings. So as long as your spare tire and carrier weights do not exceed 175lbs you are within the manufacturers specifications. Physically, yes, you can use a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter, like # 80303, in your ATV receiver. But, there are a couple of things you will need to be aware of. First, you will need to check to make sure that the receiver on the ATV has at least 2 inches of space from the center of the hitch pin hole back away from the receiver opening. If it has a closed back or something in the way and the obstruction is less than 2 inches from the hitch pin hole center, this adapter will not fit. Second,...

Your 1-1/4 inch receiver on your Grand Marquis is most likely a Class II, but without an ID sticker or part number to confirm, I couldn't say for sure. This means that your hitch likely has a tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downward force that can be applied to hitch without damaging it) ranging from 200-350 lbs. The fact that there's a reinforcing ring around it would lend credence to the fact that it's a Class II, but there are a few manufacturers that have made class I's with...
