Question:
I have a Class II hitch on my crosstrek, and I have been looking for a folding cargo carrier, but there doesnt seem to be any options out there. I am considering going with a folding cargo carrier meant for a 2 inch receiver and attaching it to a hitch adapter to fit my 1 1/4 inch hitch. Would you advise against this?

I have a solution for you. Since we don't carry a folding cargo carrier for 1-1/4 inch hitches, the best route is to use a hitch adapter like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver (Class II Only) # 80303 with a 2-inch folding option. However, it is important to note that using any kind of hitch adapter will decrease your maximum weight capacity on the hitch by 50%.
With that being said, for a folding 2-inch cargo carrier, I recommend the 20x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # C18151. The Curt Cargo carrier has about a 5-pound lighter weight difference than some of the other folding hitches available. This will allow you to use the full available weight capacity of the hitch receiver. You can also purchase the Curt Stretchable Cargo Net - 43" Long x 24" Wide # C18202 to make sure that your cargo is secure during transport.
