Question:

If 80303 adapter works on class 2 receiver why wont it work on class 1 ?

The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # 80303, has a longer shank on it so that it can not be installed in a lower capacity Class I hitch. Class I hitches have a stop inside the receiver to keep higher capacity Class II accessories from being installed in them, so they are not overloaded.

The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # HTAD, is designed for use in both a 1-1/4 inch Class I and Class II hitch so it may work for your application. We have a video of this item for you to review.

You should keep in mind that the tongue weight capacity of the lowest rated item in your towing setup, whether it is the vehicle or hitch, will be reduced by 50 percent with use of an adapter.
