The stacked-plate heat exchanger included is the most effective type of oil cooler, primarily because of its increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place, resulting in ultimate efficiency.

The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

Save your money. Two big problems. First, the sandwich plate adapter continues to work loose causeing an oil leak. I've removed the filter and retourqed to Derale specs a couple of times and it eash time after a couple of days it starts to leak again. Derale tech support was not at all helpful, they said, hmmmm, maybe tighen it a litte more, which I did, and it didn't help. Second issue is this cooler is very small, I installed it on a Ram 1500 5.7l and it made no noticable difference in the engine oil tempure when towing. I considered buying a larger cooler core and asked Derale tech support for some sizing guidance and their best response was put as big a one as will fit. Lot of science going on there. Couldn't give me any information regarding input and output temps vs flow, sizeing guidelines by displacement, nothing, no data of any kind seemed available. I'll make one more attempt to reseal, retighten, try a new o-ring etc. It doesn't work it's coming off and going in the trash. Overall the kit is sized for a very, very small application, maybe your riding lawn mower, that should be indicated. On a full size 1/2ton pickup this does next to nothing for your oil temp. Unfortunately tech support from Derale was no help whatsoever and showed not interest in helping trouble shoot or solve the problem. Very disappointing, I'd look else where.

I bought this engine oil cooler so I could pull my 21 foot boat with my 2016 Ford Explorer. I am very pleased with how it works. It was easy to install even with having to remove the bumper cover so I could attach it to the front of the radiator. I would buy another one if I ever needed to. I would also buy from etrailer again, they have great prices and products.

Installed the Derale engine oil cooler today. Excellent kit installed without any problems. Parts were very complete. I am pleased with the proiduct.

sandwich plate is poor quality, o-ring doesnt seal well. had to buy another companies sandwich plate to stop the leak.

I am extremely disappointed in this product. Installation has been a nightmare, even being someone that has automotive experience.
From's recommendations to other customers I purchased this oil cooler for my 2010 Dodge Journey.
Unless you have access to some way to make a custom mounting bracket mounting is impossible. This CANNOT be mounted using the supplied method due to the stock cooling fan mounting shroud.
After making my own mounting brackets from aluminum this cooler has done nothing but leak.
It uses adapters, attached to adapters to make the connections to the tank, they leak.
To attach the lines to the sandwich plate the instruct you to use teflon tape, or a similar sealant. With the temperatures and pressures involved keeping this from leaking took several attempts, not to mention oil sprayed all over the underside of my vehicle, including my brakes, and the front of my brand new trailer.
Overall a very, very disappointing experience with this product.

Really happy with this kit

Very fast service. Hose length was spot on. Will be towing this next week and will see the difference from before.

Great product

  • Engine Oil Cooler for a 2018 Ford Explorer with 3.5 Liter Engine
I looked up the oil filter thread design of your 2018 Ford Explorer with a 3.5 liter engine and since it uses the M22 x 1.5 thread spec you'd want the # D15605 that you referenced as this comes with that size fitting.

  • Efficient Engine Oil Cooler on 2014 Ram 1500 5.7L
A stacked plate cooler is going to be the most efficient cooler and they're usually smaller giving you more options on installation. In addition, a cooler that includes a fan, like # D15660, can be installed anywhere in the engine compartment since it provides its own air flow. For another option that does not include a fan, # D15605 is our most popular stacked-plate cooler. It will need to installed in a location that provides the most amount of airflow possible. • Best Engine Oil Cooler Recommendationfor 2013 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Liter Engine
The oil cooler I would recommend for your 2013 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 liter that is confirmed to fit your oil filter would be the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit # D15605. Your oil filter has M22x1.5 threads and an outside diameter of 3 inches which is compatible with this kit. This is a stacked plate cooler design which is the most efficient style of oil cooler around so it should work very well for you. I attached an FAQ article on engine oil coolers for you to check out as well.

  • What Is the Difference Between the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit D15602 and D15605
The difference between the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit part # D15602 and part # D15605 is that the former comes with a 2-3/4" o-ring and the latter comes with both a 2-3/4" o-ring and a 3-1/2" o-ring. These o-rings are used to attach the sandwich adapter to the engine block (see photo). The 3-1/2" o-ring is only needed for 1963-2007 GM small block & big block V8 engines.

  • Engine Oil Cooler Recommendation for a 2008 Toyota Sienna
Oil coolers are not vehicle specific so you can mount anyone that will fit in the space available in the engine compartment. It looks like the 2008 Toyota Sienna could have either a 2-1/2 inch diameter or 2-3/4 inch diameter o-ring and it has 3/4-16 threads for the oil filter. For this set up I recommend Oil Cooler # D15451. • Installing Oil Cooler in 2004 Ford Escape to Maximize Towing Capacity
I did some online research, and from what I read, it seems that the 2004 Escape will already have a transmission cooler if it's equipped with an automatic transmission. I saw several references that stated the Ford 'Tow Package' for that vehicle included the hitch, trailer wiring and an oil cooler. As a first step, I'd confirm that your Escape has the tranny cooler. Look for a smaller heat exchanger (radiator) mounted directly behind the front grille of the vehicle, that's probably about...

  • Important Temperatures to Monitor When Towing and How to Lower the Temperatures If Needed
The key temperatures to monitor when towing are the transmission fluid, engine oil and coolant temperatures. Each of these fluids will have different ranges that you will want to stay within. For transmission fluid, the ideal operating temperature is between 160 and 200 degrees. If you find that you are running over 200 degrees, I would recommend installing a supplemental transmission cooler, like part # D13504, if you do not already have one. I also recommend using the Ford radiator...
