The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

The cooler used in this system is a highly efficient, radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger. In this system, finned chambers provide increased surface area for fluids to spread out while also continuously agitating them, resulting in superior heat transfer with minimum pressure drop.

Great product quality, but the reason for the four stars and not five is because the hose barbs were miss packaged. I received four 3/8 NPT hose barbs but the two needed for the cooler are 1/2 NPT...a trip to Home Depot for the correct ones and $9.00 later was back in business. 400824

Comments

The oil lines began seeping on a long trip coating the radiator with oil. Had to add multiple hose clamps to get it stopped. When I got back home, I replaced the fittings and oil lines with JIC connections and hydraulic hoses [about $100] Problem solved forever. Still a nice package just better now with a quality cooler and adapter.

Ask the Experts about this Derale Engine Oil Coolers

  • Recommended Engine Oil Cooler for 2006 Ford F150 with 5.4L Motor
  • Engine oil coolers are not vehicle-specific, but the Derale # D15405 Engine Oil Cooler Kit you referenced, part # D15405 would be compatible with the 22 mm x 1.5 mm filter landing and 2-3/4 filter o-ring diameter used by your 5.4L engine. The 9-7/8 tall by 9-1/4 wide by 1-1/4 thick cooler is very efficient and would be an excellent choice for you, assuming you have the proper space for the cooler directly behind the grille in front of the radiator. You will need to ensure that the 1-3/4...

  • Recommended Components for 2002 Ford Escape Towing
  • The factory tow package included the trailer hitch, wiring harness although not fully connected, and engine oil cooler. All automatic Escape models have a transmission cooler as well. If you want to add a piece by piece towing ability, I recommend starting with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame 2" trailer hitch # 75118. Then add the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118343 which plugs into your factory wiring connections behind your tail lights. You will also...

  • I did some checking and it looks like the oil filter threads on your 2013 Ford Explorer with a 3.5 liter engine are M22x1.5 mm, so you are going to need an oil cooler that is compatible with this. I would recommend you get the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit part # D15602. This kit comes with a compatible oil filter sandwich adapter so that it will work for you. This cooler is a stacked plate cooler, which of all the different styles of coolers this is the most efficient. Here...

  • There are a few items I would recommend so that you can tow safely with your 2011 Ford Explorer. First let's start with a hitch. For that the Draw Tite Hitch part # 76034 would be an excellent choice. I attached an install video for you to check out. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. • Best Engine Oil Cooler for 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Liter
  • Both the Derale # D15405 and # D15602 are great options for your 2015 Ram 1500. Since engine oil coolers are not vehicle specific, either cooler will work well for you. The # D15602 is a stacked-plate design which generally cools faster and more efficiently, which is why it's able to be so much smaller. In terms of efficiency, the stacked-plate design is the best at cooling the engine oil. This oil cooler measures 13 inches wide by 4-9/16 inches tall by 2 inches deep. Since it's smaller...

  • Does Installing an Engine Oil Cooler and Remote Oil Filter Require Adding More Oil
  • You will need to add oil to compensate for the extra capacity of an oil cooler and filter on your 1994 Chevy K1500. These components will retain some oil when the engine is not running, much like your current oil filter, but it will not be to their full capacity. The remote oil filter can be mounted anywhere in the engine compartment.

  • Is There Risk of Oil Lines from Derale Oil Cooler # D15405 Blowing Out From Oil Pressure
  • Reinforced rubber oil lines and steel ring clamps are supplied with most oil coolers. This type of hardware is more than adequate for such applications. Even a high-volume oil pump will not even begin to approach the burst point for such hoses, which are rated at 300 psi. Keep in mind that as the oil cooler reduces your oil (and engine) temperature the thermal stress on all oil lines (and coolant hoses) will be reduced to some degree. The reduction in oil temperature, which can be as...

  • Oil Cooler for 1.9L Volkswagen Diesel Engine

Gas engines have a typical oil temp of 200 - 250 degrees F, while diesel engine temps can reach as much as 600 degrees (!) within the cylinders. Your 1.9L Volkswagen diesel can be fitted with an oil cooler, according to my contact at Derale, as long as its oil pump is in good shape. • Recommended Transmission/Oil Cooler for 2006 Ford F150 w/ 5.4L Engine
  • A combination oil/transmission cooler isn't a vehicle specific item. The best place to install a combo cooler is directly behind the grille in front of the radiator/AC compressor. You'll need to choose a cooler that will fit in the available space. I'd recommend the # D15902 kit which has a condenser that measures 17 x 12-1/2.
