The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

The cooler used in this system is a highly efficient, radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger. In this system, finned chambers provide increased surface area for fluids to spread out while also continuously agitating them, resulting in superior heat transfer with minimum pressure drop.

I put this in my 1981 Chevy C10. Toughest part was finding an oil filter that worked with the adapter but I did find one that worked just fine. I was concerned that my oil would be getting hot and I want to make my engine last a good long while so this was just a must. I can say after a long drive the oil entering the cooler is barely warm and the oil on exit is a little cooler than air temperature. This works perfectly and was not a problem to mount! 635897

The oil cooler works great, but you will need to order more hose because the amount given is not enough, you cannot find it at ANY auto parts store so order it the first time 281601

Great product quality, but the reason for the four stars and not five is because the hose barbs were miss packaged. I received four 3/8 NPT hose barbs but the two needed for the cooler are 1/2 NPT...a trip to Home Depot for the correct ones and $9.00 later was back in business. 400824

Comments

The oil lines began seeping on a long trip coating the radiator with oil. Had to add multiple hose clamps to get it stopped. When I got back home, I replaced the fittings and oil lines with JIC connections and hydraulic hoses [about $100] Problem solved forever. Still a nice package just better now with a quality cooler and adapter.

  • Recommended Transmission And Oil Cooler For 2015 Toyota Tacoma
  • The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient # D13503 is a great choice for your 2015 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 with 4.0L V6 and the plate-fin is a good way to go. • Recommended Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler for 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
  • A Transmission Cooler like the Derale # D13504 referenced in your question will work to cool the transmission fluid in your 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. Doing this will help to extend the life of your transmission, as the vast majority of transmission failures are due to overheating. The unit is 11 inches wide x 12 inches tall x 7/8 inches deep, so you will just want to make sure you have enough space under the hood for installation. • Recommended Cooler For A 1999 Jeep Cherokee
  • We currently sell two types of coolers for your 1999 Jeep Cherokee. You can either purchase an engine oil or transmission cooler for your Jeep. I recommend you choose the largest cooler you have space for. Generally speaking, the best place to install an aftermarket cooler is in front of the radiator/condenser behind the grill. For an engine oil cooler, I recommend the Derale Plate-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Adjustable Sandwich Adapter part # D15405. The dimensions of this cooler are...

  • Best Engine Oil Cooler for 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Liter
  • Both the Derale # D15405 and # D15602 are great options for your 2015 Ram 1500. Since engine oil coolers are not vehicle specific, either cooler will work well for you. The # D15602 is a stacked-plate design which generally cools faster and more efficiently, which is why it's able to be so much smaller. In terms of efficiency, the stacked-plate design is the best at cooling the engine oil. This oil cooler measures 13 inches wide by 4-9/16 inches tall by 2 inches deep. Since it's smaller...

  • This Derale Plate-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit # D15451 that you referenced will lower the engine oil temperatures of your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. It is hard to say exactly how the temperature will decrease, but the more airflow the cooler will see the more the temperature will drop. If it would not drop to 180 degrees it would get pretty close. This # D15451 that you referenced does not have a thermostatic bypass. The adapter itself can easily manage that amount of pressure. He went on to state that any time a component like this is added to a system there will be some flow loss and oil pressure lost but with this system, it will be a minute loss...

Your 1.9L Volkswagen diesel can be fitted with an oil cooler, according to my contact at Derale, as long as its oil pump is in good shape. With that being said, it is unlikely that you would need an oil cooler if you are within the towing capacity.
