Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. The result is longer-lasting oil and a better-functioning engine.

The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

Happy to find a system with the adapter. Mounted to my 4runner very easily. Not much confidence in the plastic mounting method will make something else. 41108

  • How to Install a Derale Engine Oil Cooler, Part # D15505, in a 1970 to 1974 Hotrod
  • Engine oil coolers are not brand- or model-specific; you can install an oil cooler as large as the space you have available to mount one, which is generally in front of the radiator and/or air-conditioning condenser on vehicles so equipped. With coolers, larger is better. This particular kit is intended for vehicles with an engine block oil filter landing between 2-3/4 inches and 3-1/2 inches. If your vehicle oil filter landing falls outside this range you will need to select an alternate...

  • Reducing Engine Oil Temperature Using Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit # 15505
  • Typically a system like the Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit, # D15505, is used on vehicles where high oil temperatures are a concern, like one that is towing during the summer months. The thermostatic adapter will allow oil that is cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the cooler. The temperature of the oil when it entered the cooler will vary depending on the outside temperatures, driving conditions, how the system is set up, etc. Allowing the oil to flow through the tubes cools...

  • Adding an Engine Oil Cooler and a Power Steering Cooler to a 2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4.0L V6
  • Thanks for asking about a Power Steering Cooler and Engine Oil cooler for your 2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. Adding two more coolers is not going to present a cooling issue for your engine/radiator. The coolers allow air to flow through them and will not transfer enough heat to the air going through them to effect the cooling performance of the vehicle's radiator. Your engine oil filter has 3/4-16 threads. So you can determine the correct threads to use from the recommended kits below,...

  • Oil Cooler for Use on a Motorcycle
  • Engine oil gets much hotter than power steering fluid so a power steering cooler such as # D13310 would not do much of anything to cool the oil on a motorcycle. Additional parts would also be needed so I do not recommend it. For an oil cooler something such as # D15505 would work much better and actually cool the oil.

  • Removing Oil Cooler Sandwich Adapter
  • The sleeve nut and the sandwich adapter are actually two separate pieces. It is possible that the adapter is loose enough to turn, but the nut is staying in place. Try using some channel lock pliers (put a rag around adapter so you do not damage it) to hold the adapter stationary while you loosen the sleeve nut. This should allow the whole thing to come off for you.
