Installation on 2014 and 2015 Toyota Highlander

2014-15 Toyota Highlander connection points

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection points for the 4-way tow harness and the ModuLite (converter) are located underneath the spare tire compartment. Once you've plugged in the ModuLite, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Installation on 2013 and Earlier Toyota Highlander

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way tow harness is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. The ModuLite plugs into the factory wiring harness beneath your dash, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the ModuLite, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

  • Best Trailer Hitch Receiver For Towing With 2018 Toyota Highlander
Hey Kevin, That's a good question as there's a number of different choices, but if it were my 2018 Toyota Highlander and I was looking to tow a trailer, the trailer hitch I'd put on is definitely the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13200. Reason why is this is the most robust hitch you can get for your Highlander, coming in with a 6,000 lb towing capacity and 900 lb tongue weight capacity, so it can easily handle whatever you're looking to haul with your Highlander. Apart from that, I...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Toyota Highlander
For your 2017 Toyota Highlander the best hitch option is the Draw Tite # DT65MR as it has the best capacity and has a great price. Hitch installs are pretty basic for qualified mechanics. The best advice I can give would be to find a local mechanic to you with a good reputation and let them install it. I attached an install video as well for you to check out to see if you might be able to tackle it yourself.

  • Parts Needed to Add Brake Controller to 2010 Toyota Highlander
To add a brake controller to your 2010 Highlander you will need a 4-way, 7-way upgrade kit, and the brake controller itself. I recommend the following: -T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449 (If you do not have the factory tow package) -Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # 56042 (If you have factory tow package) -Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 -Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR -Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controller...

  • Troubleshooting Installation of Tow Ready Wiring Harness on 2016 Toyota Highlander
The Curt Wiring Harness # C56217 does have an external ground for the converter box harness that would need to be grounded to the vehicle's sheet metal. However, when I checked your order, you ordered the Tow Ready Wiring Harness # 118449 and this wiring harness does not have a ground wire that needs to be grounded separately. To begin troubleshooting, I recommend using a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to test the 4-Way connector of the # 118449 harness. I've attached a video showing how...

  • Trailer Lights Not Working After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness in a 2013 Toyota Highlander
There are 2 fuses associated with wiring harness # 118449 for your 2013 Toyota Highlander. There should be a 10 amp towing fuse that will need to be installed in the fuse panel. There is also a 10 amp fuse for power to the converter box that is in line with the wiring. If either fuse is missing or blown then it will not work. The 30 amp "towing" fuse will also need to be present and not blown for the harness to work. Most Highlanders already have it installed but it is not out of the question...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2012 Toyota Highlander with Factory Towing Prep Package
If your 2012 Toyota Highlander came with the factory towing package then it should already have a trailer connector. But if there isn't one you can use either a hardwire harness such as # C59236 or the plug in style # 118449. The plug in style is much easier to install. I have linked its instructions and a video showing installation on a 2012 Highlander. I have also included a link to the hitches available for your Highlander if you have not decided on one. The most popular is Curt hitch...

I called my contact at Yakima and they informed me that they currently do not make nor stock replacement parts for the Rhode Gear 4 Bike Hitch Shuttle anymore. However, I suggest trying the Replacement Rubber Straps for Yakima BedRoc and Older Big Horn Models part # Y8820103 as these are very similar to your current support straps and according to the Yakima representative, should work for you. • Heavy Duty Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Highlander with Full Size Spare
I looked up the online version of your owner's manual, which states that a 2014 Toyota Highlander without a tow package and with a V6 engine, is limited to a maximum allowable gross trailer weight of 2,000 lbs. The tongue weight (TW) should not exceed 9-10 percent of this, so around 200 lbs. Vehicles with a 2.7L L4 engine are limited to 1,500 lbs instead. Class III and IV trailer hitches both feature a 2 inch receiver, however class IV hitches are categorized this way because of their...

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13394 will fit with a full size spare tire stowed under vehicle unless the spare is on an aluminum rim, which is too wide. If you're concerned about the fit of the hitch with your spare tire I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT84MR which doesn't have this restriction. The Draw-Tite is also a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has the same gross towing weight of 5,000 lbs and max tongue weight of 500 lbs. It also comes with...

I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you'd then want the # 118449 which is also a confirmed fit and our most reliable option. Your pictures did not make it through so please email them to me by responding to this message. In the meantime the easiest way to determine if a vehicle has the factory tow package is to have the dealer run the VIN in their system and they should be able to tell you how the vehicle is equipped. We don't offer anything purpose-built to install taillights on a hitch mounted bike rack, but you could effectively modify an existing system very easily. If your bike rack is steel, you could simply use a magnetic mount tow light like part # RM-2120. There would be some extra wire you'd need to bundle up and secure with zip ties, but the installation would be very simple. Another option would involve using a light kit designed for a cargo carrier. I'd recommend the # 98174LED kit and...

  • Installing 7-way Blade Trailer Connector on 2013 Toyota Highlander
To wire your 2013 Highlander with a 7-way and 4 pole connector, you'd first need a functional 4-pole trailer connector. If your Highlander doesn't already have one, you can install it using part # 118449. With the 4-pole in place, there's two different alternatives, depending on if your trailer with the 7-way has brakes. If it does NOT, you can use the Hopkins # 37185 (same as the 47185 you mentioned). The 37185 would plug directly into the 4-pole, with 4 remaining wires. The white wire...

I am happy to help you determine if your 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has a tow package or not. I understand that the photo you are referring to can be hard to interpret. The easiest way to determine this is to visually inspect your vehicle on your own. I did some research on the towing capacities of the 2018 Toyota Highlander and it looks like only the LE model with the 2.7 liter engine is limited to 1,500 lbs of trailer weight whereas the other models with the larger 3.5 liter engine can tow up to 5,000 lbs regardless of if it came with the factory hitch or not. If it's a hybrid the capacity is 3,500 lbs. So the first thing you'd need is a hitch like the etrailer part # e98844 which has a 5,000 lb towing capacity. Then for trailer...

  • Is Trailer Wiring Included With A Trailer Hitch For A 2017 Toyota Highlander SE
Hi Nhia, The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98844 is not going to come with trailer wiring so you will need to purchase it separately. For your 2017 Highlander SE I recommend the Curt # 56042 if you have the factory tow package; for non-tow package models you'll need the Tekonsha # 118449 instead. If you plan on towing a trailer with electric brakes then you'll need to go with the Tekonsha # 22119 instead for a 7-way and would also need a brake controller.
