Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's junction box, which is located in your rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side trim panel in the spare tire compartment. You will need to remove the cargo nets, floor hatch, and some interior paneling to access this box. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the included fuses into your junction box as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 7-way connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Review of Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118289

Today we're going to take a look at the T-One vehicle wiring harness with the 7-way trailer connector. Now this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2014 and newer Acura MDX vehicles. And on a custom-fit part like this, I like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year, model vehicle, and it'll show you if this'll work for your application. Now this harness provides this 7-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. It is compatible with 4-pole, 5-pole, and 6-pole adapters, so we do sell separate on our website. And this harness does connect very quickly and easily.

There's no cutting or splicing of wires.Basically what you do is you . this connector here will plug into your vehicle's junction box which is located in your rear cargo area behind the driver's side trim panel in the spare tire compartment. And you have this white wire. This you want to ground to a good, clean ground. Plug these connectors into your back of your 7-way.

And then they include four fuses that you put into your fuse box to make your system operational. Now it does include this ModuLite. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module, so it does connect directly to the battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. The wiring in this harness is a 16-gauge bonded wire. And as I mentioned, it does include these four mini-fuses, two 7.5-amp fuses and two 20-amp fuses that they'll show you in the instructions where to connect them in your fuse box.A few specs on this.

The maximum amperage on the stop-and-turn light circuit is 4.2 amps per circuit, tail lights is 12 amps per circuit, and again, it comes with a nice set of detailed instructions with pictures on how to connect this. But again, basically what you'll do is go to the rear of your vehicle. In the rear cargo area and in the spare tire compartment you'll see the junction box where this'll plug into. Once that's plugged in, you'll have your white wire with this eyelet on it. Connect that to a good, clean ground if there's one nearby. If not, they include this grounding screw that you can make your clean ground. And then what you want to do is this ModuLite box is a little heavy.

You don't want that bouncing around. They do give you this piece of double-face tape that you can put on there. Attach that to a good, flat surface so it doesn't move around. And then you'll just run this wiring out towards the back. And in the instructions it says there's a grommet in your trunk that you can actually remove. Run that wiring through there back to the rear bumper. Plug these into the back of the 7-way. You can see it has this little connector here that you can just pop off. And then make your plug-ins right there. Make sure you get the connect color wire to the correct function. Once that's all plugged in, then you can put that to the back. Now it does not come with a mounting bracket. We do require a mounting bracket. You should install that and have this bolt to the mounting bracket. We do sell those items separately on our website. And usually on this product page, there is a mounting bracket listed as a related product.Once that's all connected, then you have these extra cable ties that they give you. Those you can wrap to keep the wire from hanging down. You can use those extra cable ties to secure it.But that should do it for the review on the T-One vehicle wiring harness with the 7-way trailer connector.

Trailer hitch and wire harness works and fit great. The bracket that is supposed to hold the plug is not even close to lining up with the holes on the plug. 730245

As near to plug and play as you can get. The biggest issue is threading the cable through the vehicle to get it to the hitch. Two pairs of hands would make this process much easier. All connections were correct. Instructions are very clear. 680184

Ask the Experts about this Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Is a Relay Required for a Wiring Harness on a 2020 Acura MDX
While you are correct that a wide variety of trailer wiring harnesses do require the installation of a relay, this is not the case for your 2020 Acura MDX. I recommend going with one of our Tekonsha wiring kits because we have found that their converter boxes tend to be the most reliable. For a 4-Way plug you need the T-One # 118628 but for a 7-Way plug you need the T-One # 118289 for a 7-Way plug. It is worth noting that even though you don't install any relays, you do need to install...
