Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located at the rear of your vehicle, slightly toward the driver's side.

Once installation is complete, the connectors will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket is included to keep the connectors secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole and 4-pole connectors - to help prevent corrosion.

Vehicle Wiring

Note:Refer to the diagram above to determine if this harness will fit your application. The plugs on your vehicle must have 3 terminals on one side and 4 on the other. If your vehicle has 2 terminals on one side and 5 on the other, you will need wiring harness HM11143395 instead.

After damaging my existing 7-way connector on my 2006 Tundra I decided to take on the task of replacing myself. After some reviews I chose the Hopkins 7-way with 4-way connector. Super easy install as it was just plug and go. One needs to make sure of your current wiring especially on the 3 wires (12-v, electric brake, backup). One minor inconvenience was that I had to drill out the holes in the bracket which connects to the bumper. Not a big deal. Excellent product and look and the added 4-way is a nice bonus. Will definitely recommend the product and etrailer.

My 2006 Tundra’s factory harness kicked the bucket so this seemed like a great alternative. Installation was the exact reverse of removal of the OEM harness. I did have to drill out the mounting holes a bit to match the original bolts on the truck, but that only took a couple minutes. The separate 4-pin is very convenient and keeps me from needing an adapter. It’s not quite the factory look, but still very neat and clean (maybe it’s just because the rest of the truck isn’t as new and shiny anymore). Overall I’m very happy with the connector!

Comments
Connector is still working perfectly. I trailer about every two weeks and just hit it with some grease now and again to keep the connection clean.

My original connector was damaged. I was looking for a replacement at a good price - Toyota wants $300 for this part. I love that etrailer was a good price, but especially like how they have pictures that are different than the stock photos other online retailers use. I was able to see that the bracket was included in this - no need to buy anything else. The price here was fantastic, not only did it beat [the other online retailers], but it was one of the least expensive around. After placing my product I was notified quickly that it shipped - and I even got tracking information. My recent purchases online seem to think that extra step isn't necessary - and only give me info if I asked for it. The product installation was easy. Several reviewers said I'd need to make the holes in the brackets larger. Yes, I needed to. I just got my drill out and used a slightly larger diameter bit to widen the holes. I then used the OEM holes and bolts. It fits well, plugged in just fine. It looks solid and has weather resistant covers for the two plugs. It's also super that both plug types are included - I no longer need that bulky 4->7 wire plug adapter. Great product, easy installation, great price, perfect shipping! Thank you etrailer!

The trailer harness is working very well. I just used it last month for towing a car home. I like the fact that it’s a single connection and stays closed and out of the weather. I appreciate you following up with me. I’m glad I did business with you.

This is a perfect replacement for the stock Toyota 2006 Tundra, it is higher quality than the original, and at a fraction of Toyota's price. Replacing the old part was trivial. Etrailer's service was exceptional: it was shipped within hours, I received tracking information promptly, and the shipping cost was very modest.

I unplugged the broken plug-in trailer part from my truck and attached the new part that I bought from your company. It actually fit in the same holes which I bolted back on. Plugged it back in to my truck, hooked up my horse trailer and all my lights worked!!!! I didn’t replace the male end on the horse trailer and it all matched up perfectly. Very easy to install

Mounted on my 2003 tundra as a direct replacement for the original receptacle. plugs snap in to the harness as good as they would be expected. The bracket has drill holes in the correct place, just needed to be drilled out to fit the oem bolts. It comes with smaller screws to replace the bolt hardware, if your threads are stripped out. took me 30 minutes to install, I reused the old plastic snap on pieces. If I didn't you could do the job in 10 minutes.

2011 Toyota 4Runner

I purchased this for a 2011 Toyota 4Runner with towing package. The original trailer connecter worked fine but you had to crawl up under the vehicle to plug in the trailer. I removed the original connecter and plugged in the new one and turned on the ignition, I got no current to any of the pins on the replacement. I verified the plugs were firmly seated by squeezing the connecters together with channel lock pliers and noted that the locking tabs on both connecters were fully engaged. Still no current to any pins. I verified my test light was connected to a known good ground by testing it on the 12v power pin in the vehicle wiring harness and plugged the new connecter in yet again. Still no power to any pins and my helper (my wife) was getting tired of pushing the brake and applying the turn signals so I replaced the original connecter and of course all the pins lit up the test light.

2006 Toyota Tundra

Bought this to replace a damaged 7 pin connector and to have a 4 pin attached. No more digging in my tool box looking for the adapter. So, a few things. One, the holes that mount the bracket to the frame are both a little too small to reuse the factory hardware (no way for me to get inside frame to use hardware provided) plus the frame had nut plates installed and slightly too narrow to correctly line up with the nut plates installed in the frame. No big deal (at least not to me), I used a 17/64 drill bit to enlarge the holes and longate the hole to the right (looking aft from underneath the truck). Would it have been nice to not have to modify and install? Yes, but it was no big deal to me to drill out the holes as needed for my truck. Bolted right up after modifications. Not worthy to deduct a star in my opinion. I use tread locker on all my hardware for added security. Wiring harness plugged right up, no issues there. Used zip ties to secure to frame. Haven't had a chance to test it yet as I just got it today and installed it. However, it looks and feels tougher than the factory one that I replaced. I'm sure it'll do what I need and then some. I will buy again if need be.

2003 Toyota Tundra

The original 7-way wiring harness on my 2003 Tundra broke and after getting a $230 quote from Toyota for a new one; I found the HM43385 here for under $30. The kit was a direct fit and could not have been easier to install. I think the longest part of the installation was getting the factory connections loose (which wasn't hard at all). I now have a 7-way and 4-way connection that looks better then the factory harness. Even if your harness is OK, I'd recommend buying and installing this unit rather then using the 7-way blade to 4-way Flat adapters you may need. Great product, great service (including the very helpful online video product reviews) from etrailer.com and the shipping was quick!

Needed to exchange a 7-way wiring harness that didn’t match my 2005 Tundra factory installed setup. Hopkins made the one that matched my setup. Toyota used two different setups. Connectors fit perfectly into the factory harness. However I needed to drill the Mounting bracket holes to fit the factory bolts. The mounting bracket could be improved to Provide greater stability and versatility for Various models. The bracket should be of thicker material While this product was very good to replace my factory connector, clearly improvements can be applied. Make a better mounting bracket for all your connectors. And wider to allow elongation of one hole. This will allow for differences in monting bolt Hole spacing. Also the holes for mounting Bracket should be 1mm larger to make it a true factory fit.

  • Replacement Hopkins 7 and 4-Way for 2006 Toyota Tundra
There isn't a replacement housing for the # HM43385 that you have so you'll have to replace the entire thing since yours has been damaged. It's easier than you'd think to break them while backing up for sure since they typically hang down lower than the bumper. For a backup camera you can use the purple wire of this adapter as that carries the reverse light circuit.

Yes, you are correct that you can snip off the connectors of the Hopkins # HM43385 and hardwire them to the wiring on your 2010 Toyota Tacoma with factory 7-way connector.
