Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4 Pole Trailer Connector

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2003 to 2006 Toyota Tundra trucks. This part will give you the ability to tow trailers with the different style trailer connectors. Your vehicle must have the factory 7-way in order for this harness to fit. This'll plug right into the connectors that are on your vehicle. If you notice, the 7-way is in a nice, durable, hard plastic shelf for protection.

This does provide the 7-way connector, has a spring-loaded cap with the seal on it to keep any dirt or grime from getting into the connectors, and it also has this 4-way, which has a nice dust cover over it also to protect the terminals when you're not using it.All this is included that's shown on the table. The mounting bracket and the hardware's all included to install this to your vehicle, and a nice set of detailed instructions. But, basically, all you have to do is take your mounting bracket, slide the cords through there, bring that up. You'll notice the four holes will line up just like that, and then you'll have two at the top that you're going to attach to your vehicle, but also it's nice, you notice there's a cut-out there, and it's made specifically for the 4-way to stick right in there. You just slide your 4-way in there and that'll be at the back of your vehicle. You have access to the 7-way and then the 4-way right over here. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector..

Shipped fast and was exactly as represented. Easy to Install. Why pay the dealer's outrageous price of over $185 when you can get this instead for a 1/4 of the price. Thanks etrailer.com !

2003 Toyota Tundra

Excellent service. The product arrived quickly and is a better product than the Toyota one. My trailer lights are working for the first time in 3 years! Would definitely do business again.

by:
2004 Toyota 4Runner

As always, e-trailer products were delivered super fast, customer service was top notch and the product itself was great quality - even better than factory part with the addition of the standard 4-way connector - so why the poor rating????

Upon eager anticipation of the install, I find my factory 3 way connector piece has a male end, while the replacement connector also has a male end - this won't work. I would suggest you remove your factory connector to double check so you don't fall victim to this as I did. I was looking to replace a 2004 4Runner Sport Edition.

by:
2006 Toyota Tundra

The product was exactly what I needed. The only problem I had was bolting the mount back onto the frame of my truck. The hole spacing in the mount did not match the original spacing by about .25" so I had to drill the mounting holes larger to match my bolt holes.

Here's a first, this "RARE" 1- The young man that answered the phone "TITUS T" actually knew the answers to help me, and was right!. (spoke english)

2-The part came on time as promissed and I recieved e-mail notifications the entire time as to the shipment status.

3- When the part arrived it was O.E.M. as promissed and 170.00 dollars cheaper (no kidding) than the Toyota dealership.

4- The part actually plugged right in as promissed!!!

I think I found somebody that I will conduct business with again, I am not a big fan of internet purchases because of bad return policies etc. But if they get it right the first time like these guys who needs a return policy?

I give them two thumbs up!!

First, let me say, I don't usually write reviews... However, this product rocks. My used Tundra had a broken multi-plug and I was thinking about heading out to a junkyard to get a replacement as Toyota wanted +$150.00 for a new part. I found etrailer online and ordered it. Other than having to drill out the two holes in the bracket that mounts to the bottom of the bumper, the install was flawless and easy (less than 10 minutes). I have already told two friends about etrailer, and I will be shopping here again if/when I need additional trailer accessories.

by:
2006 Toyota Tundra

Solid product. Harness connectors were spot on. I replaced a factory 7 pin connector. There are two areas for improvement. First, the bracket mounting holes were slightly smaller than stock and had to be drilled out a little. Also, the spacing was off about a 1/16", but the drilling took care of that. 2nd, the harness is about 3 to 4 inches shorter than stock, so the original wire loom holding strap positions could not be used. Otherwise, great connector. The 4 pin flat connector is a great addition!

by:

George J, Nathan S, Katie The replacement multi-plug 7-way and 4-pole trailer connector was just as I excepted.

I will always use etrailer for any trailering needs.

Good quick service.

I have a 2004 Toy Tundra 4.7 Quad cab with factory installed tow kit. Want to replace light harness kit as trailer lights are not functioning and man at trailer shop with a tester said no power is coming out of trailer plug on truck to boat wiring.

If your Tundra has the factory 7-Way connector then this would work. It would be worth the time to check the fuse blocks and see if any of the towing fuses are blown. Also, check the connections on the harness and make sure they are clean and clear. If fuses are blown or connectors are dirty or corroded, a new harness may not help.

Package arrived promptly - as expected - all in good shape. All hardware (screws, bolts etc.) included. I haven't had a chance to install it but am confident it will work just fine.

I was able to install it and it has worked very well.

by:

The connection came deformed and needed considerable work to make it fit the OEM truck side. Packaging was not damaged. This was a manufacturer quality issue. While I got it to eventually work, it was disappointing that it needed so much time and attention to make the connection.

by:

great product, perfect fit installed it when i received it and still using it today. no issues at all. I would recommend any one looking for this item to purchase it from Etrailer . The web site is user friendly and easy to confirm match to your vehicle. Safe travailing to all.

Lexus GX 470

Product over all is a nice unit. Turns out though there is 2 different options for the GX470 and I didn’t realize. Make sure you look to see which one is correct. This one wasn’t the correct one I needed, put in my order for the correct one after realizing. Only way to know is to get under and look at the plugs on your vehicle. This one has one female plug(4pin) and one male plug(3pin) so make sure you are ordering the correct one

2005 Toyota Tundra

I replaced the 7-way trailer connector harness with this product. I own a 2005 Tundra. The original connector was damaged when I backed into a rock I didn't see. This product is superior to the stock connector, for several reasons: [a] it also includes a 4-way connector, which increases towing flexibility, [b] overall, it is more robust than the original (in my opinion), and [c] the wire harness is better integrated into the connector, which prevents water and dust intrusion. The wiring harness is shorter than the original, but the end plugs connected [new male to existing female] without issue - although the stock wire bundle holding strap positions could not be used. In fact, based on the fit, I abandoned the holding straps altogether. Contrary to one reviewer, who questioned whether the plugs would remain connected due to the stretch, the plugs snap together. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the bracket holes are misaligned slightly and are too small for the stock bolts. By drilling these holes out with a 5/16 bit, the fit is nearly perfect. The product sheet implies the connector is an add-on [as evidenced by the included self-tapping screws], not a replacement, as advertised. Regardless, this is a quality product that installs easily and quickly for the DIY customer with basic tools. In addition, it saves a bundle of money in avoiding a purchase at a dealership ! ! ! I just checked with my Toyota dealer and they wanted just over $200, and that's with a 10% discount.

2003 Toyota Sequoia

The product was good quality. Loved seeing the install video before purchasing. The only complaint I have is the wiring harness was too short for 2003 Toyota Sequoia. I could not attach the bracket back to the metal where the oem plug was. I had to drill holes into the plastic bumper and barely bypasses the hitch bar.

I had to remove this product and reinstall the old wiring. In all fairness, it may have not worked due to the previous owner messing with the truck wiring. It didn’t work for me. However I would still recommend the product and believe it would work well on an OEM install.

by:
2003 Toyota Tundra

The product was easy to install. One minor alteration was needed. I had to enlarge both of the mounting holes ever so little. Just a few runs with a small rat tail file did the trick. It is sturdier built than the OEM. All the pigtail wiring was flawless on the product. No more trouble shooting when I switch trailers back and forth. Also, I no longer have to use an adapter when switching between 7way and 4pole wired trailers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

by:
2006 Toyota Tundra

Looks solidly made with correct connectors.
Bracket
fitted existing bracket on frame though the holes on bracket did need to be drilled out to 1/4" to accept existing bolts.
Connectors are correct but the harness is quite a bit shorter than original. The connectors do not have slot for existing cable holder so cannot mount to existing frame cable holder. Check harness not damaged when spare tire removed.
Original had the tabs [Tail lamp, left turn and stop etc.]labeled on the the cover. Would be neat if Tekonsha had a similar molding as it would apply to all its seven connector devices. However could at least add a printed card with a diagram. Takes the guess work out of circuit checking.

by:
2005 Toyota Tundra

Works well. One complaint would be that I wish it was a little longer for use with the socket tekonsha mount as my controller stays in the box of the trailer. It is a shared trailer and there is no point to buying two separate controllers.

  • Replacement 7-Way Recommendation for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma with Factory 7-Way
I have a solution for you, but it will require a little wiring and it is not the Trailer Wiring Harness part # 20137. There currently isn't a plug and play replacement 7-way available for your 2006 Toyota Tacoma so the best recommendation I can make would be to get the 7-Way Prewired Car Connector part # 20023. You will need to remove your current 7-way and bracket and cut the wires from the harness and wire them by function to the wires of the # 20024. I attached a picture that shows...
