Does Hopkins Make a 7 Way that Only Has One Connector for 2006 Toyota Tundra?

Updated 03/18/2025 | Published 03/05/2025

Question:

I have an 18 yr old Hopkins adapter on my 2006 Tundra. It has only one plug to go into the vehicles wiring. Im assuming this is probably due to the truck not having a factory tow pkg. Can you help with a part number for the adapter I need?

Hello Dan,

The only Hopkins wiring I see for the 2006 Toyota Tundra is the one you were looking at—the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way and 4-Flat Connectors # HM43385 —which, as you noticed, has two connectors.

Did you install the original wiring on the truck? It’s possible that only the connector for the trailer lights was installed if the previous owner didn't need a brake controller for their trailer. I’ve attached a picture of the connectors so you can compare them to the one on your Tundra.

If that doesn’t match, could you send me a picture of your connector? I’ll do my best to help identify it.

Let me know what you find when you inspect it further.

Hi Kate THX for your response. I'm the one that installed the plug in harness. I bought the truck new in 06 so I've done just about all the work. The photo you attached is correct...the square side is the one that plugs in. I was trying to replace the one on the truck because my trailer lights no longer function properly. They do however work if plugged into my jeep or Subaru. I hope I haven't confused you too much. Any help you might be able to provide is much appreciated. THX, DH

@Dan Hey there Dan. Could be the connector, but it is definitely worth checking the fuses first if you haven't already. You will want to double check your owners manual, but these are the fuses that I found in my research on the 2006 Toyota Tundra: Primary Fuse Locations for Towing Wiring: Underhood Fuse Box (Engine Bay) -TOWING TAIL (30A) – Controls trailer running lights. -TOW BK/UP (15A) – Powers trailer backup lights. -TOWING BRK (30A) – If you have a factory-installed brake controller wiring. -TOWING CHARGE (30A) – Supplies power to the trailer’s auxiliary or battery charge circuit. -Driver's Side Interior Fuse Box (Under Dash) -STOP (15A) – This fuse affects the trailer brake lights and a brake controller if installed. Have you been able to look in the back of the Tundra to see if the other connector is there for the # HM43385? It wouldn't hurt to use something like a Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to check if there is power going into the 7 way. If it is just the 7 way that is out, I would inspect the connector at the back of the 7 way to see if # HM40950 would work as a replacement if the wiring harness is still good. I am going to reach out to Hopkins to see if they still carry the single wire connector and get it added to the site. Please let me know how the fuses look.

@KateF Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. I checked the fuses and also plugged in a 7 blade to 4 pin adapter into the existing unit. No change. I think after almost 20 yr things tend to wear out. Please let me know if Hopkins has any old style left. If not, I guess it's the old cut and splice job which I personally am not fond of. THX again. @Dan Hey there Dan, Sorry for the delay in response but it took them quite some time to get back to me. They said the double connector is the only one they know of and requested pictures. Can you please take of the wiring and snap a picture of the one connector? You can respond to the email with the picture and I will get it. I really appreciate your time, and we will get this figured out.
