Installation on 2014 and 2015 Toyota Highlander

2014-15 Toyota Highlander connection points

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection points for the 4-way tow harness and the converter are located underneath the spare tire compartment. Once you've plugged in the converter, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Installation on 2013 and Earlier Toyota Highlander

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way tow harness is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness beneath your dash, on the driver's side. Once you've plugged in the converter, locate the "towing fuse" position in your fuse box and insert the included 10-amp fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - HM11141845

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (39 Customer Reviews)

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.

Super easy and convenient to install. After removing certain panels in truck, you literally just plug connectors together, install the fuse at front fuse box and you are good to go.

2015 Toyota Highlander

I’m loving this trailer hitch receiver. My 8-yr old some helped me do a self-install on my 2015 Toyota Highlander. The instructions on the retailer website were fantastic, and with a little patience and the right tools, we had no problem installing this ourselves - savings hundreds of dollars!

Your shipping company SUCKS!!!! Your service and product was Fantastic. I would really rethink your shipping company. Look at attached photo. My harness was soaked.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

2012 Toyota Highlander

A little disappointed...did not come with everything. It was missing a fuse, zip ties and the grease...wish the product would say that it wasn't coming with these items. Once I went and got my own fuse I got it to work.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

Not very good instructions included but not too difficult for hubby to install. [online video] was very helpful!

This wiring kit was perfect! Easy install in just minutes. If your looking for a wiring kit this is it. Plug & play and fantastic directions.

2015 Toyota Highlander

Wiring took 5 minutes to install. Only complaint is with a 2015 highlander you need to buy the “WITHOUT TRAILERING PACKAGE” option even if you have the XLE or above with tow prep package

2013 Toyota Highlander

Installed in about 25Min truly plug and play...

Toyota Highlander

The hitch and 4 flat wiring kit were great and everything went together easily, I would say it took approx. 40 minutes to install everything including the hitch and the wiring - very easy and straight forward. The videos from e-tailer were very helpful. We used the hitch on our Highlander to pull our boat to the lake this weekend. Everything worked as it should with no issues. I give it 5 stars.

Videos are great for install.

very easy to install and very good installation instructions.

Great products! The shop had everything it needed to setup my 2017 Highlander up for towing a camper trailer.

Toyota Avalon

Purchased wiring harness for my Toyota avalon. The instructions to connect and secure it for long term use were spot on. Great product and Support.

2016 Toyota Highlander

Perfect engineering, directions were excellent. Everything went exactly as expected. Nice!

2019 Toyota Highlander

2016 Toyota Highlander

2016 Toyota Highlander

Great product installation was a snap.
recommend to friend.

Great product

This product has been perfect. Easy to install and flawless in performance. I would highly recomend for your towing needs. And it looks great!

2017 Toyota Highlander

The instructions and the demo leave the wire hanging out of the trunk, show how to thread it on the side and put it in the undercarriage. Otherwise, works and pretty easy to install

Very easy to install - no issues whatso ever!

Ask the Experts about this Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Will Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM11141845 Fit 2016 Toyota Highlander
Yes, the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141845 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2016 Toyota Highlander that does not have the factory tow package. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located in the rear cargo area on the driver's side of your vehicle. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector that will connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. I have attached an installation video on...

  • 2019 Toyota Highlander Wiring Harness Installation Tips
This Hopkins wiring harness does fit your 2019 Toyota Highlander. Since the location of the factory wiring is located inside the car and not under/behind the bumper, you will likely be limited to the current location of the wiring. That being said, the hitch you are looking at # E98844 would be a good choice for your vehicle. The one suggestion I will make is that if you reference the picture attached to this question, there is a screen shot of a spot in the install video that shows a...

  • How to Determine if 2008 Toyota Highlander is Equipped with Factory Taillight Converter
Luckily, rather than trying to understand the VIN check, the easiest way to determine if your Highlander is equipped with the taillight converter is to get a quick peek at the 10-pin connector it would plug into. The connector is located under the dash, between the emergency brake pedal and the brake pedal, as shown in the provided photo. If there's nothing plugged into the connector, you'd want to use the # HM11141845, as the trailer wiring won't work correctly without a taillight converter....

No, the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141845 includes a taillight converter that will combine your separate stop and turn signals into the single-wire format used on trailers. Your Highlander does not need to have one too. The small packet included in the kit contains dielectric grease like # 11755. This grease is to be applied to all connectors in the kit at the time of installation. The grease does not conduct electricity but it...

  • Troubleshooting Hopkins 4-Way Wiring Harness on 2019 Toyota Highlander
Since you have already established that the fuse is fine and power is running to the connection for the harness there is not much else that can be done. I suggest double checking all of the connections to make sure they are secure. I would unplug each one and plug it back in to make sure they are fully seated. If that does not solve the problem, it is more than likely a bad wiring harness. If you are planning to replace it, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449...

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118449 is a fit for a 2019 Toyota Highlander and it's what I recommend. It fits all models with or without the tow package. If you do end up having the factory tow package then there would just be a section of the harness you would not use but most don't have the factory tow package so this should not matter though you would be covered either way. It's a plug-in-play install and has the most common and universal...
