Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Vehicle Wiring Harness 4 Pole Flat - HM11142265

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with four pole flat trailer connector. Now this harness has been designed to fit your 2007 to 2010 Chrysler Sebring. And on custom fit parts such as this wiring harness, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide. Just enter the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this harness will work for you, or if we have another harness that will work for you.

Now this harness is going to give you the four pole flat trailer connector at the back of your Sebring to power your trailer signal lights. This is also going to be compatible with five, six, and seven pole adapters. Those adapters are sold separately. Included is this detachable dust cap for the four pole flat connector. It's gonna cover up those connection points when this plug is not in use.

And a taillight converter is built into this wiring harness. Now because most trailers run on a two wire system where the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire, the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your Sebring so that they can run on one wire to properly activate the trailer signal lights. This will not affect how your trailer, how your tail lights rather, on your vehicle operate. Now these custom fitted T-connector plugs are going to plug into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's and passenger side taillights.

You will have to remove the taillight assemblies to access that harness. And once you have these plugged into the appropriate connectors, you will need to make a good ground connection. And the ground wire is this white wire with this ring terminal that's attached to it. It does come with that self-tapping screw, so you can get that grounded to a suitable location such as your Sebring's frame or cross member, you just wanna make sure that the surface is clean and rust free. Next, you will need to run the hot lead to your vehicle's battery.

That's this red wire that's coming out of the converter box. This red wire is going to get connected to one end of this included bundle of red wire. And as you can see, the hot lead does have a butt connector attached to it. So you're gonna connect one end of this bundle to this hot lead and then you're going to route the other end to the battery and then connect that routed end of this bundle to this wire here of our fuse holder. And once you have that connected, you will then attach this other wire to the positive post of your vehicle's battery. And inside this fuse holder, we already have a 15 amp fuse there. And then once installation is complete, your four-way connector can be stowed beneath your vehicle, near your trailer hitch receiver. If you do not already have a mounting bracket, you can check out those options here at etrailer.com. Now this does come with a little bit of dielectric, or terminal grease, for all of your electrical connections such as your four-way flat and all the connections on the vehicle end as well. That's going to help prevent corrosion caused by moisture. But if you think you're gonna need more than that and you might need more than what's included with this kit, we do sell a separate tube of it here at etrailer.com. So on your screen, I am including our item number for that grease. You can just take that item number and pop it in the search field of our website. That will take you to the grease and you can add that to your order if you so desire. I did fail to mention that these cable ties can be used to secure any slack or excess in your wiring. And also an instruction sheet is included to guide you through that installation process. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together has been helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
