No Lights On 2017 Toyota Highlander After Installing Hopkins Plug-In Wiring Harness for Factory Tow

Updated 03/28/2023 | Published 03/26/2023

Question:

I have a 2017 Highlander XLE AWD w/ the V6, which I believe has the factory towing package. I recently bought a Hopkins Wiring For Factory Tow Package - 4-pole Connector which I plugged into the 4 flat pole connector in the rear of the vehicle per the easy to follow directions. I used a Curt Led 4-way Flat Connector Tester to test the lights after installation, but it didnt light up at allbrakes, hazards, lights on, engine on/off, etc. I replaced the fuse, a 7.5A fuse labeled IG1 NO.2inch in the fuse box on the drivers side under the steering wheel in the interior, and still nothing. Any ideas?

I have personally seen this issue a lot. The good news is that it's a simple fix, you need the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # HM11141845 which has the converter harness whereas the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness part # HM11141825 you have now only has the trailer connector harness. I know what your next question is going to be as well, can you purchase just the converter harness but unfortunately this is not offered by the manufacturer outside of the kit. Therefore, you just need the other complete kit which has both harnesses.

It's a common mistake to make, the vast majority of Highlander's I see (even if equipped with the factory hitch) don't have the tow package wiring pre-installed and will require both the trailer connector harness and converter harness.
